I think the next two I want is the Monster Manuel (there is too much butter on those trays) and the Guide to Everything.

Feats aren’t allowed yet. When you reach the right level, you can choose between the normal level up bonus which I think at that level will be extra points in two skills, or you can opt for a feat instead. Some DMs don’t allow feats but I like them so you’re fine to choose one when the time comes.

Did everyone start with gold? If you didn’t, add 10gp to your inventory.

Yeah, I have gold (10gp).

Will there be a shop in this Goblin hideout?

My dream is to buy one of the Beadle and Grimm sets one day but you need to play in person and they’re about $300 :blown:
https://beadleandgrimms.com/
They’re basically super deluxe sets with the whole hardback adventures in nicely presented chapter books, with special handouts like letters, jewellery, maps etc.

My table doesn’t have a wheel but it’s not far off that one! It seats eight, has a gaming cellar that can be covered by removable leaves, and has drink holders that can slot into the outside rail. I had the option of adding a tv into the base for D&D maps but I don’t ever play D&D at home so I resisted.

I suggested to my wife at the start of 2019 that we could convert the garage into a games room and she seemed very intrigued. By the end of 2019 the building work was finished and in the Black Friday sales I bought the stuff to kit out a lovey playroom while I wondered at what point did my plan get turned around. The gaming table was my consolation prize.

Tonight is happening, 7:30pm start.

Matt, I'm fine with you joining tonight. We can either come up with an in world reason for your arrival and departure or we can hand wave it away, which might be better.

Can you take a look at my player card and tell me what I need to do? I know I don’t have any spells at the moment. What would benefit the party?

Myptik does look a bit like the sort of disreputable person we'd expect to find lurking in a goblin cave, so I think we can just come across him and get on with it.

We finished about 10pm last week. I'm basically free to continue until we hit a good spot though, so no worries about me.

The PHHB suggests:
"mage hand, light, and ray of frost cantrips, along with the following 1st-level spells for your spellbook: burning hands, charm person, feather fall, mage armor, magic missile, and sleep."

If you're not quite sure, I reckon that's a pretty good start. Sleep can be crazy powerful in the right situation.

You have six 1st level spells in your spellbook which you choose from this list.

At the start of each day (after a long rest) you choose four spells which are the ones you have prepared for that day. You cannot use your other spells until you choose them after a long rest as your prepared spells.

Why four per day? It's your spellcasting modifier (Intelligence because your a wizard, so +3), plus you wizard level (you're level 1).

You also know cantrips, these are permanently fixed in your mind so are always available to cast, and don't use spell slots to cast them. The cantrip spell list is here. A level 1 wizard knows 3 cantrips, so you also need to choose these.

I would suggest you have at least one damage dealing 1st level spell and cantrip. DnD Beyond describes the spells in more detail so use that to decide.

When a spell lists a component cost to cast it, you can use either a component pouch or an arcane focus in place of the component when the component doesn't have a monetary cost beside it in the spell listing. If it does, you need to have that item in your inventory and it is consumed during the casting.

I know I'm starting tonights session with empty spell slots and half my hit points gone. So if I suggest anything that remotely puts me in danger before I'm recharged please restrain me.
