Sex Education is a new show about a kid who lives with his sex therapist mother, and gives out his own advice to people at school.

It's British, but very John Hughes in nature (the school, especially, is very American). It's funny, but still has a couple of bits that are really hard to watch. And the soundtrack is excellent.

Highly recommended.

I watched all of Sunderland Till I Die yesterday, didn't intend too, but it was really good so just kept going!
It helps that i'm not a football fan, so had no idea what happened to Sunderland last season. A very interesting tale and a well made documentary.

Watched the first ep last night, and it’s great. Very funny stuff and as you say, has huge American influences.

I’m not sure how we are supposed to react to boobs on an actress in her early 20s playing the part of a teenage schoolgirl though.

Riverdale - ambiguous about time period and technology.
Sabrina - ambiguous about time period and technology, set in Greendale
Sex Education - ambiguous about time period, location and technology, set in Moordale.

Titans looked liked generic DC from the trailer, but it's closer to Daredevil than it is to The Flash. It's pretty brutal at times and quite a good story so far.
It's a weird juxtaposition of stupid superhero costumes and blood spurting action. Robin is a badass.

Plus it has Lyla fucking Garrety in it!

Not looked at them, I avoid reviews as much as possible these days! Metacritic says 55%, rotten tomatoes say 83%.
Seems like it didn't fit what the reviewers expected or wanted, but was reasonably well liked by the public.

I watched it with my 15 year old son, we both really enjoyed it. My wife was in the room when we started watching ep4, she made us finish watching the entire series yesterday! She absolutely loved it. There were a few missteps imo ( I really didn't like the tonal shift in the first half of the last episode in particular) but on the hole I really enjoyed it.

The trailer made it look like the worst most stupid faux-edgy pish. I think I actually laughed out loud when I first saw it. The bit with Robin going, "Fuck Batman," was especially awful.

The tech in Sex Education is very definitely current day. Everybody is on their phones, absent dad Skypes his kid, mum writes on a laptop. Some people (the head master) just have powerfully 70s home decor.

Location is definitely much more vague, given the breadth of accents and the weirdly American school.

Riverdale and Sabrina have the same creator, don't know any link to SE though.

The porn mags look 80s vintage.

It’s very vague about where it’s set, but the “school” is the University of South Wales campus in Caerleon, and the house is in Symonds Yat.

Just watched the first episode. Really enjoyed it, but yeah, I think it’s intentionally fucking around with eras. It’s definitely set in the modern world, but with a feel of the 70s and 80s about some parts. Plus the school is entirely American in style but everyone is English. I like the aesthetic though.

The Death Wish remake was added to Netflix today. I'd read some bad things about it, but I thought it was pretty good (considering it was never exactly going to be the deepest of films). Changing his job from an architect to a surgeon makes some sense too to join bits of the plot together. Some of the violence was perhaps a little unnecessarily graphic, but it was never going to be a gentle film I suppose.

I watched this last night. It was OK. Kind of exactly what I was expecting really. Eli Roth generally produces watchable if unspectacular films.

Bruce largely phones it in, as he has been since, what, about 2001?

The entire thing is workmanlike and functional, it was a car it’d be a second hand Ford Fiesta.

Interesting that even though the violence has been ‘modernised’, they pulled back quite considerably with the act of violence against Kersey’s family, which in the original Death Wish, and even more so in Death Wish 2, was genuinely stomach churning and difficult to watch. (I tracked down the uncut version of Death Wish 2 a few years ago, the rapes and murders that precipitate Kersey’s vigilantism are fucking awful.)

But yeah, the remake, not a huge amount to say about it. It’s a bit above average, certainly better than the reviews would suggest. I think it got panned because it was released in the wake of a mass shooting which always makes Americans think that gunishment style films are inappropriate for about 34 minutes, and then they’re OK again.

565/1000 - passes a couple of hours on without straining one's brain.

Tried watching Sex Education yesterday but didn’t enjoy it as much as the shows we have been watching recently (Sabrina and Lemony Snicket). It seemed more like something made for channel 4, and I don’t think I’ve forgiven Gillian Anderson for slowing down every scene of Hannibal to a painful crawl.

I am two episodes into Season 2 of THE PUNISHER and it seems good but feels a little bit off compared to Season 1.

By all accounts they've got the same writers but haven't used any of the same directors from Season 1, which may explain it.

Also, I appreciate it's early days but it's got a bit of a lower budget vibe to it, which seems unlikely as Netflix spend all the money on everything, so I'll see how it pans out in that regard.

Don't get me wrong, this is nothing like Jessica Jones Season 2 levels of badness (which was so awful I gave up in despair less than halfway through), but it's not really clicked with me yet either.

Will work my way through it, but it's a tentative thumbs-up at best at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that punisher S2 came around a similar time to Disney stiffing them - contracts in place gotta do it but don't interrupt the other stuff they aren't getting shafted on.

Same as they haven't spent a single marketing penny on marvel stuff in the last 6 months, not even taking the time to send an email.

Disney didn't stiff them though, they made a choice not to further invest in brands that they didn't fully control.

That's my take on the situation.

After reading this article and seeing that it mentions two documentaries about the failed Fyre festival, I thought I'd give the Netflix one a go - Fyre - The greatest party that never happened. It's a good watch, and you do feel for a lot of the people involved, but at the end of it, if you didn't already hate the word 'influencer', you will do.

The most amazing thing about that was not only how much of a complete fucking bellend Billy is, but just how terrible everyone around him was. I think the person who comes off worst is the woman who kept finding him millions from investors.

It rather reminds me of my last job. The CEO is still dishing out his misguided positivity and no-one's going to call him out on it until everything's crashed down.

Bloody hell S02E03 of The Punisher was poor, this shit needs to start getting better, and sharpish.

They need to employ some editors who are actually prepared to edit things, and maybe a writer who can come up with an episode where something actually happens.

Also, who thought adding an annoying teenager into the mix was a good idea?

Watched Bandersnatch. Started off well, was an interesting concept and had some intriguing elements... And then it kinda didn't go anywhere. Saw a good half dozen or so endings, but none of them really felt satisfying.

Fuck me I give up on THE PUNISHER Season 2.

Just about everything that made Season 1 interesting and cool has been gutted out, and we're left with a semi-soap opera containing occasional bouts of violence.

It's not so much its typical Netflix slowness, (I can sort of deal with that), but this is just poor.

The cast are giving it their best, but even John Bernthal can't rescue this one.

If anyone makes it beyond Episode 4 and it suddenly gets really good, please let me know and I'll maybe give it another go.

I watched this last night and enjoyed it thoroughly, although in essence you are just watching a massive con artist take a load of stupid rich people for a ride. On some level it's hard to feel much sympathy for the rich kids who were enticed by what Fyre Festival appeared to be offering, (harshly, I can't help but think that anyone who wanted to go is probably a bit of a twat), but I did feel very sorry for all the local Bahamians who were caught up in the madness and ended up badly out of pocket.

Billy McFarland himself came across as nothing more than a sociopathic compulsive liar and I cringed every time anyone referred to him as an 'entrepreneur'.

A very entertaining watch, but one does have to remember that there were victims in this.

Two episodes in, and Carmen Sandiego is pretty good

One of the nice things that came off the back of the documentary was a number of crowdfunding efforts to fully reimburse the local restauranteur and labourers.
