Yesterday I decided to give some of the Famicom carts and disks a whirl on the Twin Famicom. It's certainly an odd machine, but well put together. With some of the disk games, you actually have to turn the disk over halfway through.. not sure if that's because the games don't fit on one side (Super Mario Bros. is on one side for instance) or that it writes saved games on the B side maybe.

I only realised yesterday that the second controller has no select/start buttons but a microphone instead and in Legend of Zelda, the microphone is used to kill the Pols Voice creatures who hate loud noises. I realised that this stuff is probably obvious to people who play a lot of Zelda games, but I didn't know that Nintendo were doing quirky little things like that way back on their earliest consoles.

I mostly played Thanksgiving cooking [IRL] and a tiny bit of GPU Upgrade To 2070 Super Faffing About [also IRL] but I did manage to play the first hour or so of Disco Elysium [PC]. And what an opening it was; I can see why people have been raving about it. It's funny, it's fantastically well-written, it's innovative (how refreshing to see an RPG where you shouldn't and sometimes even can't just hit every dialog choice!), and it's deeply, deeply stylish (both in art and the text.) I can also see why people were saying that after playing this, The Outer Worlds (for all its polish) feels a little... flat.

She's not really bothered with it unless her cousin comes round then they both jump together in a dangerous manner

Halo Reach has recently come out on the PC as part of the Master Chief collection. It's available via Game pass as well which is why I installed it the other night.

It took me a few goes to get it going (because PC gaming obviously) but the game is great. Probably my favourite in the Halo series.

Audio was all muffled for me, seems to be a common problem. And yeah, wouldn't launch through the game pass window but worked from the start menu.

I'm off work with the i-didnt-use-all-my-holiday-this-year-itis so it's disco elysium for me this afternoon, but first it's sausage and egg mcmuffin, followed by Joker in an empty cinema.

I had exactly the same problems starting it but the audio seemed OK to me. I didn't have it very loud as the kids were in bed but I'll take another look tonight.

Still a great game though. I rarely go back to games once I've conoleted them but I'll make an exception here.

I conoleted it back in the day. Want to play it again, but single player halo blows compared to coop.

Struggling to think of a single player fps in recent years I've liked enough to even conolete in the first place. (apart from doom which were awesome)

I tried wolfenstein after doom. Didn't grab me. After not too long I put it on the list to return to at some point.

I played one of the new Wolfensteins and thought it was great but then played the next one too soon and couldn't get into it.

Starting with no weapons and a wheel chair was a real bind too. That put me right off.

I tried Detroit being human but it was a bit boring, so i played a bit of Modern Warfare remastered, then some more baseball.

My body is an awesome temple now.

Giphy "helloooooo ladies":
https://media3.giphy.com/media/NwkYPLmQSLmhy/giphy-loop.mp4

So I’ve been playing some Wii Fit for the yoga stuff. The cool thing is I can use the WiiU and play in glorious 480p via HDMI (and just the Wii remote too; you don’t need that ridiculous pad). The not so cool thing was that I’d left the batteries in everything so battery juice had sluced its way onto the connectors and I spent 30 minutes cleaning them down so the remote and the Wii Fit board would finally work. Further not cool stuff, man alive it takes ages to unlock all the exercises. 2 days in and I’ve clocked up an hour of time and not even half of the exercises and stuff.

Tiny levels and huge load times put stop to that game for me.

The first of the reboots was great though.

I remembered how much I enjoyed assassin's creed 2, and the one that came after that was kinda alright but lacked a lot of the charm I felt, and it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.... and I realised I never finished Ezio's story. So I downloaded the 'Ezio Collection' so I could play that third and final part and then remembered it's all about that chump Desmond. Bah. I'd forgotten how much stuff the game throws at you (buy buildings, renovate something, recruit then send da bros on missions, read text about stuff [actually I quite enjoy learning about the landmarks and history of the city], climb the things, find the stuff, control the territory and build the sekrit club houses) but it's still quite good fun running over the rooftops and performing cool assassination moves.

I've had a few odd glitches, including falling off a wall while being chased and getting stuck on the pavement in the falling animation while the guards kicked me to death. All up, I almost wish I hadn't bothered and I think I'll whiz through the main story just to get it over with. It still seems a bit too easy to just charge in and murder everyone up instead of using the bomb crafting crap that I didn't really pay attention to.

So, um, 6 out of 10 maybe

First I played Upgrading to an RTX 2070 Super (PC): which was "fun", in the sense I had to do some cable re-routing to make room for it, then later fun, in the sense that now all my games run really well.

Then I played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (PC). I'm not much of a guy for online competitive shooters, by and large, mostly because I'm not that good and I don't like being endlessly spawn-camped / sniped from half a mile away by someone I never saw. The curmudgeon in me can't shake the idea that the whole genre peaked with Unreal Tournament 2004. But somehow, CoD:MW has gotten under my skin.

My online gaming group all got into this a few weeks ago, but I held out until I got a copy free with my new GPU when I thought I might as well give it a whirl. And to my surprise, I'm enjoying it! I've logged about four hours into MP so far and I'm having a good time. The progression curve is certainly deep - perhaps too deep; I have no idea why each of the ~25 guns needs 5-10 different options for each of 3-5 attachment points. Nevertheless, I am having fun tweaking guns to my playstyle, and vice versa. Proper cross-play is also mildly impressive: I'm on PC, my friends are on PS4, and we can still play together! Shocking. It's not perfect but it works better than I would have thought.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it can be played in single as it's split screen.

Not 100% sure but I do know only one of you needs to buy it.

Modern Warfare Remastered: Single player is bloody amazing. The first level remains one of the best first levels ever and it gets better and better. Death From Above is still madly cold and calculating and the nuclear bomb just went off. And faster load times means even more dakka dakka dakka.

Ended up doing a 3 hour session on Metro Exodus with RT last night.

It's the only ray traced game I've played so far that isn't a double edged sword.

What I mean is by enabling RTX it actually looks better without the grain and jaggedness of the other titles I've tried. Control looks kinda weird with RT on. Better in ways, yet worse due to the step back in clarity.

Metro on the other hand just looks better.

Just completed The Last Of Us.

I'm on top of the world right now woop!!

Perfectly sets me up for the second one :D

I put a few hours into this but got a bit bored and moved on to something a bit more exciting. Maybe I should go back to it when I need a break from OTT action

It's the only game that I've used stealth in and had to really think hard about how to tackle it. It's incredibly satisfying when you pull it off too.

However its the constant change that makes it so amazing. Every new section is like a mystery. I could be trying one tactic for an hour, only to get frustrated and turn it off. Then the next play with a clear head makes me think and boom, I worked it out.

It was just about tough enough for me too. The hardest game I ever had to complete was Rare's DK64 (100% everything) and whilst this wasn't anywhere near as tough it does have parts that require close to perfect maneuverng to pull off. And that's when you get that super feeling of satisfaction.

Then there's the wonderful story, characters and at times graphics. It's beautiful.

I’m playing the sequel to the Unfinished Swan...Untitled Goose.

It’s on Game Pass and you’ll be thanking your lucky stars that you didn’t get swept up in the internet buzz and paid actual money because, well, it’s pretty bloody dull. It’s cute, I’ll give it that, and there’s some funny moments but, man alive, it ain’t much of a game.
