Is there a meter display on the shower unit?! That's pretty posh.

No unfortunately, but I have smart meters installed and the display is on my desk, so I can see how much I am using per day/week/month etc.

I've always wondered about those. Do you change your habits if you see it going up or is it just nice to know where you are?

Just a nice to know. It came with the smart meter, so I just like watching.

We have one exactly like that but it doesn’t give us a gas reading and just says gas supply is disconnected - it isn’t, it works fine and the meter itself still sends the meter readings to our supplier (Bulb, lol)

It worked fine for about a week and then just stopped and they don’t know why.

The electricity reading still works though.

The gas stopped on mine for a bit. I was told to let the battery run flat and restart it. That made it work.

The Bosch cordless secateurs I bought Helen died quickly and the garden saw's piddling built-in battery is fading, so because Makita don't do the latter and their version of the former is an awesome thing with a backpack that costs £800 I've bought her the Ryobi versions - and adaptors so the Makita batteries work on them. Here're the terrifying secateurs.

I bought myself some Sony wh1000xm4 headphones which drop the Bluetooth connection after a couple of minutes, so here I am distracting from the loveliness that is the Bose qc45 I've replaced them with!

I appreciated this.

I'm now quite desperate to put a Salamander HomeBoost pump on our water supply. Buying it would *surely* make me get around to doing the already-necessary furtling with plumbing near where the indoor stopcock should be...

However now I think I might also "need" a water descaling thingummy as well. To the Learn-o-tron!

Aw, lost post.

TL;cbart Big Bag O Flour turned up like this. Preserved what seemed probably-fine as vac-packed kilos, looking forward to an intact bag on Monday. Christmas? CARBmas more like!

It's definitely humans.

The box was intact, the supplier has blamed mishandling by DPD but the bag was fair crammed in there. Whoever, I'm impressed someone somehow managed to blow basically the entire bottom seam of a 16kg bag of flour. It's no small-time manufacturer either, it's Allied, so the paper and stitching are unlikely at fault.

I had a salamander pump in my old house, it made the shower a million times better and completely transformed my showering experience. It was a +1 bar pump I think making my 1 bar system 2 bar.
Lasted until we sold the house and probably is still going so it's long lasting too.
Highly recommend

Good to know, ta!

Apparently the legal domestic main pumping limit is 12l/min which is weird and crap, but if we can at least get consistency a small rainfall shower might be on the cards again.

In the Manchester suburbs we got a fresh main and the pressure and flow were nuts, I think we'll have to aim smaller than 25x25cm here.

Can you use pumps like that with electric showers? I assume not as the heating element presumably can only heat so much water at once as it passes through it, but I’d love to increase the power of our shower.

I think you can. Each electric shower should be able to cope with different water pressure. Although will depend how quick it can heat the water.

I'm not at all sure about this but I think electric showers work by turning on the heating element to X then throttling the water flow until you're comfortable, turning the dial to hot is actually turning the water flow down. So if you pump the water you'll just have to turn the flow down at the shower unit more to compensate

You can (the one I'm looking is intended to be fitted without any Ts off before it), but the point is to raise pressure/flow to the normal range - if you already get in the vicinity of 12l/min they won't make much difference.

Treated myself to a new kindle as the old one was not keep its charge.

You can see how much the kindle paperwhites have changed over the years. Left 5th edition (2013) and right 11th edition (2021)

Yes. I like it.

Amazon let you trade in your old one (£20) and give you 20% off. It was a bargain.

The screen is a lot larger and clearer. It also has Bluetooth so I can listen to audiobooks on it too.

I also like how you can change the brightness and the warmthness.

Does it come with free internet and a web browser though, so you can check beex on holiday. Which I last used in [checks notes] 2011...

I used the free WiFi loads to check my email, etc, in 2011. It was great! I still don’t understand how that worked.

Amazing that those ones Grim… mentioned are waterproof, too. I like the idea of adjustable warmth as a yellow/peach tinted page really helps me to stop developing migraines.

To type.

The reason new ones don't need it is because they have a keyboard on the touch screen.

Stock footage because it's dark now, got a Shent or Garent to put all the crap that's cluttering up the actual garage. Erected it on the third most windy day of the year.

Yep. It's the belt for the eject mechanism on my minidisk player.

They lose their elasticity or break completely after a few years. Not too difficult to fit with a pair of tweezers, though you do have to take the whole drive unit out of the casing. The whole job takes about 20 minutes.

But they cost £6.55 and I suspect that a 1" diameter standard rubber band might do the job just as well and only cost £3.99 for 200.

Weirdly, if the belt fails, you can still eject a disk if you turn the player upside down, along as the belt hasn't broken completely.

I've just been into town where they've got some kind of car boot/stolen goods market on. I saw this on one of the tables and recognised it from the game Destiny 2. A quick look on ebay says that they normally fetch around £60 so I was expecting it to be out of my price range. I asked the guy and he said that he didn't really know what it was so would I be happy with a couple of quid for it?

It was in my bag before he'd finished the sentence.

It's an Alexa speaker type thing that connects to the game Destiny 2 and can tell you your stats and stuff... I think...
