I kept watching to the end but it was very uneven and a fair bit of it didn't work. The main presenter guy annoyed me somewhat at times as well.

It probably helped a lot that Ashens featured rather prominently in the second half.

I'll stick around for the next one but there's a lot of room for improvement.

I think it's for Digitiser fans. As someone who wasn't but now knows enough to think I would, I... Quite enjoyed it. The final payoff was amazing.

That was crap, to be honest. A load of 40-something men farting about chuckling to their own little in-jokes in front of a camera, with a few token female vidbloggers and zero quality control.

I liked it. But then again I'm familiar with Mr Biffo. All the people involved were likeable too.

The pacing was a bit off, but for a first crack it was good.

After Dave Perry's recent abomination it shows how you should do a retro games show.

I've just watched the first episode of Digitiser and despite the editing and sound being a bit funky... I really enjoyed it!

I have to admit, I've never been a fan of Guru Larry but this is going someway to winning me over. I'm looking forward to episode two now.

The Ferry Arcade (and cafe next door) in Fleetwood has closed down.

There's a useful TL:DR :)

Quote:
I have gotten requests for a tl;dr, which slipped my mind when I wrote this. (Oopsie-daisy!)

- Long lost video interview with Robert Mruczek was found,

- Video has sat outside the control of anyone from TG since 2006,

- Mruczek shows off Billy's 1.047M tape, again, in 2006,

- Tape is covered in MAME signatures like John Hancock,

- This thoroughly discredits Team Billy's silly accusations against Dwayne Richard, which only trace back to 2009,

- This also debunks any notion that the MAME signatures were not part of Billy's original submission,

- Billy Mitchell is very disappointing.

I've completed it coop. Level 99 is quite the trap, mind. Playing it to that point to be greeted by... that. To this day, I'm still a little resentful of that level.

That's my suspicion. 98 is fairly easy, compared to what's gone before. 99... Needs some time to figure out.

That's an interesting point.
On most (all?) games I'll move with the left and mash buttons with the right hand, to the extent that if I find a cab with the stick on the right I'll play with my arms crossed.

I can't remember what I do with a central joystick on a Pac Man cab....

That's interesting.. I've just realised that I play arcade games with my left hand on the stick, apart from Pac-man which I play with my right. Wow.

Arcade games were generally all setup with left hand stick / right hand buttons

There were some that had a central stick and then buttons on either side - in my local arcade when Donkey Kong got really popular had an extra 2 machines (*) - both converted from some other random game and had the joystick and button the wrong way round and a lot of people (including me) used to cross our arms to play (so you'd still have the button and stick in the correct hands)

(*) All Crazy Kong rather than Donkey and they had one pretty soon after launch but it was very rare to have more than one 'copy' of a video game

There's a link off to a forum post with the story behind how they got hold of a 25 year old Jurassic Park pinball New In Box, it's a bit sad in a way.

Quote:
Here is the story behind the machine. I purchased it today from this person. He is a fellow Pinsider and was fantastic to work with.

“I had a good friend back in the day that had a lot of money. She wanted to buy games for her party room in her house so I took her and her husband to the Colorado Game Exchange. Not once did I ever ask for anything from them. To my surprise they bought two Jurassic Park pinball machines and told me one of them was mine. I told them I would pay for it she said no it was a gift from her to me. I still insisted on paying for it.

A few days later we were all having a few beers and her and her husband got into an argument. They were both drunk. Eventually they were screaming and yelling at each other. Somehow the husband thought I raised my voice at her. He came in the room and started yelling at me and even pushed me. I told them both to fuck off and I left. A day or two after that the machines were delivered to her house. I ran into her and him about a week later and they both apologized for being overly drunk and for treating me like crap. I told them I didn't need friends like them and would not accept the apology. She started crying and promised it wouldn't happen again. I left.

I had not seen either one of them after that until the September 2017. When I seen her she looked at me and said hello and I said hello back. I we talked a bit and eventually I asked her if she still had all the games that she bought back in the day and she told me no and then she said the only game she had was the Jurassic Park she bought for me and she said it was still sitting new in the garage waiting for me to come pick it up. She basically said that if I did not come get it that she was going to throw it away and asked me if I could come get it the next day. She said it was in her way and she wants it gone I told her I would still give her some money for it and she refused the money.

She wrote down her phone number and her address and said call me when you're on the way then she left. The next day I called her she said the game was sitting outside in the driveway so I went and picked it up I had a friend go knock on the door and some young kid answered the door and my friend handed the kid the money and said here's some money for the game. So that's basically the story of the NIB Jurassic Park.”

Elite really is one of those 'shift' moments in games where after it things would never be the same - I knew a lot of the backstory and the other stuff covered in here but its very well put together (and long / detailed without being boring)
