This. This is the scale to know how well you're doing.

A naïf: “RPGs are the ultimate collaborative, co-operative games.”

A wise person: “RPGs are a ruthless competition and the winner is the first person to make the GM say ‘fuck you’.”

I’m getting closer to winning

Hamon Toast said it was at Thundertree! But Sam described a snake bird. I hope it is just a Snird instead of a Dragbush.

Bottom row, second set from the left. D8 is looking a lot brighter. Need a full new set I'd say.

One of those sets is Chessex, the rest £3 jobbies from China. I can't tell the difference between the two. Hurrah for communism!

Next week we really have to try and remember what we can do.

sdg! Was our 'Pass Without Trace' buff removed when we entered combat or are we '(re)covered' now that room has been cleared out?

(Btw i play the 1st Ed game on roll20 and the 5th Ed game on Fantasy Grounds)

My first ever character death was to a Frost Giant who killed me in one hit when I was around level 5 and still unpacking my dice and stuff at the table :'(

That’s tough losing a character at level 8! Are you rerolling?

Yes it was quite the blow...poor old Argyle of the Drenthar, we shall miss your hiding in the background and shouting at NPCs. No, i'm not re-rolling as we are at the end of playing (a very expanded version) The Temple of Elemental Evil and I have taken over one of the NPCs, Zirt an NPC Fighter we picked up in Homlett right at the beginning of the campaign.

Cool.

Right gang, we need to stealth-murder everything else in the castle within 25-35 mins.

I'm suspicious that the "stealth" boat may already have sailed. I'm not convinced "Bear vs Hobgoblin" can ever be that stealthy.

Hmm I have 3 lvl1 slots and 2 lvl2 slots to use! Might switch back to Druid and get busy with some moonbeam, entangle before using the 2nd Wild Shape of the day. Hmmmm...

Well the two(?) things we could detect in that room might be fighty, but the snake bird on the roof sounds fightier. If we don't befriend it and just rush in like fools, that is...

I thought the things we detected are now the cadavers at our feet? It was Sam who told us of the Bird Worm with its friends up top.

Nah, the detected things were in the room to the northeast of We now. The detect thunks spell wouldn't reach to the Gobhoblins we kilt. They're aboot to come through the door.

Are you not literally going somewhere called Wyvern Hill or similar? I don't think it's named because the river Wyve passes nearby.

One of the orcs there was called Verne. And we couldn't figure out why he wanted to live there.

OR they're smarter than than and are marshalling more Gobhoblins using magical messaging means to catch us in a classic pincer movement! Pinned down, subject to enfilading fire and taken out piecemeal!

Great short article here about D&D during the pandemic. I love this observation from Marisha Ray: “When we can get into a room together and take four to five hours to just escape, we get to be the heroes with full agency and control and action,” she says. “And that's something that people don't have right now in their real lives.”

Yeah, but much like films and tv, I like to suspend my critical thinking and immerse myself in the world, not thinking too far ahead or too deeply about what’s coming up. It’s nice to have surprises and not be too “meta” about it all. I am happy to critique or delve deeper into stuff after the fact.
