Date confirmed AUGUST 12th - 14th.

Thought I'd best start a thread to see when everyone can make it. So those thinking they fancy it this year let it be knownst if there are weekends that you know you already have plans for in August/September. Then we'll do a poll.

Staying here: http://www.stayinthornthwaite.co.uk/

Dib dib dib.

Call the gaff yourself to arrange your stay or turn up like Pupil did last year and flutter your piercings.

Anytime in August except for the first weekend (6-7 Aug) and the bank holiday (27-29 August). September's mostly fine, except for the last weekend (24-25 Sept).

I'd probably be up for it, and have no known existing plans for any particular weekend in the future.

Already seems like August is busy for most folks.

Sept 3rd & 4th are looking good so far.

Dib dib dib.

Talking of tinkering, I've been reading a lot about this all week:
http://www.responsibletravel.com/holida ... -camp-trek
it's something I've wanted to do for a long time. I reckon I'm gonna go for it next summer, gives me a year to save the money, hopefully I can do some solo travelling around Tibet as well, I'll save all my hols and make an awesome month out of it!

I'll need to wait until nearer the time to confirm or deny :S I've noted that it's only a long days wander along the Cumbrian Way from Carlisle which would be nice if I've got the time/weather.
*Or two normal days with a bit of wildcamping in the hills.

3 peaks looks good too. Much more betterer than that daft UK wide one, I can't see the pleasure in that myself.

@Pupil, I had a look at that base camp trek before, it looks good but there's a Mount Kenya & Kilimajaro one that appeals to me a bit more. If I ever get to the foot of Everest I want to at least attempt to climb it. Expensive hobby this :DD

Kilimajaro would also be wicked but I've been fascinated by the Himalayan region for so long that has to be top of my list. I'd love to go the full way up Everest but from what I gather it starts costing ridiculous gear/guide money to do that, with a reasonable chance of dying, and I don't think I'd be fit enough to do it anyway!?!

Yup & even after all that there are still no guarantees you'll be able to summit :DD Although to be honest I reckon even getting a third of the way up & having to turn back would still be pretty awesome.

Anyway, book I'm reading the noo is Heinrich Harrer's "Seven years in Tibet" and it's bloody good. If you've no read it I'll send it on to you once I've finished.

In a completely non-antagonising way - what's the name of the train station?

Yup Penrith and we'll come and get you from there when you arrive, or it's one bus straight to the campsite if we're already wankered by then.

Assuming it's on a weekend I can make it, I'd be happy to pick up happy campers enroute (depending on how much space I've got in the car).

3/4 is the weekend before my children and nieces go back to school so no child care (it's a bit far for me anyways). If anyone is planning anything in derbyshire for the day then let me know, I missed the last derbyshire meet on account of only just joining the forum and not knowing if it was filled with murderers and perverts yet.

The White Spider is good, too, if you're interested in the history of climbing attempts on the north face of The Eiger, obviously written by someone with actual experience of the thing, which usually produces the best books.

Er, the first weekend in September is awkward for me now... Just been reminded the Friday night is our 5th Wedding anniversary. Mrs Z says it's fine but it's just future ammo for her.

Is everyone who has expressed an interest available for the second to last weekend in August? That's Friday the 19th to Sunday the 21st.

I think it's going to be the best date for most folks.
