Diesels can run fully submerged as long as the exhaust is outside the water. Petrol engines... not so much

I honestly don't understand why people think a bloody Fiesta is going to be able to ford a deep river. Find another way around, you fool.

I remember the video of the flooded underpass in London a few years back where someone in a similar road car, when faced with the sight of multiple other cars stranded and literally floating in the eater, attempts a Leeroy Jenkins into the flood. Amazing.

Also, if you're in a standard car, don't try to cross a ford where there are a bunch of locals watching and cheering.

The exhaust can be underwater it's the air intake that needs to be in the air, that's what those snorkel things that people have on cars with One Life Live It stickers are for.

Isn't it why 4x4 have snorkel kits, to allow the cars to work under water..

We had to do this when work flooded and it was the *only* route out (there were two routes out, but the other had flooded more). We had a fiesta as well. I think the water was easily that high, but we made it out.

Yeah, best not to get these two mixed up. Also important to remember it's all cool having the exhaust submerged with the engine running but you don't want the engine to stop while it's like that.

I wonder how eclectic cars will be effecter as no air intake or exhaust. I guess it depends if the bits are water tight.

Early Tesla Model S had problems with not being waterproof. A very expensive lesson.

They don't give a shit, it's only a problem if you don't dry them out afterwards because corrosion. The motors and batteries and stuff don't care about being underwater

One very much depends on the other!

But then if you did, there'd be no happy accidents like eclectic cars.

That's a legitimate tactic, assuming your air intake is at the front.

I've mashed up my heat shield by driving into a half-decent puddle too quick, so given the speed some of those entered the water I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't cause a decent amount of damage regardless of the kilo of river mud they sucked into their engine.

I've finished for the year but went to Malvern anyway for personal training at the gym.

Since I had time and both cars need some bits doing that Skoda wilfully ignored during warranty I went to the garage I used for the previous cars.

Last time i was in was something like 2 and a half years ago, to get a recommendation for some paint repair.

One of the guys looked up at me and when I took my mask off momentarily said "oh, hi Nik!"

That's how you know you buy the wrong cars :)

The Superb almost certainly needs new pads and rotors the way I've driven it for 3.5 years and it needs an alignment, if it's going up on the lift for that plus investigation/repair anyway I'd be a fool not to drop it 10--15mm and space the wheels 5-10mm at the same time ;)

Then it'll be ready for the extra 100bhp I swore I didn't need when I chopped the 535d in against something slower...

There had to be something I don't like about it, but so far the only thing is having the 12v power socket next to the handbrake lever at the hinge end. But at least it's not as bad as the Citroen C3 Crossback I rented in the summer, that had it under the handbrake lever.

What do you folks use for protecting the keys in the house?

This looks a cost effective option.

What's the range on those key cloning things?

Keep your keys in the kitchen if that's far enough away. I'll only charge £14.99 for this bit of advice so there, I've saved you a fiver!

Mine get dropped in a metal tin in the kitchen.
I’ve taken the tin outside right next to the car and the door won’t unlock, so I’m happy enough it’s working.

Shouldn't it have one of the keys that needs to be moved. I'm under the impression they changed it to prevent theft in this way.

Personally I wouldn’t worry about it dude. We live in a pretty small town, and (no disrespect intended here!) Skoda estates are unlikely to be priority targets for scrotes stealing cars to order, or even to joyride.
