This does not apply to the utter carnage that is Grim...'s SuperScum rules.

I think we need to motivate the bad guys to speak out more. It's too easy to be quiet and coast through, and it's not fair to single out quiet people for lynching. I've come up with a few options:

  • Play a game over IRC, or with strict time limits and all players able to commit to being online in fixed slots. Rather impractical, could be fun as a one-off alternative.
  • Give the town more investigative powers so the baddies have to get moving much more quickly -- they know they will get rumbled as the game progresses.
  • Play the original MafiaScum rules, where a day doesn't end until there's a nolynch vote. Thus, the lynch is far more powerful than the mafia kill action. However, the town also doesn't find out they've killed all the Mafia until they vote nolynch, so they could rampage on and kill half a dozen of their own needlessly...

For the second point, I'm considering something like this. Give the town 1-2 investigative roles as usual. The outcome of each investigation is leaked to a randomly chosen other townie. Then, give another 1-3 townies the Mysterious Blogger role; any investigation result leaked to a Blogger will be announced by the GM for everyone to see. That ought to make the bad guys shake a leg, get off their bums, and start pitching for a day 1 lynch.

He does. I will make this clearer.

Add me in to the bottom of the list again. I've had some fun ideas for a new game.

I can't do my speedy one until The Doctor can help. I'm happy to run a vanilla one (mafia, townies, SK, cop and doctor) depending on what Lacey and M/D say.

I need to work out whether or not to do a fun gimmick game as before, or the possible horrific failure of a Double Blind game.

Double Blind being that people don't know who they are, or what they could be?

Yes. Mostly the rules would be a simple set (Mafia, Town, Cop, Doc, SK, maybe one or two others for the sake of confusion). Nobody knows the precise set (apart from me) and nobody is told who they are (though I will know).

During the night phase EVERYONE sends me their action, which can be "target X" or "find a friend". The latter option allow potential Mafia/Masons to start talking with each other.

I just love the idea of someone being convinced that they have a kill role, when it's just that someone else has chosen the same person as them.

:)

I'd also be tempted to begin with a night phase, but that would be very harsh on whoever got killed.

I wouldn't mind running a game, although I'd need to have a think about rulesets etc. so it wouldn't be for a while.

I am not sure where I stand on this.
Id still like to do a game but there was no affirmation of anyone helping me out this week so Ill have to pass the mantle. I would not like to be dropped to the back of any queues as I've waited ages to play my ruleset.

Hwoever I understand that I either need to be available or have help, neither of which are forthcoming right now. I cant reasoanbly expect to run one until July I spose now.

Cheers.

In that case it's a TBC game from myp, or Malc and Duds doing their two-mafia game.

If Malc and Duds can't, the Doc and I won't be able to do our super-speed MS game. But I am happy to run a 'plain' game if needs be. See what Malc and Dudley say, I guess.

What a bloody good idea. I am happy to run this from Monday, if everyone wants?

Usual MS rules, except that at the end of each day, the vote is to expel someone from the party, or have their journalism license revoked if they are not a party member:

Quote:
Party leader - You are the leader of the Frabjous Anarchists party. You know the identities of the Spin Doctor and the Chief Whip and you can communicate amongst yourselves. You have no night action. Your win condition is Loyalist.

Quote:
Party faithful - You are the rank and file of the Frabjous Anarchists party. You have no night action. Your win condition is Loyalist.

Quote:
Spin Doctor - You are skilled at deflecting the most scurrilous of gossip. Once per night you can identify a player to protect. That player will be immune to any slanderous attacks that night. Your win condition is Loyalist.

Quote:
Chief Whip - You can compel the vote of any party member. Once per night you can name a party member, and the next day that person must vote to expel whoever you nominate. They are allowed to disclose that they are under the Whip, publically or in private if they are allowed to communicate. Your win condition is Loyalist.

Quote:
Backbench rebels - You are seasoned campaigners, and want control of the party. You are well able to build a case against another party member who you wish expelled from the party. Once per night one nominee can PM me the name of a player, and that player will be forced to resign due to your allegations. Your win condition is Rebel.

Quote:
Dedicated Journalist - You can investigate one person per night, and you will find out their exact role. During any one night phase, you can decide to throw your lot in with one side or the other permanently and pass them a secret portfolio. They are then all given access to everything you have found out without revealing your identity. Your win condition is either Rebel or Loyalist depending on the choice you make.

Quote:
Muckraker - Once per night, you can dredge up/manufacture enough salacious evidence about one of the other players to force them to resign in disgrace, unless they are protected by the Spin Doctor. Your win condition is Muckraker.

Win Conditions:
Loyalist - All the rebels are ousted from the party.
Leader - Loyalist, plus must survive to the end.
Rebel - You outnumber the loyalists, allowing you to vote one of your own in to lead the party.
Muckraker - You must successfully smear 5 politicians, although you automatically win if you knock off the Party Leader

Comments on rules for AliensScum, please:

GOOD GUYS

1 Ellen Ripley
Win Condition: Marines
Ripley has no night action, but has grown so attached to Newt that, should Newt die at any point during the course of the game, she will be so overcome with grief that she will kill herself. If Newt is captured by the Aliens, then she will be overcome with rage and can PM God every night with the name of one player. If that player is an Alien, Ripley will kill them.

1 Newt
Win Condition: Marines
Newt has no night action, but has grown so attached to Ripley that, should Ripley die or be captured at any point during the course of the game, she will be so overcome with grief that she will kill herself.

1 Private Hudson
Win Condition: Marines
Every night, Hudson can choose a player from those left alive and PM God with their username. He will then be told if that player is an Alien.

1 Corporal Hicks
Win Condition: Marines
As an expert in tactics, Hicks can choose one player every night and PM their username to God. If that player has a night action, their night action will be blocked. If the player he selects is an Alien, all Alien night actions are blocked.

8-12 Colonists
Win Condition: Marines
These colonists managed to survive on Hadley’s Hope by barricading themselves inside a disused storeroom. They have no night action.

BAD GUYS

1 Alien Queen
Win Condition: Aliens
The Alien Queen co-ordinates attacks from the Alien hive. She can communicate freely with other Aliens. Every night, the Queen must PM God with the name of a player to attack. The first night, she must also decide whether to KILL or CAPTURE the named player.

Killing a player removes them from the game entirely.

Capturing a player turns them into Aliens. When a player is turned into an Alien, they will be told as such by PM. They will also be told the identity of the Alien Queen, but NOT any other Aliens. It is up to the Alien Queen whether she tells new Aliens who the other Aliens are. Upon being captured, a player’s win condition changes to Aliens.

Once the decision to kill or capture has been made, subsequent attacks will alternate between the two. For example, if the Queen kills a player on night 1, they must capture on night 2, then kill on night 3 and so on.

If the Alien Queen is killed at any point, a new Queen will be picked at random by God from the other Aliens left in the game.

3-4 Aliens
Win Condition: Aliens
Aliens have no special powers as such, but can communicate freely with other Aliens, including the Queen.

1 Carter J. Burke
Win Condition: Company
Burke wants to smuggle an Alien back through ICC quarantine for the bioweapons division at Weyland-Yutani. The only way he can do this is to plant facehuggers in player’s sleeping quarters.
Of course, every human must be impregnated to ensure success and to avoid snitches.
Burke must PM the name of a player to God every night. If that player is an Alien, nothing will happen. If that player is a human, the facehugger will impregnate them and Burke will place them into hypersleep for the remainder of the game, removing them from play.

Win Conditions
Marines: All Aliens are dead.
Aliens: Enough humans (including Burke) are either dead or captured to prevent a majority vote.
Company: All humans are facehugged.

Two comments - Burke's role looks too easy ? - one night he has to target a human and he wins ? - maybe he needs more than one , or maybe he needs to target an 'alien captured human' ?

And maybe just me but I'd swap Hudson and Hicks ("Hudson - Run a bypass")

And yes, I've buggered up Hicks and Hudson, they're supposed to be the other way around.

Of course, I did this on purpose because of the "Hudson, sir. He's Hicks" bit in the film ;)

Honest.
