I have absolutely zero interest in it currently.

If I end up getting a place of my own (you know because of *stuff*) then I might get one but then there's always food or heat to think about in that scenario.

Yes. I will probably get one. Shall we book something in?

I imagine the power consumption of the Wii-umote will provide adequate heating for a moderate sized house.

I'm also beginning to imagine canny missuses (missii?) cottoning on to the 'play on the supahpad' feature and the console ending up as a glorified handheld, such is the sheer volume of shit on TV.

Why so? It doesn't have to be very powerful. Less so than the first iPad.

I'm surprised that Nintendo are promoting that so highly as a feature considering not all games will support it.

You mean that I won't 'be' 'the controller' in ALL my games with a Kinect?

Well no, what I mean is that Nintendo gave that feature second billing in the advert but didn't say it was only in select games. A tad naughty no?

Oh dear.

Quote:
Nintendo's next generation games console is almost certain to sell out immediately in the UK, with retail sources claiming that only 25,000 Wii U systems will be available on day one.

A retail source connected to the matter told CVG that the group does not have enough Wii U units to fulfill pre-orders.
The 25,000 figure they provided was then put to a distribution source working at a separate retailer, who said the number was "in line with our estimates".

However, a third source at another UK retail chain said his team was expecting the UK to receive "anything between 75,000 and 100,000 units during the launch period".

"What we don't know is whether this allocation will arrive on day one or be distributed across a number of weeks," he said.

Nintendo was unavailable for comment when approached by CVG.

I'm also down for a premium so that's with Nintendoland but also need to get Mario. But other than those two there is nothing much at launch that interests me enough that I would pay full price for it.

In the post launch lineup, I'll be all over Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, might check out Rayman Legends, Warioware games are usually brilliant and I'll be looking at reviews for LEGO City Undercover.

10 minutes of Nintedoland footage:

It says it's HD, up to 1080p, but it's pretty blurry at 1080p, I think it's a not very good capture.

The F-Zero minigame is way too slow and uses waggle controls :/

Nicked off Twitter:

@KingMetalZel: Japanese commercials are selling the Wii U as a "Super Wii".

I thought it was nice as it reminded me of the SNES/NES area.

Wii-U 'day one' patch update is 5 GB and if you turn it off while its updating you might brick it

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2 ... g-consoles

Quote:
Slow install prompts consumers to reset, incapacitating machines

It has been reported that a mandatory firmware update for the Wii U requires up to 5GB of storage space, potentially leaving customers who bought an 8GB unit without enough room to install Nintendo Land. In addition, the update has been installing so slowly for some that customers have been resetting or powering down their Wii U before the process has finished, 'bricking' the console for good.

Ben Fritz, of the LA Times, tweeted a warning to consumers about unplugging or resetting during the update process, which he claims lasted over two hours.

"Warning: don't unplug your Wii U during the 2 hour plus software update or the console stops working."

Ben Fritz, LA Times, via Twitter.

Geoff Keighley, presenter of the Spike TV show GTTV, also tweeted about the update, giving the 5gb figure but reducing load times to about one hour.

"The Wii U firmware update is apparently about 5 gigs," wrote Keighley. "No wonder it takes about an hour+ to download."

Storage space on the flash memory-based Wii U is at a premium, as it is on any console without hard drive storage, so to immediately lose more than half of it to an enforced update would be a huge blow to new owners. Nintendo has been approached for clarification on the update's size and for advice for any customers experiencing problems.

I think that reporting is a bit misleading. The update download was apparently around a gig but the os takes up 5 gigs on the system.

And it now only uses usb hard drives. No sd cards or usb flash.

Oh, and online purchases are still tied to the system basically. You can't use your Nintendo id on another system.

Nintendo: the new Sony.

What on earth does the OS do that takes up 5 gig?

Wow, over 50% of your storage on a console lost due to the OS? With the added bonus of bricking the thing, awesome!

Unless it has a built-in game, I can't see any way it could have an OS bigger than 1GB.

Nintendo are using everyone elses Wii-U's as storage for all the star points they've stolen.

Posted on the Eurogamer Wii U thread today:

Latest list of problems from those fussy beggars on Neogaf .......

- 1GB day one firmware update via slow servers.
- Individual updates for every single game so they can access Miiverse.
- Slow, laggy operating system menus. (Nintendo have at least acknowledged this particular issue and have said that they are working on it .....)
- Almost if not every 360/PS3 port has inferior visuals and/or performance to their current gen counterparts.
- GamePad and pro controllers unusable for character control in NSMBU multiplayer.
- Crashes/freezes.
- User accidentally accesses debug version of main menu.
- Another user accidentally access admin control of Miiverse, reading messages from one of the Miiverse creators/programmers.
- Nintendo IDs tied to systems, no option to transfer yet.
- Audio/video tied to HDMI or component, no option for one on either.
- TV remote control does not work with receivers. Therefore if you wish to use surround sound via HDMI, you have no TV GamePad control.
- No option to change the screen size of the whole system, just for a few apps.
- Cant turn off the screen on the controller AND at the same time select for the Wii U to shut itself off when a download completes.
- The disc drive spins always if there's a disc in the drive. Always.
- A 1.6 gig game (Mario) took 2 hours to download, and then took 20 (!) minutes to install.
- Display on the Gamepad can be distracting when playing the game on the TV

These are of course just the negatives, there are plenty of positives too (but strangely enough, no-one has made a list of them yet). Generally though, and despite all of the problems, the majority seem to like/love the system.

I think we should be grateful to our American cousins for Beta testing the Wii U for us
. ;)

In two minds about cancelling my WiiU preorder. I haven't even had time/been arsed to play Halo 4 since getting it, and there's only really NSMBU that interests me at the moment. I assumed I'd be a lot more excited about it by now. I'm just not. I hope the Xbox 720 excites me a great deal more or I may have just lost interest in this malarky.

I think I already have. My Wii is used for Wii Fit, my 360 is my DVD player and my PS3 for occasional whirls on Yakuza 3. I'll wait and see with the Wii-U though.. if it turns out ok, I'll consider one, but I wouldn't imagine doing the midnight queuing like I did with the Wii.

I only really Dark Souls these days. Although I've a couple of games on my Santa list.

I'd snap up a PS3 for £100, but not interested in anything else until the next Xbox.

I know it's not all about the performance when it comes to Nintendo consoles, (and arguably they're just for Nintendo's first-party releases and nothing else), plus it's early days yet of course, but certainly CODBLOPS2 runs significantly worse on the Wii-U than it does on the geriatric 360.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... u-face-off

Perhaps something to bear in mind if you're thinking it'll do mainstream games as well as Nintendo's own stuff.

Quote:
That said, we find it hard to blame the developer here - we have seen generational leaps in CPU, GPU and RAM technology since the launch of the Xbox 360 seven years ago, and for the Wii U hardware to under-perform to this extent on such a crucially important game doesn't look good for future prospects.

I had a go on one today.
Actually I had a go on three, because the first two crashed. It was some tank game - it was okay. The controller was huge, and pretty heavy - I don't know how comfortable it's going to be for long periods.
