Maybe the next sign-up thread should have a poll asking players if they want to play MafiaScum or GothamScum?

But different players would sign up to both, surely? Blind Mafia is full of complexness, and I'd be slightly reluctant to lose that. It's mostly hidden, so perhaps it's less of an issue.

I'm not sure I understand you. I was just saying that the people playing should choose whether we play vanilla MafiaScum or GothamScum next.

Do you mean the people who've already signed up? Because some people might sign up just to play GothamScum, and then be sad if it's decided the game is a no-go.

Well, I was assuming all the people who signed up would be prepared to play either game, but would have a preference for one or the other.

Basically, I'm ready to play GothamScum. I think the rules are okay. I may tweak them slightly before the game and there are probably some typos that need clearing up, but I doubt I'll do anything major with them.

I've also got my spreadsheets set up with placeholder player names.

I'm good to go, but if the majority of people would rather play a traditional game, I'm more than willing to step aside and drop down a place in the queue.

Hey ho.

Anyway, current GothamScum rules - including Arkham Asylum and a new Catwoman role - are attached.

I have a whole comic series of me being Batman, and Mr Dave being Robin. Craster and Mr Chris star, too.

It was written by a very, very unhinged man.

It is the ultimate in cleekyness, which was deliberately done to exclude others who weren't on the relevant forum at the time.

And to make out like Grimand Dave are gay for each other. whcih they are.

Additional villain for GothamScum.

Quote:
Poison Ivy - You are Poison Ivy, friend of the tree, enemy of humanity. You have developed a serum that will turn all those horrible polluting human beings into friendly plants. However, it requires that you put the right amount of serum into the Gotham water supply on seven non-consecutive nights. Any night that you are not role-blocked or in Arkham you will add some serum to the water supply. When you add the final dose of serum to the water supply all remaining players will turn into pretty green plants, Gotham will be at peace and you will have won. Your win condition is Poison Ivy.

Okay, so she might not be in the game - she's one of the many, many 0-1 characters of which there will only be a few - but you try arguing for a nolynch now...

I suggest a more masculine alternative if an man is picked for that role. How about "Poison Gary"?

My boss is out of the office next week, so it would suit me to have a shorter break than normal and start GothamScum on Wednesday. Might be a bit too soon, though, as it would only leave time for two or three day sign up.

Are we taking a break from the *scum games. I'd like to run a different kind of game entirely* but want to chat things over with a mod to see if it is possible first.

*Would take 5 (real) days or so, only though with a sense of humour and an ability to humourously stab people in the back need apply.

I figure a 3 week break or so before I do my game. Let me know what you want to do, I'm sure we can accomodate most reasonable requests.

You are a Plissken. You enthusiastically join in all the games, never quite knowing whether you are accurately reading the game or thrashing around blindly for the amusement of others. Each night you will nominate one person who you think is the Chief Bad Guy. As you will always be wrong, it doesn't matter what you are told by the moderator. Just as you think you are getting to take part in the climax of the game, you will be killed. Your win condition is Miraculous.

Actually I ought to add in that I'll not be killed by the Mafia as they keep spelling my name wrong.

Some ruleset musing.

Lots of people feel that vanilla townie is a boring role, but of course, the rules pretty much all need a bunch of vanilla townies to work. To address this, an ultra-conservative ruleset, for your consideration.

There are only two roles, Mafia and Townie. Play proceeds as all the other games (daytime vote for a lynch, night time Mafia kill someone). However, there is one crucial modification, which is actually taken from the very first Mafia game. The day does not end at the first lynch -- it ends only after a nolynch vote (which just takes a straight majority, not a 75%). And the game does not end during the day ever -- the only way for the Townies to find out if there is a Mafia still is to have a night phase.

This way, the night kill ability of the Mafia is much diluted. This means the Mafia have to rely on co-ordinated arguments and block voting much more. That in turn draws them more out into the open, meaning the vanilla townies have more to go on and can hopefully contribute much more to the game. Also they cannot rely on any pro-Townie night roles at all; it is all about the arguing. Plus, if they get it wrong, they could kill all the Mafia then accidentally hang a bunch more Townies whilst on a witch hunt!

I think this address the problem in the current games, which is that the Mafia mostly just stay quiet-but-not-too-quiet and the Townies hang each other.

Thoughts?

Surely most of the bad stuff currently is as a result of town mislynching. In your scenario, wouldn't the town just be more likely to string up all their own.

I think we've been more interested in giving the town action roles and less interested in giving them investigation roles so far. The town spend too much time blundering around.

How about a game with 5 mafia, 5 masons, and 10 vanillas, with the exception that the masons can kill in the same was as the mafia.

So essentially you'd have an even town vs. mafia kill-off, with the 10 remaining vanillas providing a good place for each faction to hide. Or a variation of this with other roles. Something like that.

The idea is that the Mafia have to rely on the lynchings too, as they get far less night kill actions than in the other games. That means they cannot afford to stay silent -- they need to act. In turn, that provides more evidence for the townies to sniff out.

These are actually the original Mafia rules, the one that Russian psychology professor wrote.

No, I love it - but without there being power roles around, there's very little for a townie to go on. You need people to be acting suspiciously.

I don't mind being a townie, but in game 2 when I was and died pretty early I lost interest after that point.
Did we even have a chat thread for that one?
