That's a lot of car for two grand though. If it lasts a year without anything major going wrong I'd say it'd be worth it.

Obviously it'll have to go in the bin if anything does actually go wrong.....

I like the Bangle era Beemers, even though I know a lot of people didn't. They've aged very well IMO.

While working this afternoon we had that exact situation. A VM cluster fell over, and the monitoring service couldn't reach the agents on any of the servers. To which its response is apparently 'meh'. And nobody's monitoring the monitoring to notice that several thousand servers just fell off the grid, apparently.

I don't know much about this car but was intrigued by all the comments. Had a Google and happened upon Yankee Hearthly.

:D They are certainly challenging to look at from the back end...
To my mind the E65 is the first of the modern era of luxury car, they are a huge step up from the E38/E39 era when it comes to interior quality and luxury "feel", and while an E38 feels like an old car, an E65 could almost be released today with nobody batting an eye. It's a ridiculous amount of car for the money.
Will it break at some point? Probably :) But i'll either fix it or ebay it and get something else.
This car wasn't actually that much of a gamble, as i'm the 4th owner from Pistonheads in the bargain barge thread, so the history is well known and the recent owners are all enthusiasts. It's a lottery, but not as much as it could have been.

The only issue i've found is a lumpy idle on cold start, which is apparently due to the valvetronic and will cost about £5k to fix.
So... yeah... I think i'll live with the lumpy idle for a couple of minutes when it is cold :D

The facelift E65 is hugely more attractive at the back, IMO. The 750i I had was amazing.

And yet a frankly absurd number of them were ordered without even heated seats, let alone the “upgrades” in the form of ventilated seats and massage cushions!

More research has shown a promising thread on a forum from a few years back, dude with the same issue replaced the cam sensors and vanos solenoid o-rings, and it made a significant difference, altogether that is £100 in parts and an hours labour to do, which is a lot better than £5k! I'll try that and see if it stops the lumpiness, and then ignore the issue if it doesn't ;)

£70 to fill a Ford Fucking Focus up, petrol is getting expensive again.

I'm glad the ST is doing sensible MPG (it's settled down long-term to 34.5mpg, which I think is pretty good, especially since I just drive it however I want and don't particularly try to be economical), as a thirstier car could get quite annoying at the pumps.

I'd noticed my mpg taking a bit of a nosedive then realised that one of the brakes was sticking, I actually realised this when I felt the heat from it as I was stood in front of the car, and then I realised it even more when I stuck my finger on the probably almost glowing disc to see if it was actually hot. Anyway I managed to free off a sticking caliper piston and now it seems absolutely fine again.

Been loosing coolant for fun and suspected the coolant temp sender has worked loose (happened before) so I've refitted and filled up last night. Got half way to work and the coolant beeper beeped. Hopefully it's a case of the system taking it all in from the reservoir otherwise it's a case of checking and replacing hoses.

Remember to check the oil for white goo and the exhaust for sweet tasting steam.

Yeah, I don't know anything about diesels but I assume that head gasket problems could show up the same way.

That's on my list. I did notice pools of coolant/dried coolant behind the engine block on top of the exhaust/manifold area.

If it was the head gasket the evidence of the leak wouldn't be external would it?

The other thing is the temp gauge is showing up fine, climbs steadily to 90º then stays there. Drive to work is an hour each way.

It can very well be, the coolant journals are sealed by a pretty narrow piece of gasket a lot of the time. You can glue an old Schrader valve into your coolant reservoir and use a bicycle pump to put about 4 or 5 psi into the system which makes leak finding a lot easier.

Had a quick look at lunch and felt a slight leak still from where the coolant temp sender is. Oil on the dipstick looked normal (no milky lump lumps).

I'll get the engine cover off properly on Sunday and have a good look at the hoses and stuff.

Have a check under the oil filler cap if it looks creamy then you might have a problem.

My car is currently in "Stop ignoring the warning lights and fix your fucking car!" mode. It won't let me start it without pressing the key to the steering column. It did it the last time I ignored my tire pressure warning thing, too. Which I only did because the first time that warning came up, I put air in my tires straight away, and I think they'd only lost like 2 psi or something.

So now when I try to start my car, there's an orchestra of beeps - screen wash, tires, hold the key to the start thingy, it's cold out, coolant... The coolant light goes straight to red, no fucking about with orange. Urgh, so much effort. I don't the coolant is way in the danger zone though, because it's only on when I've got a full tank of fuel. I'll do it all at the weekend, if it's not raining. I keep blaming the weather but I'm actually just lazy because the intention to do it only strikes when it's pissing down.
