that's reassuring to hear, Mr Chonks and Bamba. WIll try again this evening.

Though I did find myself falling asleep to visions from Bloodborne, which is NWINRN.

If you want to actually clear it out properly then just take it slow and go round the edges trying to aggro enemies one at a time. If you've actually made it through there before and just want to see what comes next then fuck it, just sprint through. At the risk of being patronising that's basically the core gameplay loop; you rarely bother fully clearing an area out more than once and sprinting through stuff you've already done just to get to the next area is absolutely de rigueur.

However, the better you get and the more you level up, those earlier areas become easier and easier. By the end I was just slicing through enemies that caused me so many issues in the early game like they were nothing

I've cleared out the area a couple of times, but then go and get killed shortly after, so find myself facing the prospect of clearing it out again. Will run through it next time, I think.

I ran through it and killed a big troll moping behind a big wooden door.

Then I got killed by some chaps and their hell-dogs.

Ran through it again, killed the chaps and their hell-dogs to get my blood echoes back.

Then I got killed by the big moping troll.

It's bloody stressful.

Miles Morales: sheer joy from every button press, and every button press you could have made would have also bought massive happiness. Gaming nirvana and well worth the entry fee. I cried.

Nigh on perfect.

59) Spiritfarer (Xbox)

Lovely hand drawn animation, beautiful sound and music, and a story about letting go of people at the end. I’ll be honest, I did welled up on more than one occasion. It reminded me of To The Moon in terms of tone.

The resource management of the actual game didn’t do much for me though, although it kept me busy, but it suffers from the usual “you need X”, “X can only be made by getting Y &/or Z” and “Y & Z can only be found at A location or B vendor” but they don’t tell you the last two bits so it’s just easier to look it up instead of farting around. And it’s all Windwaker-esq as you slowly sail the seas of the void without help of fast travel (well, you can, sort of, but it’s limited); but even the slow journeys help the tone and atmosphere of what is really a relaxing game with big values and big issues to deal with.

But the characters? Loved them all. The drug addict, the gangster, the old dear, the lothario, of the lothario made me cry. The bastard. Couldn’t keep his dick in his pants, ruined the woman who loved him and went looking for him, died alone knowing that he had hurt so many people. Oh and the child!? It’s hinted at who s/he died but it was still immensely sad. The woman frightened at the moment of her end. Man, I swear these simple stories made me feel some strange existential feelings.

Shame about the resource management cause I loved this.

Huh? That’s it? I remember playing Until Dawn and it being much longer. I don’t know how long this took but I only had an hour or so each night for a few nights and then it just ended. By the end I had rescued everyone and was never in fear of killing a single one of my annoying shipmates. And I failed a few of the QTEs.

Frankly, it’s nowhere near as good as Until Dawn. Worse characters (I know, surprising), worse setting, worse story and the same janky game engine that looks nice enough but, fuck me, just moving about is a fucking chore as your character jams up against items and scenery that’s 6 feet from them. And everyone moves so slowly you’d swear they were talking to someone on an earpiece. At least the lengthy load times of Until Dawn are smashed to bits thanks to the joy of next gen SSDs. It reminds me of the Telltale games that never bothered to improve their engine and they felt like shit after the shine of their first game wore off yet, here we are, two games in and supermassive games’ second game already feels dated and old hat.

The SOMO boys are back. SOMO’s got a decent story and nice graphics with unfortunately dull gameplay. Let’s see if they did anything better this time around.

What was that game that was a boring horror walking simulator about a painting? They made a sequel. Anyway, it looks a bit like that, but this time the game is set around a Resident Evil 1-esq house with doors locked by keys that have a Raven, a Queen, or a crown or some shit. Just like Resi. Anyway, it looks nice. It probably runs like shit on base consoles but there’s an “unlocked frame rate” option so next generation machines are alriiight. There’s also options for chromatic aberration, FXAA, TSA x 4 or 8 and some other shit that PC people will be jerking their tiny cocks off about. Frankly, I don’t know which of those options were better or worse and would have preferred some text explaining what those options actually meant. No, I’m not interested in googling it or having it explained outside the game.

Gameplay is the same as SOMA or Outlast where you skulk about veeeery slowly. The enemies all have bags on their heads so it’s all about being quiet. It’s as interesting and innovative as that sounds.

Then we’ve got the story. It’s got one and it’s nowhere near as interesting as SOMA. It’s some bollocks about a woman in an attic that you keep in touch with by phones that are dotted around the mansion. Yes, they went there. Again.

And it took 2 1/2 hours to finish. I got the bad ending cause I missed something that I had actually picked up but then died without saving and then forgot to re-pick up cause it was an annoying section to replay where you can get trapped by hooded guys on these narrow walkways with hearing like owls. The weird thing is, I could probably go back and get it for the good ending and I reckon it’d only take 5-10 minutes but I can’t be arsed. It’s just not memorable. It’s actually a step back from the good work done by SOMA. The only improvement on that game is the inclusion of a decent speed run. Everything else is shitterer.

24. Elsinore (PC)
25. Hades (PC)
26. Into the Breach (PC)

Turn based strategy with no randomness. Quite gud.

And that completes the average of 1 game every two weeks that seems to be my typical level.

There's no real peril and for the majority of the game, you're just following the on screen prompts. An easy 1000g though so every cloud and all that.

The Muppets meets Pokemon. Let’s be honest, this isn’t a PS5 graphical showcase, but it is a charming, sweet and an occasionally funny catch em up. The muppets are filled with character and animate well but it’s the voice acting that brings this game up from medium to good. The story is basically a series of fetch quests where you figure out how to catch the pokemon using your limited arsenal, the environment and other Pokemon. It’s not that long and it’s not that difficult but it’s a reasonable distraction. I wanted to see how it all ended most of all and see whether it was just some sugary sweet nonsense. Fortunately I wasn’t disappointed by the finale which was a bit nutty. Yeah, not bad for free; all things considered. I doubt I’d buy a sequel if I had to pay actual cash for it though.

The campaign is terrible and none of the War Stories, except the last one where you play a German tank commander, are particularly interesting. And even then during the tank commander story you’re operating, urgh, a tank. Obv. And tanks are notoriously unfun to play and most fights involve you sitting still and firing until you can inch forward and do the same. Yawn.

I’ll say this, it looks quite nice though, but it’s got this slight lack of polish that you don’t get from a CoD campaign. And they make these daft design choices like the white coloured HUD. The mission markers appear at the top of the screen and if you’re playing during the daytime you’ll struggle to see the fucking things.

And the menus are fucking horrible.

Yeah, it’s a bit shit this.

Game Pass is fucking great. I saw this little game on the new releases which I’d heard literally nothing about and watched the trailer. Looked interesting so I pressed the button on the app and it loaded itself onto my Xbox.

In a spare moment yesterday, I thought I’d have a quick look at this and, fuck me, it was right up my alley. It’s LIMBO/INSIDE inspired with the same atmosphere as the aforementioned but more recently BELOW. These are all my wheelhouse. Dark miserable art-house games with terrific soundscapes. I love em. Graphics: noice. Sound: Mwaaah.

Anyway, so it’s a side scroller in the vein of INSIDE but with Prince of Persia’s combat where it’s block and hit. You press up and down to block incoming attacks and then attack. Block high and you’ve got to attack low. Block low; attack high. In fact, sparse combat encounters separate this from the INSIDE-lite gameplay. And the combat is fucking terrible. On normal difficulty the timing between an enemy whiffing high or low is less than millisecond. It’s fucking impossible to react in time. I played a couple of hours and died so much that I actively sought out an easy mode because it was fucking stupid. I was convinced my pad was having lagging as sometimes my button presses weren’t registering. I took out the batteries and used the wire. I changed the batteries. I reset the controller. After all that it turns out there was an easy mode! And it made the timing much more manageable, but even then there’s some stupid encounters, especially the last boss who was a cunt that I kinda cheesed him by forcing him to repeat one set of moves. Not sure that was by design either and it took thirty odd deaths to recognise I could get him to replicate this pattern by my actions.

Anyway, play it on easy and you’ll rock through it in a couple of hours and maybe, if you like games like wot I do, you might enjoy your time with this one.

What a lovely game, I loved the story and battles were awesome.

I did drop the challenge level down towards the end, just to enjoy the game more.

I will try to clear up the last bits and the Valk, but they are a hard fight.
