They're not done with this.

Given the scope of the previous patches (ie. huge), "our biggest update yet" is potentially massive. Also note: looks like it's getting an Xbox One release.

I bought this for cheap ages ago but never played it. I'll wait for the new patch then.

I bought it for cheap ages ago, played it for a fe hours and haven’t touched it since. My main recollection is that it’s very chilled, but looks inexplicably lo-res.

EXCITE this speculation isn’t baseless; it’s based on some vague hints in the ARG that Hello Games runs

With their track record it probably means you've got to buy a second monitor and then sellotape both of them to your head.

Another hefty update

The game looks vastly different to the thing I played for a few hours ages ago. I have a number of games to finish (God of War, Mad Max, Shadow of the Colossus), but I'm really looking forward to giving this a proper go.

I downloaded it and started again yesterday. It's a lot prettier than it was, and the base building stuff seems fun.

It seems to have decided that people want to grind a lot less, too. In my first couple of hours I found a new ship worth 50x what my starting ship was worth and got given a new, much more functional multitool.

I'd imagine so. The only exceptions to "you need PS+ for multiplayer" I can think of are all games that have their own subscription.

Oh yeah, I guess Warframe too, and some others probably.

Turns out to do need Live Gold to play Fortnite though.

Jesus, he makes some apologies for them at the start. They flat-out lied about what the game contained - even after it was released. There's no fucking way they should be forgiven for that.

That Sean Murray guy is funny, he reminds me of the Iraqi General who said the war was won for the Iraqis as American tanks were blowing up the shit out of everything in the same camera shot.

I wouldn't rule out giving this game a go, it always had potential to be something impressive IMO.

Comical Ali.

Weirdly, the Yanks called him Baghdad Bob, but that just shows their lack of anything resembling humour.

Managed to spend a couple of hours on it last night. Spawned on a lovely hot poisonous planet and died within 15 mins as I grappled with what the hell I was supposed to do.

Once I got to grips with the basics I was happily romping around in caves, feeding duck cows, 'talking' to a frogman and repairing my ship.

Love it.

I'm meant to be playing God of War, which I'm enjoying a lot. But I just feel like NMS is the experience I want to have right now, given the travails of real life (Brexit etc.)

So I may leave GoW hanging and dive into my own space odyssey.

How the hell do you manually save your game? I went through the "tutorial" last night and got far enough that I got into my repaired ship and flew off to another planet, and then promptly got killed by a hostile creature, which respawned me right in front of the hostile creature again so I just got stuck in a death loop - and as it seems to autosave when you respawn, I've now had to basically start again from scratch.

Author:  Doctor Glyndwr [ Sun Jul 29, 2018 15:59 ]
Post subject:  Re: No Man's Sky

It autosaves every time you leave your ship. It can manually save if you build a savepoint, which is under the build equipment option (up on the d-pad while on foot.)

Can you not reload the autosave then run back to the ship before dying? Creatures generally can't do much damage to your ship.

Started again now anyway, but yeah I could do - I’d died too many times though so I could no longer recover my stuff from a previous gravesite.

Still annoys me when games make you jump through hoops to manually save your progress - just give me a quick save or something that can only be loaded once, if nothing else.

Author:  markg [ Sun Jul 29, 2018 18:23 ]
Post subject:  Re: No Man's Sky

You can also manually save at any of the beacon things that are everywhere.

Post subject:  Re: No Man's Sky

The first 90 minutes or so didn't set my world on fire, I understand it's like an extended tutorial but there's an awful lot of busywork and running around and making bits of crap to stay alive and not really getting much of a sense of a wonder about the universe you've been placed in.

I also don't understand why those 'sentinel' things are all over the place, and then if you alert one you just have to run away as going toe-to-toe with a mining laser isn't exactly gripping combat.

The music is very nice although the graphics are mostly 'OK to good' (I do appreciate they're a small developer so it's not going to be another God of War in the aesthetics department).

I'll have another go at it this evening, I didn't get quite as far as fully fixing my ship (I've fixed most of it) so maybe it gets better once I start flying around.

PSA: the sound track is done by 65daysofstatic who generally do very good stuff. 'Wild Light' is, in my opinion, the best of their proper albums if you fancy checking them out. myp and I are actually going to see them when they tour in November.

I played some more of this last night. I got my ship working and followed a distress beacon to another planet. Once I got to the new planet I had to start collecting things to make other things, so I ran around with my mining laser to collect things and went into a cave and scanned lots of stuff and collected some new things and it was a bit dull so I played EVERYBODY'S GOLF instead.
