The only issue with fire is that there is a perk to basically stop it hurting - I've switched around between fire / smoke / gas / claymores / and throwing knifes and all have their place

Fire is good :-)
Knives are useful when you take someone on 1-on-1 and other than bashing them with the shield is the only way you'll get a kill while holding a hardpoint or headquarters while having the shield unless your swapping to your second weapon and have the shield on your back for protection
Smoke is good to hide in - they shoot away and do no damage so come into the smoke to try and find you and you bash them on the head with the shield
Claymores are good to walk around and lead people towards while your behind the sheild
Gas is good to deter people from points (although again there is a perk to limit it)

At the moment on my shield class i have smoke / knives / the perk to replenish knives so i dont need to go find them and the one to give me two primary weapons so I have an LMG to shoot with while i'm running to the next point

15 gig download for 'season 2' - so if you want to play it make sure your system is auto downloading it in the background or turn it on early to grab it

Right some quick things :

Levels above 55 are reset back to 55 (you could only get to 155 before which is what i was on - I'm back to 55)
New maps - not played shipment but there is a Crash 24x7 playlist so you can play that and it has a few new areas bolted on
A messy looking season pass / buying option in the game now - pay with coins (not cash) for it to unlock stuff or keep playing to unlock it anyway seems to be the message but its unclear and messy

New game mode which i quite like - Reinforce = 4v4 - if you get shot you are out (*) - everyone on your team dies - end of round - there are the 3 normal domination points - hold all 3 at once you win - if you capture one when people are down they are back in the game - quite fast paced and definitely worth a look

If you'd like to see how the new mode plays :

And my best play of the night was the 10 seconds between 8:43 and 8:53 when i took down their whole team :-)

So if anyone playing this has really horrible crackly sound on chat its not just the rubbish network its a choice that's on by default (!)

To change it go to options / audio and its right at the very bottom change it to no / off

:-)

I just checked the recording from last night and its called 'Stealth Comms' for no f*cking reason - yes if you want to play on Ps4 with other Ps4 players its all fine and crystal clear
Once you add in cross play it turns a bloody stupid option on to make it sound like everyone is on a voicemike and radio from the late 80's

I don't think it’s directly related to crossplay, I think it (by default) affects all in-game chat on all clients. Or at least, Reddit says so. But you’ve been using party chat until now, and so avoided it until I joined in.

Playing CoD cross-platform without hating yourself

aka Doc is a pain the arse and is playing on PC so now everyone has to do something different

In the game options

Under Audio:
1) set "Voice Chat" to "Mute Everyone Except Party" (or possibly "Mute Everyone Except Friends" - but that seems worse)
2) Voice Chat Recording Mode -> Open Mic
3) Voice Chat Volume -> maybe 150% or more; otherwise the game drowns out the voice
4) Voice Chat Effect -> None (otherwise voice chat will sound shit)

Under Account:
1) Crossplay: Enabled
2) Friend Request & Party Invite Notifications: Enabled

Then there's some friends list nonsense. We need to all be friends with each other through the Activision accounts. Go into the Multiplayer section and hit Triangle to load the Social screen.

1) This has a Party tab, with up to 20 players in it. Each Party has a leader (gets a crown icon) who selects game modes etc.
2) It also has a Friends tab. You can send and receive friend requests in here.

Accepting a Friend invite:
1) Multiplayer
2) Press Triangle for the social screen
3) Select "Add Friend"
4) Select "Friend Requests"
5) Go to "Received Requests" -> "Activision"
6) Accept the request

Sending a Friend invite:
1) Multiplayer
2) Press Triangle for the social screen
3) Select "Add Friend"
4) Enter a friend's name, either their Activision ID or PSN ID (my Activision ID is "penllawen")
5) Send the request

@cras

If that does not work go to the 2:00:50 mark and watch the top left hand corner to watch the guy walk down the stairs in front of you that you 'didnt see' :-)

I think the thing was since most of the rest of us were dead and we all saw him we all shouted out :-)

(it is compressed on youtube so I'll claim it was still clearer on the big screen in front of me at the time)

In answer to bobbys question last night the 3 orange boxes that sometimes show up are a signal of lag

Pretty sure we realised it was glitches last night that were responsible for our deaths.

Update today so turn your system on before you want to play (10 gig download - i bet it takes about 20 minutes and then spends an hour 'copying' :-( )

And those asking about the addons for the gun I'm using :

New game modes

Gun game on docks with snowballs only
Drop zone (capture an area and care packages drop the longer you hold it - sure its a repeat from an earlier game)
and
"Shoot the Ship" - all game modes but only on Shipment or Shoot house

I think it was @curiosity who was asking about burst fire guns - although the only one with burst by default is the FR5.5 virtually any AR can have burst fire enabled by adding it as a perk - it works best for this with a high fire rate worth having a play around with.

If your machine is not set to automatically update when you turn it on you will get

A 13 gig patch

Which when you start it up then says your missing dlc and need to download that which is another 12.5 gig patch and a 9 gig patch

So around 35 gig of a download in total :-(

Nice

New update has added a clan system which ApplepieofDensity has setup - if you dont have an invite message him - extra XP when playing with anyone in the clan and a "Happy hour" each day for even more XP

I have bought the season 2 battlepass , with the COD coins I got from playing the Season 1 pass

We played some gun game in a private match on the new map and its enormous !

(new map match starts around 1hr 52)

That’s so fucking annoying. I leave it on to download the big 51 Gb, arrange with my mate to play and then turn it on the next day; get to the menu and it wants me to download another 9 gig DLC. What a load of wank.

Steam just silently updates all my games in the background and they’re good to go when I want to play. None of this download 50GB patch nonsense. Graphics drivers are usually optional unless there’s some kind of drastic problem with an earlier version which I can’t say I’ve come across.

Only if you leave your PC on and have Steam running all the time surely? Also, doesn't the PS4 wake itself up and auto-patch games if you've got PS+? Or am I making that up?

No, on pc you'd need a 750meg driver update to go with it

Steam just silently updates all my games in the background and they’re good to go when I want to play. None of this download 50GB patch nonsense. Graphics drivers are usually optional unless there’s some kind of drastic problem with an earlier version which I can’t say I’ve come across.

Only if you leave your PC on and have Steam running all the time surely? Also, doesn't the PS4 wake itself up and auto-patch games if you've got PS+? Or am I making that up?

It only works if you put your PS4 in Rest Mode for some reason. It’s kinda baffling.

Not sure about having PS+ though - I think the PS3 had to have this to auto update but I’m not sure about the PS4.

It sort of does this sometimes according to a complex set of rules that only Sony understand. If you want to boot it up and play a game that your friends are about to play, it will not have done so, for reasons.
