Is this in that new room your wife puts you in?

It is a tad frustration at the lack of PS5s :(

Tempted to buy a switch.

One fuck-up this morning illustrates The Butterfly Effect quite nicely.

I had a call for a part that I didn't have in my van stock. The idiot girl on dispatch thought I had two, but I used both of them yesterday and if she had checked her database she would have known this. I called her to ask if there was one available locally but the nearest was in Warrington. She put an order in for me to collect it but when I got there they gave me the wrong part, and i noticed this immediately. I went back in to the depot to see if I could work out what had happened, and was told that the part I wanted had been given to another engineer in error.

I rang my fellow engineer who said he needed that part for a call he was attending. So I called Dispatch again and asked if there was another one available locally. There wasn't, so could I check with other engineers in case anyone had a spare one. My colleague Alan had a spare one, but he was on his way to Buxton and I was in Warrington. We agreed to meet back at our parts depot in Salford.

Then I set off to Bolton to use the part that I had just collected. When I almost finished I got a phone call from the engineer who taken the part assigned to me from Warrington to say that the part he collected was not the part he thought it was and he needed the one that I had picked up mistakenly in Warrington. So we then agreed to meet up halfway between Bolton where I was working, and Wigan where he was working, just so he could get the part that he needed.

So between us we probably travelled about 100 miles that we needn't have done if the stupid sod at Warrington had handed out the correct part in the first place.

Now, you may say this sort of thing shouldn't happen because the parts should have our names on them. This is true if they've been ordered overnight but if we are asked to go to a different depot to pick them, up they will have the dispatcher's name on them as was the case today. It's only when we collect them that we we access our own database to log the part as "collected."

What fun!

I have been woken up by a really loud hooting owl.

Of course it stopped as soon as I tried to record it!

We have two or three large owls that keep us awake every night, but I love them. Darwin and I were trying to spot them last night as it happens, but it was too dark. I missed the owls from our old place when we moved, so I’m glad these ones ‘moved in’ a few weeks later.

Less impressed (but still amused) by these chatty bois though:

It's a pity the weather's not better today as I'm lunching just outside Stainland and there are great views both to the left and right.

Does anyone else think about the possibility of this happening when you are buying a house?

I even think about it when going past houses on T junctions. I am sure the percentages of crashes into buildings shouldn't justify my worry, but when has that ever stopped someone worrying!

I used to live roughly where the green spot is on the below map:

I would wonder how likely it was that someone would take the corner too fast (perhaps in a police chase) and crash into the house. Strange the things the brain latches on to.

Yes, me, all the time. And e.g. houses by rivers and streams too. There's some gorgeous houses down the road from us in Ironbridge but there's no way I'd live there.
