The circuit board nonchalantly leaning against the side of the case is a nice touch,

That reminds me of all the crazy electronics projects my older brothers used to do when we all still lived with my parents.

Of course, the one I remember the most is the MIDI interface that he built me for my A1200, that I never really used.

I need something like this. I will ESPECIALLY need it whenever I finally get round to converting the garage to a smokery.

I’ve made a storage unit for my 7” records out of a pack of oak flooring that was left in the garage when we moved in. 2 boards joined were just under 9” wide and apart from the top section and some tongue* there was no cutting!

There are loads of great storage solutions (thanks Ikea!) for 12” records but for 7” theres only a few sellers on eBay making MDF units. This has saved me about £100 if I’d have gone that route.

My intention was to run some beading round the edge to finish it off but I’m sure now the records are in that’ll never happen now :)

PVA, well, a scenic modelling type that I had to hand. More than enough to hold it together once the pieces were tapped together. They were left overnight to dry.

I got a 70s turntable. I really need to sort the tracking, as I reckon it would sound grand when it's done.

At present it's merely a very hipster ornament.

The kids and I have made a birdbox from the "one board birdbox" plans. I think the wood I used was a bit THICC but it turned out ok. Haven't done any woodwork in donkeys years.

Nah, this year's birds will clean out the worst of stuff and next year's tenants will clean out properly. We've got more than half a dozen birdboxes knocking around the garden, never clean them out and get new nests every years. The only one that doesn't isn't properly fixed so bangs about in the wind

I was doing gentle pruning of a Holly last weekend and came across a robin nest so stopped. 4 eggs in it.

None in it this weekend :'(

My Oak front door is looking weathered. What is a good clear Finish?

Edit - I have googled and it just confused me.

Right, but what do expert sites recommend? Pick one of those. It’s clear varnish for Pete’s sake.

It might be a good opportunity to freshen it up with a new colour if you fancied it? I've just done that, I'll post pictures on Saturday.

If you do want to just varnish it, I've heard really good things about Cuprinol, but not used it myself. @dbsnappa might have some good advice and experience with this sort of thing. :)

Not sure any of this is necessary, chaps. I'm sure we can all just get along, and some small posts asking for recommendations is hardly going to break the forum.

Don't forget the overriding forum rule.

I just responded in kind.

If he put effort into the questions or asked specific questions like “I’ve looked at these three types of clear varnish (links here) and can’t decide. I want a matt finish and only want to pay £10 or less” it would be fine. I’d be much more willing to help.

But we have to tease out the information from his question which lacks any kind of information and basically do all the work for him. It’s using us as lazy google.

Cheers, I had a look, and some sites say, a stain and many layers of beeswax, which seems a lot of work. I know varnishes can crack as it has.

I like the oak door, but it is looking weathered, and as the weather is nice. I thought I would tidy it up

Or some one could say, I have just done a project and this i recommend.

It is a oak door, I don't want to do cheap, as it kinda key to my house security. Next time i will add a more detailed question..

There are clear stains, varnishes, yacht varnish, waxes, water and oil treatments, and as many info sites, with conflicting information.

I responded to the 'for fucks sake' if you did not like the question scroll on.
