I'm strangely miffed that my mod powers to this subforum have been removed already. Talk about strict, what am I going to do, go crazy and unlock threads? Have a little trust, people. Pffft.

Can this subforum be blocked against guest visitors? I don't think anyone would go the trouble of registering a new account just to cheat, but if you sit down at a computer that isn't logged into Beex and click the "Active Topics" thread it can be easy to wander in here by accident.

No, he's immune to Bite (because he doesn't sleep in his bed) but not to the childe kill action. So the Vampires can off him.

The serial killer only needs to kill 5 people now? If this is going to be a more careful and slow game then that might be a bit easy. Although I know nothing.

Anyhooo, looking forward to this. :smug:

And stay alive. This is probably the bit I'm most hazy on. I did consider doing a points system -- 1 point for a townie, 2 points for anyone with a role, 3 points for a vampire -- and, say, 15 points for the win. That's a bit complicated though, but it does have the advantage of encouraging the serial killer to be careful about picking his targets.

Dangnabit, maybe 5 is too low...

I moved this thread up out of the Dead Zone until the game starts as I suspect not everyone can see it there. I'll move it back on Monday though.

I perhaps should mention that obviously I'll be re-running the random number generator before the game starts, so no-one should get any ideas.

Thinking from a role playing angle then surely all the serial killer is interested in is killing people and keep killing people. I just assume it was fun role to spice things up a bit.

It has been, yes. But it's almost unwinnable as a role and I don't like that much. The idea was to somehow make the serial killer want to stay alive, so he will always help out whichever group is losing; as it plays into his hands to provoke a long running stalemate where possible. This means he acts as a balancing factor, which mitigates somewhat against the healthy dose of luck all these games contain.

From a role playing angle, perhaps their urge to kill derives from some pattern need... he needs to kill five people in five ways or something. If whoever ends up in the role wants to play that, I think there's scope there for them.

Yes I am! It's going to be fascinating to watch all the manouvering from a position of knowing exactly who everyone is. I have my spreadsheet all laid out with name, role, night action, and night target by night.

If you read my rules carefully you'll also notice the night actions are carefully designed with a fairly small amount of overlap, so hopefully even the early night phases won't take too long to work out. I'm lazy like that :D

Nah. Guests can see the main MS forum, but not the dead zone.

*raises hand*

Mr Gaywood sir, at some point I think you had 21 players and you were going to run it like that rather than having a ballot. If you've still got room for one more, then I wouldn't mind in, because there's no point pretending that I'll get any more work done if I'm not playing.
I've played all 3 games so far though, so if you want to keep it at 20, then don't put me in the ballot at the possible expense of someone else, I'll be happy to miss out.

Shall I get the roles PMd out? And if I do, should we start the game over the weekend rather than wait until Monday? I suspect a lot of people, once they get their roles, will want to start.

Up to you, but given how random the first day is, it'll probably either be over before half the players see it or will stretch the whole weekend and be a bit dull. I'd wait until monday, sending the PMs out over the weekend.

Why not PM people's roles now and then start Monday. It then gives people the chance to ponder how they will play over the weekend.

And not because I want to know who I am, oh no.

Once you PM the roles, move this back into the dead zone and lock all threads in the main forum.

This is shaping up quite well - if I were Childe (and please point out the flaw in this if you see it)...

I'd kill someone the first night. The townsfolk won't be able to work out if it's the SK, the Vig or what - and chances are the Vig will have investigated, so there won't be too much noise.

And then if there was any heat at all, or perhaps even to stoke things up, I'd claim to have been bitten. Even if the Sire bites someone and his victim cries out, that'll just make two bitees. Then I might get protected, and that could leave me in the clear to bite or kill someone else on night two.

The townies look to be in a strong position, but I think that'll change as they cast around over the days.

I think I agree with this. It's certainly a valid strategy and as the townsfolk are (at least verbally) dismissing it that makes it valuable.

I have swapped PMs with the Sire who was panicking a bit about the 0-2 VHs thing that the vamps can't recruit. I don't think the Sire had thought of making the Childe claim they had been bitten to muddy the waters. I think your idea is valid, at the possible risk that the first Childe -- the one who cries wolf -- gets rumbled later in the game. By that point hopefully the Sire have several Childe in your clan and the loss of one isn't too bad.

I'm very pleased with how this is panning out so far. This latest post by vegetables, where he solidly argues counter to everything that's been discussed so far, I think demonstrates there is enough ambiguity in the rules to keep everyone guessing. I hope I haven't gone too far and made it too hard to play, but I guess the proof of that won't be in until the end of the game. I'm glad I added the NoLynch option though.
