My first car was a '63 Austin Mini. It was a hoot to drive.

That's a point... Why do car stereos have so many wires? Even before they did all the fancy stuff they do now, they still had a shit load of wires.

I've complained for about a year that my stereo has no microphone so if someone calls my Bluetooth attached phone I can't talk to them.

On the way to MeatUp, Doc pointed out that the microphone was just sat loose in the boot.

Eight for speakers (2x4), switched live, constant live, earth, aerial.

I'm pretty sure that's all they used to have.

Amp REM RCA and sometimes illum which was for the lights on the stereo. That and your RCA or annoying proprietary DIN was standard from about 1990.

It's way more complicated now. I modded a Naikamichi double DIN into an ITX PC case and it was rather complicated. The DVD player and video out refused to work unless the car was parked. Turned out there was a mystery pink wire that needed shoving to ground, or in the case of a car the auto stick in park.

While all stereos should have had RCA cables to drive an amp, that was sadly only the case on certain models.

I've been getting quietly excited about my test drive of the MG ZS EV but this article has proper given me cold feet. I've been worried about the charging infrastructure keeping up with EV uptake, and this doesn't paint a pretty picture.

It just depends on how many long journeys you do really. If you're doing hundreds of miles up and down the motorway every week then forget it. It's easier to recommend if you run two cars in the family but I've not run into any problems charging away from home.

I'd say we do a 200+ mile journey 2-3 times a year. I think my worry is that as oiks like me are now getting on board the EV gravy train, it's becoming mainstream. Are there enough charging points to cope with the new demand? (that's more a rhetorical question).

It's a bit chicken and egg for sure, but so far round here all I've witnessed is a surplus. We were up in the lakes all week last week, every Booths supermarket there has a bank of Instavolts and I only ever saw one other car charging up. It's been the same story in most other places I've seen chargers. I don't think it's that hard to scale as demand grows, it's not like building petrol stations. I don't know much about the financials of it all but it strikes me that there are a lot of businesses with a car park and a decent electricity supply will probably be fairly happy to host them as it's one more reason for people to go there.

I was trapped by four cans of export lager.

Fair play to the guys from the MUA they were there within an hour and working until 1am to get the water service restored.

I'd gone over to the Co-Op to get some bottled water which I shared with the neighbours. BREXIT WARNING, a small area of the town lost their water supply for a few hours, and the nearest supermarket was already getting cleaned out of bottled water.

At the first hint of any proper shortages of anything, the UK will go into meltdown.

But now we know the IoM co-op stocks bottled water. Prepare for the invasion from the mainland to steal your resources.

Someone stopped at the pub in a trad sports car. Being near Malvern that would normally mean Morgan, apart from the one guy with a fucking massive old Bentley, but I've no idea what this was. Absolutely pristine bodywork, brand new skinny tyres, weirdly what looked like red brake discs on the front. Sounded ace.

Well, that wasn't crazy difficult to do. The multiple cable options aren't needed, it's just a matter of taking the entertainment kit in the boot apart and finding the single connector you need. Then it's just running the cable through the car. It really helped that I have the split folding seat option, as I could run the cable through the corner of that, down the side of the seat, and under the trim on the sill.
Worst part was getting the glovebox back on again, that is very much a 2 man job.

So far I have bluetooth music streaming, bluetooth phone, CD player, and the dash cam up and running.
Sat Nav is working, but I need to download offline google maps, and the whole of the UK is about 2GB it looks like. I'm going to try and park close enough to the flat to hook up to my home wifi, rather than do that off a phone hotspot!
No FM radio, the kit didn't come with the correct extension cable, and the one you can buy online has the wrong connector on it, and also has to be run through to the rear of the car. I expect I'll just ignore FM radio for now, I can always stream it from my phone if I want it. I can get a DAB USB stick with aerial for £50, which might be an option. I've run a couple of USB connectors into the glovebox for future connectivity malarkey.
Rear view camera I didn;t even attempt, the cable it comes with is nowhere near long enough to run power from the reverse light, so i'll need to buy more cable. Plus it involves splicing into wires etc... which is a lot of faff.
Dash cam was super easy, stuck on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror, ran the cable along the windscreen edge, and plugged it into a USB socket, and it "just worked"

All in all, very happy so far, sound quality is pretty good, certainly no worse than the original kit. Bluetooth music stream quality is much better than the FM modulator I was using, unsurprisingly.

Took a couple of hours to do from start to finish, I could probably do it in an hour now I know what i'm doing.

There must be an easy way to looking for used cars.

The Skoda used car search is bad.

They have both trade and private, and you can filter it. I’ve only ever bought one car privately on it.
