My broadband was not getting above 40 meg, BT openreach have been out.. Re cabled to the house, it has jumped to 64. Apparently the cable and socket was 30 years old and obsolete.

I have a double yay!

After I kicked my ex out I ran up about £8000 worth of debt - mostly from house related stuff and bills related to buying him out of the mortgage etc but also partly from "woo, I'm finally free, I can do things" splurges.

One of my goals for this year was to finish paying off that debt and have been chipping away it where possible. Despite my income being down (homeschooling eating into my time rather than decrease on demand) I've kept this up during lockdown and was ready to make the final payment this week.

When I rang the bank they told me that because of the over-payments the final payment would be about £300 less than I thought it was going to be. So win one: keeping £300 unexpectedly! Win two: mentally, I now have complete financial freedom from the knob! Yay!

(Now just to pay off my credit card :DD )

Fantastic news Jem, especially on breaking that tie.

And on the money bit, too.

Nice little bonus, too, Zoidbrrg

Jealous. It’s so bloody humid in Wales and routinely 15c at night. I had my feet under the cold tap at 1am last night trying to cool down. Except the cold water wasn’t cold

Got BT coming on 17th to run fibre to the house. £29.99 a month for 150mbps, only a fiver a month more than the 12-on-a-good-day we've been putting up with so far. Nicely timed to coincide with Flight Simulator 2020.

30 estimated and 10 minimum, 100 minimum download as well. Can't wait. It was tempting to get the even faster one but we've just no need for it I don't think.

Excellent :)

Mine won't be paid off till December 2021, so still some way to go for me, but since May 2017, I've paid of £27k in gambling debt, so I'm getting there.

I'm still waiting for the 300 package to be installed. I ordered in June. 2019*.

But it's allegedly definitely going to have happened by the end of October - and at least the poles and fibre from distribution pole to local pole are in now.

I too, somehow, decided against the 500 and 900 upper tiers.

* I didn't, I ordered the 300 package in June this year, by it's my third ftth order since June last year.

Yeah, mine got delayed too. The holdup was because nobody could be arsed to run the bit of fibre from the pavement to the outside of the house. That's done now and the someone is apparently coming on 16th October to drill a hole in our wall and plug in a modem at the other side, if they can be arsed.

They're properly terrible with their communications, though. My current provider had taken the September date as the date to disconnect us. I had nothing at all from BT to say it wasn't going to be done in time. It was only because I guessed it probably wasn't and spent an hour on the phone to see if everything was still going ahead as planned that I wasn't cut off. All the people at BT I spoke to were lovely and did their best but it's a right fucking shambles.

I've been speaking directly to a level 2 contract fixer-upper at openreach because BT are fucking useless. She's been great.

Meanwhile the BT order tracker just uselessly said "an engineer will be with you today!" Since june. They've not actually given me any update at all.

All those claims that BT and openreach are still not maintaining the right break is pretty hard to believe with the complete shitshow I've suffered for more than a year.

Ring them up - they announced reselling the openreach product where cityfibre don't cover a week or two back, but they hadn't updated the website checker.

Just had a letter from the HMRC. I have over paid tax, and am due £80

Plus the £2500 I am hopefully getting for my car insurance.

Means I can clear my credit card and loan. Which will be awesome.

Plus my Iva comes off my credit file in November.
