I would normally hold off on a role claim this early, but I don't want to go off for an hour and come back to find I've been ousted.

So, protection tonight plz!

I don't believe you.

But I don't not believe you, either.

Which is a conundrum.

Well...
I was suspicious as Curiosity was showing interest in Cyclon strategy, which marks him out as either a Cyclon or someone who needs to study them - i.e. Military.

I am but a humble Entomologist, so my piloting skills are sadly lacking. Survival-wise, I can at least tell you if the small spider on your neck is a harmless Turnip Spider, or is in fact the remarkably similar one known locally as 'Yakitanga', literally translated as 'Bite of long and drawn out agonising death'.
Just saying, like.

Anyway, hows this for an idea.. if you really are a humble scientist, how about you let people know what your speciality is?
In the spirit of scientific interest...

Annoyingly, I can't see much wrong with that idea.

I am a leaf scientist. You will see references to leafs throughout my posts (and probably wondered what I was rabbiting on about).

No, but they could have been randomly bandwagoning someone, and got lucky.

I must have amnesia caused by radiation from the Cylon attack, I don't remember.

I deleted my role PM in case Zeppo ever accidentally saw my PM box on my work PC here and decided to have a goosey.

Ok... [vote:unvote]

would Curio be crazy enough to mark himself out as someone so valuable to us so early in the game with only a few votes against him? It seems a bit sudden although maybe he does just want to protect himself and us from a sudden bandwagon.

I am now extra suspicious of kalmar and Gazchap. I've not looked at my role since I got the pm but I can still remember it and I've made reference to it. (photosynthesis, remember?) The only reason I haven't directly asked for others science specialisation is because I was interested to see who wouldn't make a casual reference to it, suggesting that they didn't in fact have any science skills at all.

My specialism is at the root of all of yours, as I'm a soil expert. Your plants won't grow without me, guys. Just remember that, if you want your seedlings not to be stunted and ugly, like you.

Why are you suspicious of me?!? I agree Gazchap's excuse for 'not remembering' sounds dodgy, both parts of it, but as I just said I have made casual reference to it (and I picked up on your photosynthesis comment).

To be honest it was mainly because you're a leaf scientist. I don't mean to look down on you or anything but c'mon, couldn't be bothered finishing your studies or something?! I did a masters degree followed by Phd (if that's what makes you a Doctor) and I'm now Doctor Gilly, photsynthesis expert extraordinaire which encompasses the study of leaves. You better not be on the same wages as me sonny Jim or I'm going to the union.
I have though reconsidered everything you have said since the Cylon attack began and accept that you have been trying to talk about leaves since before we got suspicious of non scientists amongst us. This proves to me you are a leaf geek who even in the midst of panic finds ways to bring leaves into the conversation. I also now understand why you are dressed like someone out the garden of Eden with a labcoat thrown on top of your fetching green ensemble. So I accept you are a scientist, if a rubbish one.

Regrettably for me, I didn't pay all that much attention to mine other than the bit that said "Scientist" in bold.

Looks dodgy, I'd agree, but 'tis the truth. Rather than stay silent about it I'd rather speak up, even if it puts my head on the proverbial chopping block.

For a specialist you're fairly clueless.

To be fair Mr Dom has already done that, so the cat's out of the bag.

We can look at peoples statements before that happened though - if they dropped a hint of their speciality then I'm hoping they can be trusted. If not, they're either Cylon or Soldier, or didn't bother to drop a hint. So the absence of it doesn't prove much.

So, we have learnt this:

1 hints could be real or genuine
2 not leaving a hint regarding science can be conspicuous or not

Excellent!

You appear to be sweating a little!

I think that the "dropped a hint" group are quite likely to be scientists and therefore can probably be trusted. This is useful info.

The "didn't drop a hint" group we have nothing more to go on than what else they have said, even if they claim to have a PhD in something when asked.

IMHO.

I think that its quite possible that people will have been given 'cover' jobs as well so it may not help

Ahh , as we're all talking about what we did before let me introduce myself - I'm a scientist , and my speciality is the wonderful bit of the plant that exists below the surface , commonly referred to as the Root of the plant.

I did try to make a wonderful pun of it when I first spoke last night (about getting to the Root of the problem) , however I was quite disapointed that no-one picked up on that :-(

Perhaps one of you other scientists could tell me why your so interested in the bit of the plant thats visible to anyone instead of the amazing parts that are hidden to everyone but the most curious

See, I thought that pilots would prefer to try and not drop hints since the people who tend to look closest for those types of things are the people we don't want finding them.
Hence why we didn't appear to get any hints from Curio and then suddenly a role claim (if he is indeed a pilot). If he dropped hints he risked only the bad guys picking up on it and appears to have decided that if they were potentially going to do this, then it would be safer to just out himself to everyone.

Just popping my head out of the cockpit I'm repairing to say that we're surely worse off if we identify all the scientists, as the Cylons will then strike at the remaining military members and have a better chance of infiltrating us.
