I've not played CoD in three months or so, and mine updated during the day. People that play it often had to do it themselves

Only if you leave your PC on and have Steam running all the time surely? Also, doesn't the PS4 wake itself up and auto-patch games if you've got PS+? Or am I making that up?

It only works if you put your PS4 in Rest Mode for some reason. It’s kinda baffling.

Not sure about having PS+ though - I think the PS3 had to have this to auto update but I’m not sure about the PS4.

You don’t need PS+

I assure you my CoD install did have to download an update - 70 GB of it. My PC had been asleep so hadn’t done it in the background. I later discovered that battle.net doesn’t prevent the PC from sleeping while it is downloading, so once I started it, it got interrupted and had to resume.

On the other hand it was way faster than PSN can manage, both the download and the installation of the patch.

Finally with the update released last week I've been able to play this.

Best one since Ghosts IMO. Love the diversity in play styles too.

7 gig download patch tonight - probably a new camo for the crossbow :-)

And my machine downloaded it reasonably quickly - however has spent the last 30 minutes 'copying' it and is currently at 65%

So some definite weirdness in this - we spotted it in a game last night and then it happened a few times in games tonight

The other team were camping , but camping in slightly odd spots - almost as if someone had given them a guide saying 'go to this spot here and crouch down and wait for people to cross your line of sight'

When you killed them - they then just laser focused went exactly back to that same camping spot - so much so if you hung around you could kill them again and again

And on bigger maps the camp spots were not linked to the objectives at all

Bots ?

And Riles - this is the post i found about those UCD long number strings for usernames

Annoying video but the gist is:

Battle Royale mode
It’s Free 2 Play for everyone
If you die you go to the Gulag and have a 1v1. Win and you’ll respawn back in the game. Die and you’re gone.

So the download will be around 20 gig for current players and I have a feeling it will probably want it downloaded (so you can get the brand new cut scene) before you can play the normal game.

So battle royal game modes

1) Play the game - get shot - one chance for a respawn and thats it - when your in a party you can spectate the other player in their battle if you both dead at the same time

2) Collect loot and send it off via heli or special balloons - respawn as much as you want but you lose money each death

I hit basically the same problems i get with all these games - its massive map - lots of players (150) - and either the place is empty so your slowly going through buildings and scavenging stuff which is all much of a muchness or you hit a group of enemies and are killed

I get the missions and other stuff is suppose to make it interesting but i've never really got the point of these - even watching streams at least part of it seems to be hide for a long time and then just take out the last few others - it feels dull

Or am I missing something ?

Are you playing on your own? Are you talking to your team? Are you coordinating who covers what angles? Are you watching each other’s back? Are you making call outs to your team mates? Are you sharing plates? Are you coordinating drop points? Are you coordinating your next move, the next plan of attack? Contact, two teams, no, we gotta go, they’re firing, I’ll hold them, you move, shout me when your clear, covering me, moving, up to the yellow house, mine the entrance, contact right, push up etc.

I was playing with one other person (Bobby) - we were talking but not covering that details and if that's what you need to do then i can see people doing that for a few rooms / buildings and giving up just due to the sheer size of the map

On the first game of Battle royal we didn't see another player for a good 5 or 6 minutes - and remember this is COD so a few bursts from an AR will down you if you are wearing Armour (and lots of sniper rifles are one hit kills)

The likelihood of a fight will always depend on your drop. Higher loot areas will attract the most players and low loot areas will attract less. If you want a fight, do a high risk drop. If you want to get your bearings and have a casual loot, go out of the way somewhere. A good pair of cans are essential for listening to footsteps and finding loot crates, and I think improve these BRs immensely.

My biggest issue yesterday was the net code was terrible, enemy players stuttering all over the place when we first dropped and trades were 50/50 whether you’d win. The best we did yesterday was 11th place.

Only 11th with a professional soldier on your team dragging you through? That’s pretty pathetic

They've had issues with the patches. Especially on PC. I had to redownload 83 gig just for warzone.

Yes it is (Riles created it) - I saw you online on Saturday I think and sent the invite (you were showing as online but not joinable)

Benefits of being in a clan that i can see so far :

Gold clan tag (but it will have to be BEEX)
1 hour double XP every day (currently set for 21:30 UK time)

Yeah I'm on PC, but I think I had a full squad for most of Saturday. Haven't tried the cross platform in a party though. I wonder how the chat works, since I use discord when playing.

You have to use the in-game audio, obv. It's OK once you get the settings right (turn off the naff synthesised voice effects and crank the voice volume slider way up or you'll never hear it over game effects.) Also if you don't want to hear randos, you need the "only friends" or "only in party" settings, but you need to make sure everyone you do want to hear is either a friend or in your party.

These settings did have an annoying habit of changing themselves back, hopefully that's fixed now.

The annoying thing will be push to talk. But I guess it's just something to get used to. Or find a binding on the mouse that isn't too annoying.

It's the best in years, but not as good as MW2.

Do you have a PS4? You should get it on that.

Every time shipment comes up someone says that

In the custom playlists there was 24x7 shipment (so just that map in multiple game modes) , shoot the ship (shipment and shoothouse only) and another one that i've forgotten that was shipment / shoothouse and something else.

Playing a few rounds of shipment is the quickest way to :
Gain gun XP to unlock stuff
Gain kills of most types for gun camo (other than longshots)
Gain battle pass XP

And totally mess up your KD ratios :-)

it can be *very* very chaotic and the 'spawn / die before you've even took a step' can get annoying at times but it works and if it was still a map option my choice would be to always end on a round of Shipment :-)

@bobbyaro for the 'new' shotgun you need to :

Play 15 matches using a shotgun with 5 attachments and get at least 7 kills with it

So any time shipment comes up thats a good choice - when you first unlock it and it has nothing it is really hard to hit and kill with it but I've just got to the point where I can just point and go boom

There's a playlist of different game modes now free for everyone. So I got to try out the normal multiplayer. It's fun! Great way to level up guns too for warzone. I did die a lot though

I made the mistake of playing the multiplayer trial last night, I forgot hom much I love proper CoD multi. (Warzone is alright, but I'm not really a Fan of Battle Royales, Apex was good fun-ish.) Might get the full game. Is the campaign any good?

Yeah last update they did died on me about 20 times. Gave up for the night and then restarted it the next morning. I shouldn't have to babysit an update. But, the game is fun though.
