Agent Starling's post might give you a clue.

Again, you're expecting me to read what people have written.

Ickle chicks ftw! Though at 6'2", the time I had a slow dance with one whose head barely reached my chest was rather disconcerting.

I used to know a guy who was about 6' 10" - he had a nightmare doing most normal things. Riding on the tube, using cash machines, having a bath, buying trousers. But then he married a girl who was about 4' 10", who had all the problems in reverse.

There's a guy in my work who's about 6'2 and about 4' wide... and apparently his missus is a tiny little Maris Crane-esque slip of a woman.

6'2" and proud. Heights OK for me it's just walking speed, I'll be walking somewhere with friends, only to find myself out in front with them straggling at the back.

Re surprise at how tall we all are.

I reckon height in men is a lot like penis size; blokes tend to overestimate and round up generously, either accidentally or otherwise, because in our minds bigger is better. I'm confident of my height as I was measured by my doctor just a couple of weeks ago, and it was the evening, so my spine was at its shortest.

It also a second case of the 'magic 6' number rearing its aspirational head.

There's jokes to be made here, I'm sure of it...

I'd love to be a little bit smaller, but not below 6'.

Probably because of my height, I seem to get every person smaller than me complaining about theirs.

Maybe they look at me, think in their minds how tall I am, and then suddenly feel inadequate (not everyone obviously, but a fair few).

See also: when working on the tills at work being asked if I am standing on a box.

I hate being tall as I dream of having a bed that I can lie out straight without my legs hanging off. Also I would love a bath that I could fit in without folding myself so much. One day if I have a house large enough I will have both but I would have preferred to stay small so I could enjoy these things easily. Also I bang my head on buses a lot which really pisses me off, oh and I can never buy cheap socks because they don't fit me properly.

My girlfriends have always been small though because tall women scare me. :)

Oh, I see what you meant, sorry.

This is why I cling very hard to my 3/4" above 5'11". I'm *nearly* 6 foot, damnit. This is also why I have tall hair - it takes me over the threshhold. I've no idea why it's important.

Still, I can't imagine that everyone here is overestimating their heights - they're surely basing it on having been measured at some point (as you and I are).

"How tall are you?"
"Six foot"
"Six foot what?"
"Six foot nothing"
"Eh?"
"Six foot zero"
"Like Coke Zero?"
"Ok, I'm five eleven. You prat"

At 5'11" I'm considered to be above average height, but walking past the high school on the school run makes me think that the average must be going up.

Most of the boys and a small but noticeable amount of the older girls must easily be over 6 feet. I feel positively short!

I'm 5' 8". My daughter is already up to my shoulders at the age of 10, so there might be something in that. 8)
