Primarily just because it was old enough that I think it was due an upgrade, but also because it was struggling with acting as a Plex server (especially with multiple devices transcoding)

The gaming benefit is nice though - did the SteamVR performance test and it was right at the top of the bar :)

<119.99> GAMING speakers for the downstairs laptop. The built in speakers are crap and were starting to annoy me, as I do like to use the laptop for games thanks to the 144Hz loveliness. Also I've been getting evicted downstairs quite a lot recently anyway as Mrs Hearthly and Jnr have been filming the Minecraft expansion upstairs, so have even just been playing quite a lot of Hearthstone on it.

<6.99> Premium audio cable to connect the GAMING speakers to the laptop. I did not realise that the speakers come with every cable you could ever need to connect them to anything, in the box.

The grilles come off and the speakers do look quite nice in that configuration, but Mrs Hearthly would put her feet through the cones at some point with a 100% certainty, so they're staying on.

What made you choose those ones? They came out top in a Custom PC speaker roundup so I went for them.

I've tried the Bluetooth as well with my phone and that works nicely.

Some good reviews and Grim... has (and likes) several pairs of the non-digital-non-Bluetooth version. I needed powered bookshelf speakers with digital inputs, so there wasn't a huge amount of competition.

There's clearly nowhere else for them to go that's neat and tidy, and not in the way.

Anyway, Mrs Hearthly's ability to break tech in rare and unusual ways is legendary, MAXIMUM SAFETY is the only way to go.

She once broke her phone by trying to jam an iPad charger into it so hard that she broke the connector inside the phone.

I've changed mine to £800-£1000 to include both of the PS4s I've bought. I'll no doubt reach that amount before the year is out, mostly down to the games coming soon :)

<6.99> in case it doesn't fit where the existing PS4 is. I think with the extra height it won't.. Backup plan is to stand it vertically behind the TV. Loads of space back there.

<7.99> so I can touch as little of the used remote as possible.

It's an autism thing. I really don't like touching second hand controllers or phones. The controller is near mint (it first wasn't even going to have one) so I gave it a good going over with isoprop and I'll put that on. Hopefully I can settle my paranoid OCD and get use out of it.

<14.29> for A Way Out on CDkeys.

For three nights running my buddy and I have been trying to scrape some sort of enjoyment out of FO76. Sadly we concluded it is not fun in any shape or form, even with all of the patches. It's still buggy and you still get smashed by enemies three times higher than you (and more, we've had level 62 baddies and we're 16) and it's still crap. So we were desperate for something to play until BL3 comes out next month so we're going to try this, given only one of us (my turn this time) has to pay for it.

I hope it's vaguely enjoyable.

haha thanks man. Well you can play it at 38% apparently so here goes nothing.....

Edit in. Yeah this is a lot more fun than the reviews made it out to be. Really had some good laughs so far, especially when my buddy was in the shower and kept showing me full willy. I love how it's all intertwined too. Very clever.

I saw that. That's not bad I'll stump for that if my buddy ever gets his ass into gear and gets a PS4. He's been talking about it forever. Never thought I'd beat him to it tbh.

I'm only holding back because last year I spent about £40 on Xbox subs and used it one time.

At this point he'd be better holding off for a PS5. It's going to be backwards compatible so he could still play PS4 games online with you.

Yeah I guess. Winter is coming though and that's when we hit it hard.

I'm definitely getting a ps5. Like, 100%.

I did dip my toes in the water with the 360 but the PC was still quite a way ahead and the awful frame rates in FONV and the terrible draw distance etc just turned me off.

Now though? Nearly all of the console games I've played feel and look no different. Especially things like 4k FO4 because the distance from the screen makes up for the fact it's lower rent in visual quality.

But yeah, definitely putting my PC out to pasture now. When an entire console costs less than a mid range GPU and seems identical you have to start questioning things a bit. Add to that virtually no aggro and a big soft sofa? Yeah, nah.

I paid £650 for my Titan XP from a mate who'd had it a week. If I want the same performance over two years later (June 2017) I can pay £650 for it. That's not how it's supposed to fucking work, man.

0 progress and just not realising how good consoles had become was a nice revelation. It was like jumping seamlessly from one format to the other and far less aggro.

The lack of progress on PC? Was all happening on the consoles. I just didn't realise it.
