There's various contraptions to go on chimney pots to stop this from happening, I thought nearly everyone had these.

I imagine this one burrowed in from below, most likely digging it's way out of the nearby rock dove jail, but surfacing too early.

It actually transferred via osmosis from next door's chimney.

The good thing is that the fireplace that we haven't used for 8 years or so has now been disconnected from the gas supply for good. Lucky, as the engineery man said there were quite a few things that were dangy arse aboot it. So if it happens again I can whip it out and get down to business.

The living room TV is kaput. Annoying, but we're 6 days away from Prime Day so I'm hoping I'll be able to get something cheap from Amazon.

Helen's ill, so I went over to the chippy at the shops near us to get some lunch. On walking back my legs suddenly wouldn't work and I went flying like a horrifically massive lard based tonne of shit. Knee's bleeding quite well.

I dunno :S I went to step up a step but my leg refused to move and the momentum carried me onwards. Then trying to get back up was the same. I was beached like a blubbery whale.

Looks like I have had a water leak, as the toilet has moved.

Is it a big job. The get someone to replace the floor or is it an insurance job?

If it is the connection between the soil pipe and the toilet that is weeping then fairly easy:

Turn water off to toilet, flush it a couple of times, unbolt from floor, pull forward. Pull old connection out, cover the new one in water based lube (don't get any on the toilet lid as you'll lean on it when moving the toilet back, slide off and smash your head on the cabinet), slam it in, push toilet back on to it. Bolt toilet to floor, water on, wait and flush then have a beer. Stick a bit of card under it to test.

I have lifted the vinyl, and the wooden (chipboard) floor is wet, and the pan has moved 10 degrees.

It looked to have broken the pipe (nut) from the cistern to the pan, just replaced it, but I think it will be insurance, as water came into the kitchen.

No, I am waiting to hear from him.

It was another builder, I need a few quotes.

Best it, insurance said, don't touch the ceiling as it is artex, and could have asbestos. Just after I had the ceiling taken down...

I feel like I've been punched in the face, just underneath my right eye. I don't think I have been punched! But my eye socket, cheek bone, and upper jaw are all throbbing.

Assuming I haven't been punched in the face I think it's either a toothache or sinus infection or some weird head cold. Either way I hope it disappears soon! I've had my knee and toe pain soon, that fantasies of amputations are common thoughts, not sure you can amputate half your head!

It is a 1980s house, with artex. In the 80s artex could have contained asbestos. Que the ceiling being tested.

I can see why. Loved this bit, mind, which lets you read it as 'It's a problem, but mostly in the USA.'

Quote:
“Every time you say, especially in the United States, that you are coming from Asbestos, or they read Asbestos on a package, they are always afraid that it will be poison.”

It shouldn't be a problem if they're in good nick, but it might be worth checking if your house insurance covers asbestos removal
