I'm on about ep4. It's delightfully mental and I fully love Emma Stone.

Also, that Sons of Anarchy show, Mayans MC isn’t too bad. Well, 2 episodes in anyway, it isn’t too bad. At least it looks nice. The theme tune is terrible though.

Watched the first one, it was ok. Didn't sign up for all the reading though, so not sure i'll continue.

I also watched the first couple of The Purge. Dross, don't bother.

I managed 40 minutes of iron fist season 2 before I turned it off. Dull dull dull.

I watched 2 episodes of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. The first season (and some of 2) was genuinely upsetting, had a groovy story, gotta be one of the top ten intros of TV of all time, great characters and great production values. So the first episode of the new one was actually really good as a nuclear blast kills the world but it doesn’t take long for the leather clad buggery to start. And Joan Collins. *shrug* Now it feels like it’s trying too hard to be edgy and emo.

AHS has had some great series, but others that just didn’t do much for me. I’m hoping this one is decent, as post apocalyptic stuff is usually my type of story. Ep1 was ok.

They've recently put out a second trailer for the upcoming Titans series, a Netflix adaption of DC Comics 'Teen Titans'. The general response is, rightly, laughter and disbelief because fucking hell; it looks utterly awful. I'm not a big follower of those comics and the only characters I know very well are Dick Grayson (the first Robin and later Nightwing) and Starfire. So if you've got any investment in the characters it's stunningly bad, and if you just like TV shows that don't look laughably awful you're not well served either. Mind boggling.

I wouldn't say it looks utterly laughable though, just looks like a standard DC superhero series to me, shitty acting and all!

Granted, what little I've seen of their usual output though The CW (e.g. Arrow et al) is about the same level of embarrassingly awful; but with this being a Netflix thing I thought they might try and give a fuck for once. I was wrong.

Seems it's somehow worse than the trailer suggests.

http://collider.com/titans-review/

Quote:
Titans is the absolute zenith of the post-Nolan, post-Dark Knight era of “mature” comic book storytelling, a show with both the grittiness and enjoyability factor of sandpaper. It’s Riverdale with zero self-awareness. Gotham without a whiff of fun. It’s Arrow if The CW allowed for gratuitous, minutes-long shots of dudes getting beaten with a stick. All put together, Titans lands just about as gracefully as The Flying Graysons.

The overall tone--at least what can be gleaned from the trailer--does look all grim-dark and humourlessly gritty for sure. For my money though that's the least of it's issues; it's more the fact that it just looks cheap and awful. If someone told me it was a fan made trailer for a fictional series I'd have no problem believing that. Indeed the thumbnail on YouTube looks for all the world like an SNL parody sketch.

Bzzt, annoying, inappropriate but common misuse of zenith.

Excellent! That's tonight's viewing sorted. I'm interested in seeing where the story goes. I thought it ended quite nicely last time with a lot all wrapped up.

So I’m watching Venom at the flicks and this advert comes on for a series called Killing Eve which looked interesting. Watched an episode: hey that was good. Watched another: cor, blinder. Watched another: fuck me, nice.

So yeah, Killing Eve, it’s pretty good at the half way point.

Oh, it’s about a psycho femme fatale esq assassin who kills folk. The emphasis is on the psycho and the intelligence team chasing her. Yeah, yeah, you’ve seen it all before but here the psycho is very watchable and gets plenty of airtime. It straddles a line between realism and dark comedy and has some absurd character or two that kinda bothers me and some contrivances that place the lead intelligence lady in direct conflict with the psycho but overall it’s been very good.

It finished showing a while back in the US and there was some very positive chat about it earlier in the thread. It was produced by the ever excellent Phoebe Waller Bridge mind so it's no surprise it's good.

Finished Killing Eve. It was good but I didn’t like the obvious set up for another season. It could have been wrapped up reasonably nicely with lots of questions unresolved and I would have been super impressed. As it stands, it didn’t, so I’m not. Strong 7/10.

All the episodes of the US version of The Office were added to Amazon Prime a couple of weeks back so I've been working my way through those. Certainly more bearable than the UK version, although Amazon do their bit to spoil things by having some of the subtitles out of sync in season three.

I went into the American Office not expecting much... after a few seasons, I was hooked! Steve Carell is brilliant throughout. Much better than the English office if you ask me.

The US Office is spectacular for most of its run, but does run out of steam by the end.

I love both the UK and US Office, but I can imagine watching the US version over and over - the UK one not so much. Whether you think Gervais is no longer funny or relevant, or never was in the first place (surely no one argues that he is still funny), you surely must admit the Office was groundbreaking at the time.

I mean, he’s arguably the most popular working comedian in the world, so I think a fair few people would indeed argue that.

I love(d) Riverdale! It started off bad in a good way but halfway through S2 it just got... bad. It started trying a bit too hard with the self awareness, and the story went to shit. But! I love Cheryl, she is the best character. It's still entertaining but S3 is pretty poor compared to S1. Kinda like what happened to The Good Place.

I would say no. There's a reasonable amount of swearing, and quite a bit of gore. Depends on the kid though, of course, but I wouldn't let mine anywhere near it.

So, after a really slow start, Final Space got really good.

Can recommend.

There's a distinct possibility that this will do a "Lost", but so far it's good.

The Haunting of Hill House is superb.

Probably the best horror TV I've seen. Some brilliant camerawork / editing / effects in there. It's not perfect but I highly recommend it.

Really slow start??!?!? And this from a guy who drives what is basically a Range Rover without sides.

It was ace from start to finish. I genuinely hope they make a second one.

In other news, I'm now most of the way through Preacher S2 - brilliant stuff. Herr Starr has been perfect - not identical to the chap in the comics, by any stretch, but a perfect realisation. Tulip and her reaction to the Saint as been spot on also.

Also Hitler was great.*

*How often do you get to say that in a non-Nazi way?
