I'd like to do something that would help me with a bit of core strength as well as flexibility, as I'm starting to get a bit stiff and awkward in my movements.

I was thinking along the lines of yoga or pilates but I'm not really sure what the differences are. Does anyone here know from experience? I'm not against mindfulness or meditation by any means but i'm more interested in the physical side than the spiritual aspect.

Pilates is a bit more up tempo I think. You can definitely find yoga practioners that are less 'spiritual' though (and if you're able to self-motivate with videos etc, plenty of people on youtube)

Pilates is the older exercise and can be done with specialist equipment called reformers as well as freestyle. The spirituality of Yoga is slightly crowbarred on from an ancient form of meditation, and you don't need to get sucked into that at all.
I do Yoga a couple of times a week for specific neck and shoulder loosening exercises and I use Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. She's very popular and not too woo-woo

First training run done! Running slower is really strange. But then running faster felt great

Yeah, it always feels way better to be sprinting instead of dying over the line. I hate it when I set off too fast.

That's good going. I really need to start mixing it up a bit. I'm doing plenty of miles but usually I just want to go out for an hour or so, plod around at my usual pace and listen to the next bit of my book, though.

Ta.

The sixth was hard. I need to tome it down a bit next time and run "at a pace you can maintain for 20 mins" rather than "wahaaaaaaaay".

I needed some direction, as otherwise I just run to New Brighton, Leasowe lighthouse or Red Rocks with no real idea behind it.

Did a half and half run this morning. The headwind on the way out didn't help with the "run easy" bit.

I'll just get to the end of this John Grisham then get on it with some shorter runs and sprinting. I do sort of fancy taking up fell running but I think that might be a bridge too far for my fucked legs.

Gotta be a brave man to wear those in a public place.

When I was in my 20s I bought (what I considered to be) a pair of really cool shoes.

I realised I might be wrong when I was in Manchester city centre one lunch time and heard a construction worker I'd just passed, going in the opposite direction, say to his coworker, "Did you see the state of those fuckin' shoes?"

They weren't even platforms. I had a couple of pairs of those that I pretty much hated. I blasme Mrs. W for having them at all.

I've just tried Googling 70s men's fashion shoes and can't find anything like them.

I couldn't cope with having odd shoes like that.

The left and right are different colours too.

So you can remember which goes on which foot?

I actually think they’re less bright than some of your precious shoes. I do somewhat wish that the laces matched the shoes l, though (so the orange shoe had orange shoelaces).

You can get plainer colours, but that is not really me.. :)

They came with a pair of yellow and a pair of pink laces so I put one of each in :)

Intervals done. Third one was into the wind which I couldn't finish as it was too strong. Enjoyed the rest of them, though.

I was drier in the post run shower than I was after the first four minutes of it mind

Good going!

I just took over a minute off my 10K PB with a 46.25 well happy with that, was hard work but didn't feel like I was actually dying. All the miles definitely starting to pay off.

Thanks! I was happy because I had actually set out with the intention of trying to go fast and that never usually works. But I'd planned nutrition meticulously this time and eaten a Tunnocks caramel wafer bar half an hour before setting off.
