It's been uncut in the UK since the 2010 DVD release. VHS and DVD releases prior to that were cut (and not very professionally at that).

This is one of the DVDs I bought from the States back in the day as I didn't want to get the cut UK version.

EDIT - Although there were no cuts for language.

Ready or Not: super entertaining 94 minutes of black comedy. Well worth it.

True Lies is another one of those films that, if I find it when I'm flicking through the TV channels, I have to watch to the end.

PROJECT POWER, new release on Netflix.

Me and Mrs Hearthly watched it last night.

Decent cheesy fun, fairly interesting premise, bit of a hodge podge of themes and ideas but it moves along at such a clip you won't mind too much. (Probably just as well as it doesn't much stand up to any sort of scrutiny.)

You could do a lot worse for a couple of hours.

Project Power was alright, standard action fair with the budget versions of Denzel and DiCaprio.

Finally watched Gran Torino last night.

Not what I expected at all, but at the same time it was simply brilliant. Absolutely loved every minute.

We watched this. I loved it. I really did. I was fully expecting to think ‘well that was an entertaining bit of rubbish’ but I think the production values (in comparison to something like Sharknado, which yes, I watched) were high enough for me to just really enjoy the ride. I stood in some fossil megalodon jaws for a picture when I was a kid, so I have always been fascinated at the sheer size of the things.

Parasite. Rich people, poor people. But who is the parasite?

Rogue. People. Lions. But which is rogue?

The former is brilliant. And I saw it in a cinema - no idea how many people were in there with me, as my seat was in the front and I didn't turn round. Did get a little misty-eyed during the adverts. Cinema! 100 bananas.

The latter is terrible. Megan Fox plays the lead, an incredibly bad-assed mercenary, with full-character and body not developed, but dropped straight into a raid on some bad guys. You know things are serious when she breaks into a slow jog, and you know she can win any fight despite no obvious muscle tone at all. There are some other characters, but none of them pout at a lion, so who cares?
Among those characters, so you know, is a displaced Brit and a couple of young girls who have to be extra-irritating early on just so they can be obviously seen to learn something from their experience. There's also one who can't even scream convincingly, let alone deliver the clunking dialogue.
It doesn't really earn the right to try and teach you about man's inhumanity to nature, but what you'll learn from it is interesting nonetheless.

Tremendous, rubbish, fun. 75 bananas.

We watched the Italian job with the mini fops this evening. Aside from the occasional casual misogyny, it's a film that has aged incredibly well. A beautiful looking caper.

QUICK REVIEWS:

FREDDY GOT FINGERED - ('Other Sources') - Never seen this before, always had it pegged in my head as a 'grossout comedy' in the vein of American Pie or There's Something About Mary, but it's a far more extreme, satirical and borderline surreal entry in the genre. So funny I was crying with laughter at a couple of scenes. 87 minutes along so doesn't overstay its welcome. 730/1000

THE DEAD - (Amazon Prime) - Low budget zombie apocalypse film set in Africa, very much a 'paint by numbers' entry in the genre in some regards, but elevated by its setting and a solid understanding of what makes a decent zombie flick work. 775/1000

THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME - (Netflix) - Grim tale of interconnecting lives in post WW2 American leading through to the Vietnam years. The Devil All the Time's descent into darkness can be harrowing to the point of punishment, but it's offset by strong work from a stellar cast. 770/1000

There's a good analysis of it here, I watched this before I watched the film (I love RedLetterMedia's stuff), and was sufficiently intrigued to give it a go.

Objectively it's not a great film (although as noted in the review linked below, it does have a proper story and character arc), but by fuck some of the sequences are funny and enter the realms of the surreal.

Just watched Tenet. A solid 9/10.

I really enjoyed it and kept me hooked all the way though.

Very clever use of ‘time’ and the effects were really good.

I don’t want to spoil it, but worth a watch.

Hello, please help me remember what this film is called as I’ve seen it about 200 times, then it comes on TV and I think I must watch it as it’s a classic until I realise it’s that same film. Again.

There’s a man, he’s on the run for, I think, being falsely accused of a crime. He gets a train. He goes to Scotland. Rents a room in a woman’s cottage b&b. Gets found out, chased. Black and white, I think. Really famous.

That’s it. Thanks, MarkG. I keep thinking it’s North By Northwest and when I Googled the synopsis earlier I couldn’t find anything.

I put pretty specific search data into Google trying to work it out (or so I thought) but there were no suggestions. Mind you, most of the results were from
the Scottish Tourist Board.

For some reason I always thing ‘The 39 Steps’ has something to do with Grand Central Station, but I think I’m thinking of the film with the baby buggy that goes down the staircase.

Commando is 35.

Anyhow, that is a well and good BUT BUT BUT the sequel ("Commando 2") was written and ended up being Die Hard.

I watched some things...

Cannibal Holocaust - Not much to recommend here. Totally deserving of a ban at the time.

Mortal Kombat Legends - More blood and gore than Cannibal Holocaust but in cartoon form! It tells the story of the original Mortal Kombat story and is really good. I enjoyed this one.

American Murder: The family next door - I don't normally go for things like this and indeed just ended up watching it because I couldn't be bothered to move rooms. Absolutely chilling story of a man who's wife and kids go missing. Made all the more real with how much of her life was shared via social media.

I watched A Girl In The Spider's Web at the weekend. I quite like the original trilogy of films but this was insulting nonsense. Alarm bells started to ring when Stephen Merchant's character says that the software he developed that can access the world's nuclear launch codes is a '2725 byte piece of software' and that it can only be moved and not copied. And of course...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
super-hacker Lisbeth proceeds to steal in the very next scene but ends up leaving a trace of the theft back to her.

The best Die Hard fact: The first person who was asked to play John McLane was... 70 year old Frank Sinatra!

,( The book Die Hard was based on was a sequel to a book that was adapted years and years before with Sinatra in the lead role, contractually he had to be given first refusal)

Similarly, Sylvester Stallone was the original lead for Beverly Hills Cop and production actually got quite far before he left the project (and he ended up using a lot of the ideas that he had for BHC in Cobra)

I genuinely can't imagine what Beverly Hills Cop would have been like without Eddie Murphy, let alone with Sly in the lead role.

I’ve not watched a single trailer deliberately since the seemingly 15-min Iron Man one that showed pretty much everything that happened apart from some exposition.
