Oh yes there's a fucking RIDICULOUS difficulty spike right at the end that the game doesn't prepare for you at all, I got through the fight in the end but it took me about 20 attempts.

Not my experience at all:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I got all the way through the Hope and then Tarturus on a mixture of stealth attacks, the cloaking device, and cover from allies showing up to fight for me. I never came under fire. When I got to the RAM robot, I hacked it to turn it off and never had to fight it. Although reading more stuff since, if I'd done the final conversation with Sophia differently, she might never have activated it at all.

It helped a lot that, late on, I respec'd my character and carefully jiggled my stats, perks, gear, and companions to hit 100s in lockpicking, hacking, persuade, and lie, and 80+ in most of the other skills that gate dialog choices. That opened up a lot of non-combat options for me in the lategame.

Ahhh right I never bothered with a respec, which I probably should have done because some dialogue/hacking choices weren't available to me towards the end of the game.

TBH though, I was cruising through the game so easily it never much occurred to me that it might be a worthwhile idea, and then yes, the fight that you spoilered above was a right arsehole to do in that I had to do the actual fight. It was way, WAY beyond anything the game had chucked at me up until that point.

Anyway, there's loads of stuff I want to try in my second playthrough, and that'll be on HARD difficulty. (SUPERNOVA looks a bit too batshit for my taste.)

Oh yes, and praise the lord for a proper saving and loading system, including F5/F9 quicksave/quickload, makes such a positive difference to the experience for me. Checkpointing can fuck right off.
