Yeah the Amazon reviews don't seem so good. Reliability issues are quite bad it would seem.

I will probably just get a regular one in a snazzy colour or something. I did love the 360 controller but the weight did bother me. One controller seems so much lighter..

Got a few bits and bobs.

Image

I already have a Steelseries headset but the mic doesn't work. I *think* I can use an OMTP? adaptor? but I ordered one and it's coming from China ffs. So I got this, possibly stand in possibly permanent.

Some batteries.

And some car games.

As I didn't have any. I also bought State Of Decay 2 the other day, so that should arrive soon too.

It's a shame this information couldn't have been conveyed using a less data-intensive medium.

I could have gotten a regular external but they need power and I don't have a spare socket. This thing piggy backs with the Xbone power, which is cool. I have a 1tb to shove in for now giving me 2tb total.

Quote:
For no upfront cost and one low monthly price for 24 months, Xbox All Access gets you a new Xbox One S or Xbox One X, access to more than 100 great games through Xbox Game Pass, and online multiplayer with Xbox Live Gold,” Microsoft’s Bogdan Bilan explains. “That’s more than 100 all-you-can-play games — including highly-anticipated new Xbox One exclusives the day they’re released, plus more games added all the time on the fastest, most reliable gaming network and an Xbox One console.”

As previously reported, Xbox All Access is available only in the United States and will cost $22 or $35 per month, depending on whether you choose an Xbox One S or Xbox One X console.

As suspected, this isn’t a lease: At the end of your two-year commitment, you own the console outright and can choose whether to continue subscribing to Xbox Live Gold and/or Xbox Game Pass.

As I previously noted, the Xbox One S version of this subscription is particularly good, since you’ll save about $130 over the lifetime of the subscription. With the Xbox One X subscription, the savings is just $20.

Games with Gold for 1 September onwards:-

Prison Architect - Build a virtual prison and fill it with scumbags. BEEX personified. Looks interesting at the very least.

Livelock - twin stick shooter. Never heard of it. Looks colourful.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars - YaaaaaaawWWwaaaawWWwaaaaawwwwnn.

Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World - First Streets of Rage now this. Cool fucking beans!

Games With Gold this month gets you:

Overcooked - supposed to be good this
Victor Uran - or something. Never heard of it. The box art looks fucking appalling.
Stuntman - that 360 game from the Driver people. I remember not caring for it.
Hitman: Blood Money - the second best one on 360.

Hmmm... Good point. Yes you do.

Sorry, I was thinking back to before I had an Xbox One and I bought the free games on my account but of course, I had a gold account because I was still on my Xbox 360.

So the time has come to order the Xbox "for the kids" for Christmas.

Is the S a false economy now? Should I just bite the bullet and cough up for an X?

Will "the kids" notice the difference?

Depends if you can bear being half a generation behind the times.

If you can, spend the extra on the X, it packs a massive graphical wallop compared to the S and the base console. (And it gets the fantastic vapour chamber cooler.)

I've played FH4 on the the X and the base console, it's a big difference.

The answer to the question "will it be used with a 4k TV?" is...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
yes

I guess that answers that question then.

Not necessarily, you'd still be able to leverage stuff such as 60FPS mode on a 1080p screen.

Also, the X gets 12GB of RAM as opposed to 8GB of RAM, which developers are using to reduce loading times in some games now.

A couple of guys here have upgraded from a base console or an S to an X, and are very impressed with the change.

That said, if you do have a 4K screen then the X is even more compelling.

This is absolutely not the question. The base One offers the worst experience of all the modern consoles (Switch excluded of course because it’s about as powerful as my toaster). Games are slower with a worse resolution than a base PS4; the X is just a overal nicer experience. Whether you have a 4K is largely irrelevant.

Battlefield 1! I'd like some of that.

PS4 got Race the Sun some time ago, and it's great for a quick blast.

Sounds like my type of game then.

I almost bought Battlefield 1 the other week as it was down to 3 or 4 quid in a sale. Good job I didn't.

If you have a 4k screen get a 1x. 4k on it is marvellous from 15-20ft away seriously at that distance it looks every bit as good as a £1000 GPU spitting it out. I had to take a screenshot, then view it on my PC to see the difference. And it was vast (because I am running all that Gameworks crap) but it's more than good enough even for an anal person like me to accept. There are also quite a few enhanced games out already, with most of the new ones being enhanced too. Just don't install Quantum Break on a 1x. You can drop the resolution internally (easily) if you want 1080p. Amazon Video doesn't play nice in 4k on the 1x so I dropped it when watching that. But yeah, get it going on an enhanced game and it really is rather stunning. I found myself stopping numerous times in FO4 to marvel at the prettiness of the game I was playing. Been a long time since any console has impressed me like that !

Mine has gone back with what I suspect to be a dead HDD. I also suspect it was dodgy when I got it and the person who sold it to me simply couldn't be arsed to return it, or it could have taken a thump on way to me. Either way it's all packed up and on its way back.

I'm clucking now. Thank the heavens I didn't give my brother and sister in law *my* Fire stick or I would have a dumb TV right now and not be able to watch anything.
