How do you turn it on/off? That picture looks like it's possible to have both hot and cold arse at the same time.

There's one dial for each of the front seats, it goes:

HOT< 3 - 2 - 1 - 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 >COLD

(Those dials are in the centre armrest area.)

It looked a bit like that to me too when I first glanced, but I thought that seemed like madness.

Although you know what would be nice, to have a setting for a slightly warm botty but a much warmer back. I suspect there are some super posh cars that could do this.

Really needs separate zones for each arse cheek otherwise it's just a gimmick

You are correct, I watch Doug DeMuro's channel on YouTube and on high-end super-swish new cars you can do all sorts of crazy stuff with multiple heat and cool zones in the seats, and there are many movement zones in the seats too so they can hug certain bits of your body when you go round corners and stuff.

TBH I thought cooled seats were a gimmick (in our climate at least) until the heatwave hit and then I was just like, 'Wow, these are actually quite nice.'

The best thing about the Lexus is that it cost four grand, it tickles me pink that you can get that much car for less than the price of a 7-8 year old bog-standard VW Golf.

I don't know why people don't seem to want them, I guess it's not a very desirable car segment and the GS300 does seem to be exclusively the preserve of old men (certainly if the ones around here are anything to go by), plus maybe folks lump them in with 10-15+ year old Mercs or BMWs, which are nothing but a constant stream of bills for niggly shit going wrong.

Whereas the Lexus is basically a Toyota with a skirt on and a different badge, but I see that as a good thing since Toyota make some of the most reliable cars in the world.

If this one blows up I'd definitely have another one, but by all accounts they're not known for anything going seriously wrong with them, they were very popular in the States where they would routinely clock up 250K-300K+ miles without issue. (Mine only has 63K on it.)

Nobody wants a GS because the LS exists.
Nobody wants a new LS because Merc and BMW exists, and that trickles down through the used market.

That's certainly a decent point, although it does mean a bonanza on the used market for cheapskates like me. (Plus the LS doesn't really hold its value any better than the GS.)

An immaculate LS460 came up locally earlier in the year for £7K but of course I already had the GS so I had to take a pass. I did really want it though.

In fact I've still got the pic of it, it was quite the stretch of willpower not to buy it.

A lot of the BMWs that I've had allowed you to control the distribution of heat between back and crack.

My current one doesn't though, boooo.

The two M5s that I had came with "active seat bolsters" which did this. I didn't realise at first, so the first time I took a corner... enthusiastically in the M5 scared the shit out of me when the seat suddenly hugged me tight. I thought someone was sat in the back reaching through, lol.

Old car = expensive bills and running costs.
Big car = difficult to park, difficult to drive (observe how many people in tiny cars have little to no spatial awareness!)
Lots of gadgets = more to go wrong = expensive bills and running costs

A big part of it for me though is just that your VAG cars are marketed really well, whereas Jap car marketing tends to be absolutely shite in comparison.

Still no sign of my lease car. I get an email from the leasing company once a month to tell me there's still no build date because of the shortage of chips.

Mine is due October, because of the chip issue. It is annoying as the value of my car keeps going up..

Although we'd rather not have spent £303 I think we got our moneys worth from the MOT/Garage we chanced (C&H shut now, Mark):

Offside front calliper
Offside rear spring
Rear pads and discs
2 hours labour (at a guess)
Plus the £40 test itself

Yeah that sounds pretty reasonable really. You could have done the brakes yourself but the coil spring might have been a bit of a fight.

That and the fact I can't get a car into my garden due to it being a building site right now.

Mine was "expected" to be the end of May/beginning of June when the leasing was finalised in March and the payments were fixed at that point. I don't pay anything until after delivery and I don't think they can increase the payments without drawing up a new agreement. Mrs. W is not happy, and suggested trying to find an alternative with a concrete build date, but I recon we'd just go to the back of another queue if we diud that.

I might behave to buy something cheap to tide me over.

I keep getting emails from webuy any car, as the valuation for my car keeps going up. In June they offered £12,300 now they are offering£14,425. Which is what I paid for my car.

Just need my new one to be delivered, and I can have the extra £2000 :)

I am looking at podpoint electrical charge points, as my new car is a PHEV. I am not sure if I want tethered £499 (with cable ) or untethered £449, which means I have to use my owe cable that comes with the car.

Do we think charging tech will change a lot in 3 years to worry about the cable type changing?

I'd definitely, though I have no interest in this, go for the untethered, assuming it delivers the same output etc. If things are going electric, then who knows what will change in several years' time?

I'd probably get a tethered one, I highly doubt it'll move away from type 2 for AC charging any time soon. Also charge cables are reasonably expensive and one left outside might be something that opportunist thieves start grabbing in the years to come.

Without being a proper idiot, won't both untethered and tethered present the same issues if charging tech changes? You still have a socket that needs changing if untethered. I'd get tethered so you don't have to keep your cable easily accessible in the car.

Personally I'd get tethered. Much less hassle and who knows what the future holds (apart from Russel grant)

It'll be fine for the future most probably. These wall boxes don't really do that much. They aren't chargers, they just provide the car with 220V AC at a higher rate than a normal socket. The charger is part of the car.

How many different plug types are there? And is there any type of adapter or such like? Could a pro un-tether or change the cable later on?

I really don't know much about this.

I am not sure. I am tempted to go untethered and use the cable that comes with the car.

In seriousness sounds like untethered is best for future proofing, though expectation is type 2 should be a safe bet.

I hold issue with this statement. Given your criteria for any house purchase is a nearby chip shop, I would argue that you like chips more than a lot of people.
