Indeed. But he had to read it three times before some of us caught on. And it wasn't his reading ability that was the problem.

He had me at "unlikely avian-feline partnership". Unfortunately that was also the only one on that round I got right, everyone else got at least 3.

Oh, no, we'd all worked it out. Just wanted to hear him read it again :DD

I was adding some silly very tangential throw away clues to a round I was creating (I'm back in I*bridge) and at one point I say It's like X, but not X, and I realise that half of the rest of the clues relate to X rather than the thing I was meant to be cluing!

(Each clue was going to be less and less obscure until the final clue pretty much tells you the theme of the round - For example let's say the theme was Trees

If The last clue was going to be Trees
the second last might have been something about the noise dogs make
the third last might have been referencing meows in a negative way
the rest of the clues were all about cats)

Does that make sense? I am not even sure I think it's a good idea any more, even if I fix it, as you'll all be thinking wtf is he on about!

)

What you're saying makes sense (I think!), but yeah I don't think that'd be workable as a quiz round - it seems like the sort of thing where no-one would make the leap from "cats" to "trees" unless they already had the knowledge of the clues that were coming later, so you're basically ensuring that no-one gets the points for the first few clues.

(although tbh I'm not sure what the "referencing meows in a negative way" bit refers to here)

I assume what you'd be after would be more like:

Trees
Something about the noise dogs make
Something about individual locations for high-street banks
Something about the rear opening of a car

?

The clues are only for the theme not for points, the negative about a cat's meow thing was because it wasn't about cat's noises it was about dog's noises, and yeah, I think it's probably not workable (if it was a theme of trees maybe, but given the actual theme maybe not)

Aaaah, I see. Yeah, understand now.

If there's enough clues it might work, just sounds like it requires a bit of lateral thinking while analysing them all.

The Tuesday Night Quiz is in danger of turning into the reincarnation of 3-2-1.

Some of you young people may need to Google that.

I was thinking of that as I was writing some of the obscure quotes, I initially referenced it in the rules. Nearly all trace of it has gone now.

So we're looking for the name of a quiz show. 3-2-1, we're counting down, that's a countdown, there's a supermarket in New Zealand called Countdown, they use carrier bags - put a bag on your head you can't see: that's right, sure you got it, it's Blind Date!

More questions about rounds:

I have a round about somethings that I own that I want to do a quiz round on. Now, I only own 8 of these things.

So should I:

A: Not bother with the round at all
B: Do a round with 8 questions only (after all, I've done tonnes with more than 8 questions, this will help balance the average a bit)
C: Find 2 more things online that are from the set and make the round up with questions about them, making the round up to 10
D: Ask 2 questions about 2 of the objects in my collection, making the round up to 10
E: Find 2 more things at home that are not really anything to do with the original subject, but might make a fun non-sequitur in a few weeks if/when we play the round, making the round up to 10.
F: Something else (please elaborate)

I think C, D and E all have their merits, but, as always, I'd like to hear what you guys think.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be late this evening... No change there then.

My daughters dance class is late tonight and MrsTheVision is going out so I'm in charge of bed time for everyone when we get back.

I've just had an amazing idea for a round, needs some research (it might be really hard and amount to guess work, so not that much fun to answer - when has that stopped me before though!) but if I don't manage, someone remind me.

On a related note, if doing a guess the year, what rage would people prefer? ie a specific decade, or some from various decades or something else?

Seething, quiet rage would be my first choice, followed by throwing inanimate objects type rage.

Depends on the question and how far back we’re talking.

Movie/song releases within the last 50 years, probably a year either way.

Historical events from the last 2000 years, you’d probably want something a bit wider unless the events are very well known.

That's not what I meant, I was thinking would you want all the questions to be years from the 90s, or all from the 80s? Or all from the 21st century? or the 20th? etc

Man, I fucking suck at reading comprehension lately.

Personally I’d prefer a good mixture of different decades, but if the questions are popular culture focused, fuck anything before the 60s ;)

I’d love to Malc, but it’s at the time of our Ocado delivery slot each week. And for some reason I just feel a bit distant and awkward at the moment. I think Covid has made it harder.

Either way, hope you feel better today :luv:

I think I cocked-up on my scoring for Malc's European mapping round as even I shouldn't have had such a dismal score. Not that I wouldn't have come last overall, as is the tradition, but it wouldn't have been by such an embarrassing margin.

Apart from being late, my performance hit an all time low, not helped by falling asleep during one of Malc’s rounds.

That’s no reflection on the quality of the round, I was just so knackered after a pretty horrendous and long day.
