A few people mentioned it might be better for the Family fortunes/pointless round if it took up a bit more time. Suggesting doing a longer version of it.

I'm not sure a whole evening of it would be the best thing, but what if it was longer than what we did yesterday?

Maybe doing 15 family fortunes cards (3 rounds of 5 perhaps?) and 15 pointless cards (once again 3 rounds of 5)?

What do you guys think? I don't want to dominate the whole evening with it, especially if most people would prefer something different.

I had a lot of fun creating it, so it was great to see everyone laughing where I thought people would. I'm pretty sure there is enough material out there for a second incarnation of it in the future.

I'd be happy with this, particularly if Gaz listens to my suggestions next time :DD

I was hysterical when "You're gonna have to face it, your a dick with a glove" came up. I'd never heard that mondegreen before.

American writer Sylvia Wright coined the term in 1954, writing that as a girl, when her mother read to her from Percy's Reliques, she had misheard the lyric "layd him on the green" in the fourth line of the Scottish ballad "The Bonny Earl of Murray" as "Lady Mondegreen".

Laughter is definitely infectious.

When I were a lad, one of my chums came up with the idea of "going round the corner for a laugh." Sounds like the kind of thing kids would say, but in his case he meant it literally.

There was a low wall round the corner of our street, at the side of some shops, where three or four of us used to sit and hang out when we had nothing much to do. But when he came up with the idea, we'd sit there and each try to start laughing. Once one of us had started, the others couldn't help but start laughing as well. The more we laughed, the more we laughed, until we were doing so uncontrollably. It was a very odd but joyous experience.

I’ve just realised that we never went through with the conclusion of Taskmalcster.

Is that something we’re still gonna do? Assuming Malc and everyone else wants to of course??

I'm happy to, but I decided not to push it, as I thought if people wanted to do the round, then, it would happen naturally.

Enjoyed it last night. Would have run but for those dam rebels.

Urban Dictionary wrote:
gricer
A trainspotter, someone who braves rainy and windy station platforms to catch a glimpse of unusual trains. An unproved etymology holds that this word comes from a humorous pronunciation of “grouse”, making the connection between the supposed resemblance of trainspotting to grouse-shooting. The verb grice and the participle gricing are back-formations from gricer. This is from the website for Times Online and is my sense for the word as it is currently used. I would drop the word 'unusual' as a more generic definition would focus on fascination with trains as evidenced by gricing, i.e. wandering about the planet to see, ride, and photograph them

I don't think my pointless/family fortunes mashup round will be ready by Tuesday. I've had an idea (Michael Caine style at the end of the Italian Job!) and unlike Charlie Crocker I went to make sure it's done properly.

I had come to ask if you guys thought that bonus points for finishing first on a round (this is in relation to the pointless/family fortunes mega round I'm compiling) was a good idea or not, but as I was writing the post, I thought it's just going to complicate the scoring, and also just emphasise the difference between 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd etc.

So unless everyone objects, I am just going to make it that the scores are based on purely on how many points the correct answer is worth.

I also assume that everyone is okay with the maximum points on offer in the Family Fortunes section is 728, whilst you can lose up to 1500 points in the pointless section? So the possibility of a negative score for everyone is quite probable!

I reckon if you're already differentiating between 1st, 2nd, etc, then that's enough - on other rounds, after all, several of us can finish on the same points. Course, it can mean someone does brilliantly, scores 700, second is -120, third -150 etc., yet only a point behind. But I think that'll work fine - not that we're mega-competitive necessarily, but it means the winner isn't going to streak ahead.

It was rubbish (says the contestant who came last by a looooong way, once again).

Actually, it was most excellent. Thank goodness we don't have to pay Malc an hourly rate for the amount of work that went into it.

That's a clear failure of family planning. You should have crossed out Tuesdays on the calendar and the you wouldn't be in this mess every year.

Great fun everyone, thanks!

Here's the track listing and cover of the Worst Compilation Album in the History of All Things.
