Yvette Cooper as next Labour leader at 14/1 looks ok.

I'd support Keir Starmer. He probably deserves it based on his performance over the past couple of years.

I'd be fairly happy with either of them. Or Jess Phillips or David Lammy.

I'm a middle aged, middle class, London centric, highly paid, straight, white male, I should be happy with this result, but I'm distraught. What the fuck.

On the one hand it shows that outside our echo chamber the country is more fucked than we realise and maybe we should pop our heads out a bit more, but on the other hand I don't want to go outside my echo chamber, it's the only sane place it seems.

Seriously tempted to give up on the internet again for a bit, it's not going to be a healthy place to be for a while...

You must have a really sound echo chamber, I've honestly not been particularly surprised by anything that's happened since the referendum was announced.

Labour held here (Walsall South) but with a much narrower margin than of recent elections.

Walsall seems split in half, where the North always vote Con, and the South always vote Labour.

I was jesting, a little. But really I have 1,000+ Twitter followers, about the same on IG, and I haven’t seen one person pro-Tory or Brexit. The closest I know is that post from yesterday from an ex colleague not knowing which of the two main parties to vote for.

The thing is, most of my contacts are women in my demographic and artisans, and they tend to be Liberal and left in outlook and politics. I only have two ex colleagues as contacts, and as for family. Well, the members of my family I’m in contact with all voted Labour, and while I suspect a couple of Russell’s extended family might have voted Conservative perhaps, they are also of the generation and manner that they would never say they were voting Conservative (whether due to them being the shy Tory vote or whatever). So, I think unless you go digging around on local community boards and similar it can still get very buried.

I deliberately and purposely went out of my way to look for ant-Labour and pro-Brexit people to get out of my bubble and I'm still surprised by exactly HOW big a majority the Cons ended up with. :(

I don't really do social media, it's not a good idea for me, though I am on Facebook. I'd say 95% of my friends are either like me (centrist-left) or left. So I am in an echo-chamber, but it's a pretty big one of 400 or so.

However reading the signs (namely a complete inability for objective thought amongst the British public) I was pessimistic about today, and emotionally prepared myself for a marginal Tory win. I was not prepared for a landslide, which is now further fuelling my persecution complex that the universe REALLY hates me.

I would like to iterate however that I love all of you. And will be spending more time on here from now on, rather than the cold embrace of photography forums.

Proud of Nottingham. Tiny dot of red in a sea of blue across the East Midlands. All three areas brought back Labour MPs including my constituency of Nottingham East which now has a 23yo woman of colour serving.

Literally 100yds up the road in Gedling the Tories have ousted Vernon Coaker who has been the Labour MP there since the times of D:Ream.

Plans to move to Scotland move up the priority list.

Along with Zac Goldsmith, these kinds of appointments so soon after an election make it that bit harder to maintain support for an unreformed upper house.

I never really understood why the pound spiked in the first place. We seem to have gone from "Brexit uncertainty is causing the pound to suffer" to "Ah, no more uncertainty! We're definitely screwed!"

It spiked because some trader decided he "Liked" Boris at the moment, other traders didn't want to be left out and ticked "Like" as well. Now that they've all recovered from their hangovers, they've come to the horrible realisation of what's likely to happen, and "Unliked" again.

Never sure whether these day to day fluctuations actually mean anything. Seems someone points to one where it backs their stance then says fuck all when it's back where it was two days later.
