A siren sounds, and anyone who wasn't already awake is jerked back to consciousness. Everyone is in their own room, but they quickly rush to the door and enter the central chamber as the 'bedrooms' fill with gas.

The siren cuts off, and our intrepid group see two coffins in the middle of the white expanse. The lid of the first flicks open.

Inside is MaliA.

"Oh dear," says the voice. "He appears to have been killed."

The television flickers into life.

'MaliA could investigate each night and return the secondary win condition of the person he investigated. He could also befriend the Sheriff. Were the Sheriff to die, MaliA would take on his role.

MaliA was the Deputy Sheriff.'

"Oh dear. Could his death have been prevented if you had not all sat on your hands yesterday? Well, at least there's a Sheriff left to save you."

The second coffin clicks open.

Inside is zaphod79

The screen reads:

'Zaphod could investigate each night, returning his subject's primary win condition. He could befriend the Deputy Sheriff.

Zaphod was the Sheriff.'

"Oh dear, my little pacifists. Your law and order has deserted you. Perhaps now you will turn on each other in broad daylight. We shall see..."

Well I'm guessing that anyone who chose to contact someone and was able to make contact can now privately communicate.

And of course, nobody is going to admit to saying that they targetted MaliA or Zaphod; but those that did will be suspicious that they have a kill role.

Stupid amnesia.

Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff lost in the very first night? That rather suggests to me that pure random chance wasn't all that was at work last night.

That was massively against the odds, very mathematically unlikely.

I'm concerned that the person writing the messages on the TV can't spell Sheriff. Is that significant, or just idiocy?

That's not good, I don't like the thought of anyone dying in here, especially not people who are Sheriffs, they could have perhaps helped us.

Does anyone else have any memories of last night at all?

I have just a one word snippet

Mauve

Not sure what it means 8)

Malc

So what do we know from last night?

2 of us are Dead.
Malc likes Mauve.

That seems a lot to go on!
So what do we do, choose someone to die, which seems horrible.

or

Do a no lynch and folks die overnight.

Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff does seem like a bit of a coincidence :/ But then there's no way of judging how much of a coincidence as we have no idea of how many bad characters there might be, or of what kind. The text that opened the game addressed everyone in the same way: we've all lost our memories, all apparently strangers in a room, but maybe we're not being told the full story on this?

What's confusing me most is Malc... Is 'mauve' something you've learned, Malc? Do you know who from? And what on earth does that mean?

so maybe it's a warning/clue *sent* by someone rather than discovered by Malc?

Interesting question to ask, considering 2 good people were obviously targeted last night, i'm not sure how you expect him to answer, or how you expect that answer to help anybody on the good side?

I had no messages/warnings/anything overnight.

Well 'mauve' is obviously a response to an action by malc, or an action targetting Malc. So maybe Malc just has the ability to find out what colour pants someone is wearing, it's still information.

I'm being obtuse, as I have a vague recollection of the word 'meta', for some reason. I did nothing overnight but sleep and had a dream about being warned for inaction.

I think Alarm's is fairly obvious. He didn't target anyone and got a warning from the man in the TV for doing so.

I agree with the warning, but the "meta" could be something if someone tried to contact him?

This part I am unsure about... unless he has been targeted or contacted?

This part as Craster suggested is obvious.

Likewise. However that may mean that:

1) I targetted someone to investigate them, but there was nothing to learn
2) I targetted someone to savagely murder them, but they were protected
3) I targetted someone to protect them
4) I targetted someone but I was prevented from doing 'something'
5) I targetted someone but had no ability to do anything to them.

Which is helpful, wouldn't you agree?

With 2 kills already, i'd say that 2 was pretty unlikely at least. Assuming you are telling the truth! :D Any more than 2 people doing dastardly deeds would mean we would all be wiped out very quickly. I suspect whoever controls the TV wants his "game" to continue for longer than that.

Although if there are 3 kills tomorrow that would be an interesting discussion...

Morning everyone, I had a terrible cold ealier and lost my voice for a bit but im ok now.
Dont remember anything from the night and my target/contact seems to have come to nothing.

Malc's experience is interesting, either he remembers something because he was up and about or something was done to him. Mauve is suspiciously close to red, blood is red... But then that could be the man in the TV messing with us.

Wierd.. I posted a reply earlier and it never turned up...
Or maybe it did and we have all forgotten it...

Anyway, I 'targetted' Grim (who sadly appears to be in fine fettle still!), and chose to contact Zaphod.

I suspect I am nobody.

But...

I may be wrong about 'contact' and 'target', and whether the terms TV bloke has given are red herrings or not.

I may have killed zaphod, or I may have just have fatal halitosis...

The people I chose for each action are both still near and neither have said anything to make me think my actions were carried out.
Yesterday, before we went to bed, I was trying to decide who my people would be. At no point did I plan to include a word in my contact, I was merely planning to get their attention. Like waving. Therefore, I am curious where these words have come from. Did someone here get to send a word as well as a wave, or has the man in the tv added them to mess with our heads further. I suspect the latter.
