Thanks, now I'm getting eBay notifications asking if I'm still interested in a giant Sonic head :DD

:D The seller offered it for £80 yesterday and if I actually had somewhere to put it, I'd have probably ended up buying it.

That reminds me.. a general tip for those who buy stuff from eBay: If you see something with a Buy It Now price that is a little too expensive, add it to your watch list. More and more sellers seem to be pushing out offers to people who are watching their items and there can often be good savings to be made.

Had a Retro Duo Portable arrive today. Plays original SNES cartridges and with the included adapter, also plays NES games. As you can see, it does make it a little tall though:

Ha! I've been thinking of getting one of those too! I'm going to be back in for two days a week in October, but it will be to do the practical stuff that I can't do from home.

but the vendor has just called to say they're no longer available and I'm waiting for their offer of an alternative.

Update: They offered a Sennheiser alternative that cost more, for the same price, but it looked flimsy to me, so I got a refund.

Then I contacted a repair place to see if they could replace the battery of the one I've already got. NB the only reason I was buying a new one was that the one I've had for over five years now runs flat after half a day, even on standby. They quoted 25 smackers plus P+P and they've done a superb job on it, including a new charging case and cable. The headset itself look brand new, so they've done more than just change the battery.

I've bought a PC Engine mini and while I've not technically bought it, I've acquired a nail gun.

It was in my dad's work shed and it's never been used. I'm looking for things that need nailing down now.

I think we've got that nail gun (although I don't remember the word PRO being slapped across the box). I've used it to attach bits of wood to other bits of wood. HTH.

Not true. Don't you remember seeing ads for toys when you were younger, and immediately thinking "Wow! I want that!!" without even knowing what it did or how useless it actually was, just because it looked cool?

I think that is the purpose of the thread.

Just got a new phone! A Pixel 4A. It's Google's low end model and the most expensive phone I've ever had by a considerable margin. Got a good deal, only a tenner more than I was paying for my sim-only but with more data and a £50 Curry's voucher. I don't have a photo of it but if you can picture a black rectangle then it looks like that.

I've got the 4a today too, to replace my Pixel 2 (which is going to my daughter for her birthday in Nov).

Not expecting it to be a dramatic improvement on the 2, but for the price (I bought it outright) & saving me having to think of what to buy sprog #1, it's a no brainer :D

It seems really nice, the camera is a huge upgrade over my old phone and that was my second most important consideration after how cheap is it.

Wow, fancy! I want a biscuit jointer!! I think woodworking and cabinet making will be my hobby when I retire. I need a decent workshop space though, our garage is too spidery.

I have a biscuit jointer already. That Lamello is quite a bit more than a biscuit jointer though and you could buy a biscuit jointer (a decent one) for a couple of hundred.
IMO if you can stretch to it, I'd suggest a Festool domino jointer — the DF500 is everything you will need and far more versatile than any biscuit jointer. The principal issue with biscuiting, particularly when doing dry fitting (where you test assemble without glue to check the piece works) is that the larger the piece, the more likely it is to fall apart as the joints are so shallow. The domino jointing system will hold together even when dry, which makes glueing up even easier. And the final joints are stronger.

https://www.axminstertools.com/festool- ... 10v-102317
It always pay to shop around for power tools. Axminster are OK but there are cheaper places out there.

14" CRT TV/DVD combo. Bought for testing/playing light gun games. The tiny CRT I bought last year is just too small to properly test guns as they aim was always a little off and I couldn't be sure if the gun or the TV was the problem.

(and yes, I know Metal Slug isn't a gun game, but the Supergun was already on the table so I figured I'd try it out on that)

They crop up on eBay quite a bit (which is where I got mine), but very few people are prepared to post them, so I had to wait around for one that offered delivery. It cost me £45 including postage in the end which wasn't bad considering. They used to turn up very cheapy on local FB groups or gumtree as people just want someone to pick them up, but less so now it seems.

Yeah, we’ve got a 28” Trinitron in the garage, no room for it in the house - yet.

If you're not fussed about cosmetic condition, this is a cheap one which I would have bought instead if it had been listed sooner.

I just watched the demo video for the Lamello. Orbviously, it’s not something I’m ever likely to need, but I’m impressed by the ingenuity of it. If my son saw it, he’d probably want it even if he had no use for it.
