That's exactly why I don't like it. It's too open to people just inventing a role, and then nobody will know anything as the admin can't confirm or deny. It gives an unfair advantage.

Inventing a role is just crazy though, surely no-one would fall for it...

Which makes it far too powerful to be allowed. There's just no way to argue with it.

I thought this had been resolved before and the agreement was people can say whatever they like as long as they don't copy and paste PM's?

Anyway, the writing was on the wall and I was obviously going so I thought I might as well make a roleclaim and with so many factions it was too risky to claim as someone when it would be immediatly obvious to their teammates I was lying, so I faked it. Had no idea there was a spy in the game although I had recieved a couple of messages so knew there must be something going. At least by roleclaiming, a few more characters roles are apparent.

Absolutely Gilly, what you did was perfectly fine. It's abundantly clear from the fact that you're dead that you can actually argue against a made-up role and win!

Commenting about not being able to copy and paste because you're on your phone is pushing it though :p

Also, I did think I was ok saying that because it was such a huge lie...I never know how far enough you are allowed to go with your lies in this game. That's usually why I'm so honest, I don't want to get into trouble.
Wish we'd killed Grim... at the start, when we immediatly looked to him when we got our first message. But we were trying to kill off quiet people to keep the game interesting and although Grim was quiet, he's usually interesting.

You came so very close to nailing the spy description, it was uncanny!

Tomorrow will be interesting I think...

I wouldn't be surprised if Alarm was a Brit. Or possibly Flis (be a Brit... not Alarm be Flis... that'd be weird).

Only your games.

So I assume Gilly was the spy? Muchos complicationas. [edit]Oh my - that's some lucky shit, followed by some unlucky shit when you gave the name of my teammate.

I wish I'd have known Bobby was going to be mod-killed before I started posting!

Rule 5 of the overall rules probably needs amending, then.

Jesus people, listen to yourselves!

Gilly wasn't the spy, she was a libyan.
Grim... wasn't the spy, he was a German.

That means...?

Fuck knows. I thought Gilly was a spy until I read in the dead thread that she wasn't.

Yeah, I totally get that. But there's absolutely no difference.
It's either got to be you can post whatever you like, or you can't. I could easily knock up a screenshot that looked like it was a PM confirming my job role, and use the same argument if someone complained.

Yeah, I know. At the time Lace did it, we said that quoting text is fine because anyone can easily make it up. Posting a screenie is bad because most folks couldn't (would bother) to fake a screenie, so it would be taken as proof rather than a claim.

So, if all the teams had 2 players, it would leave us with:

1 British Warmongerer
1 Afghan Infidel
1 Libyan Infidel
2 Hiding Frenchies
1 Rogue Spy
1 Swiss Councillor

Could be another night of absolute carnage!

But there is a huge difference in doing that IMO. One is just words and lies and it's your word against others, and that is within the game and fine. The other is purposely using external factors outside the game to influence the game.

Hmmm.... Now having written that out, that doesn't seem fine :D Both are using info outside of the game. For the purposes of the game the admin shouldn't exist in game terms, should they?

I don't think so, but that's more down to the person that runs the game - they should perhaps include their "rules" in the rulesset or edit the overall rules (like I did ages ago) before the game starts.

I don't think Gilly breached any rules. The previous time this happened she copied and pasted my PMs to her in response to Grim pretending to copy and paste PMs from me... she got believed over Grim because she left in my signature, thus making it look more 'authentic'.

I don't think people should paste in stuff from their PMs, or pretend to do so. I think that they are more than welcome to say their interpretation of it though - for instance, Gilly could have roleclaimed to be a Spy, and told her win condition, etc. Formatting it like a PM from the GM is what makes it look dodgy.

That said, she complied perfectly with Rule 5 in this instance, since the roleclaim was (superbly) fake.

One thing is for sure, it really kicked this game up the shitter! It was pretty boring before that, the spy stuff had been building in the background and that was a spectacular way for it all to come out :DD

I'm not arguing with you (well, I suppose I am now, but...).

I agreed that a change to the wording might be good, and you seemed to ignore that.

The main reason we went for you was because of a note. The PM (can I reveal who it is) was against it... but I just wanted to kill you.

Christ, it's quote Hell in here!

I agreed that a change to the wording might be good, and you seemed to ignore that.

Fair enough. You were incredibly subtle about it, I must say.

Anyhoo, blah blah. What the fuck would you change it to?

How about something along the lines of "The spirit of the game is that you are all gathered in a town square (or wherever) and talking. Anything you wouldn't be able to do verbally shouldn't be entered into your posts, save for quoting other players or making votes"?

Ak, I've been talking about the rule stuff in the dead thread so it doesn't disturb the game in progress (as they can't see us) - I didn't consider making a new thread in this sub-forum about it.

Something like that, Grim...

I'd add in examples of 'allowed' and 'frowned upon' though. Now we just need to decide on some. I'd say that posting a fake role description would be frowned upon in future (I have no issue with Gilly doing it here), but posting "Well, I'm a spy, and each night I can sneak around and find out info about people" would be fine in my book.

We'd best get it sorted before my next game, at any rate!
:D
