Russell and I had a day out shopping today, and he said to me 'you can always tell when you've recently seen Craster'. I asked how, and he said 'because you say 'I know, right?!' A lot for a while afterwards, then it wears away until you see him again. :)

Is it now ok to speak of Myanmar rather than Burma? Just heard them use it on Radio 4.

Yeah. We discuss it a fair bit at work, and always use Myanmar.

Myanmar is the official name. We as a country just call it Burma because we don't officially like the people who changed the name.

I'm sure I'm late to the party here, but what on earth is going on with this new PIN-less payment method in shops? At Waitrose last night and somewhere else a few days ago all I had to do to pay was tap my card on the card reader. WTF happened to any idea of security? No PIN, no signature, no nothing.

Where does risk lie there now?

It is up to £15 or £20 isn't

I can see your point, but it is no less secure than that old sign days

Yeah, it's for sub-20 quid transactions. Pretty sure the bank takes on the risk.

The bank does indeed take the risk. And considering that half the world actually thinks a signature is a method of transaction security, I'm not particularly bothered.

I'm fairly sure trying to copy someone's signature is a tiny bit more difficult than tapping a card on a machine.

That said, when I was in Dublin a few years back I got out my credit card to pay for dinner for a bunch of the family (big bill), and realised I'd forgotten to sign the back of the credit card, so I signed that in front of the waitress and then signed the bill :)

Anyway, very glad to hear the paybybonk is for a capped amount.

Random post #2 of the day - can anyone recommend good 360 games for 5 1/2 and 7 year old boys? Other than star wars lego, as we've got all of them.

You misunderstand. A signature isn't any kind of proof of authority to charge at all. A shop can issue a charge to your card with an unsigned receipt. I once signed for a meal with a picture of a cock and balls.

Minecraft? Really?

Obviously there are loads of Lego games to choose from, but as they get newer they rely more and more on good hand-eye coordination, which kids can find tricky.

Loads of the Kinect games are good, unsurprisingly.

Hi everybody!

(Hi Dr Nick!)

I've come across this rather ace site where some guy takes screenshots as 'art'. This is a link to the Shadow of the Colossus page but there's a fair amount of stuff on there, console, emulation and PC.

Click on this clicky and see for yoursen. I liked it, init.

I have just received training in what to do if armed nutters storm the building. In order of preference:

1) Get the fuck out
2) Hide under your desk
3) Kick 'em inna nuts

I wish I was kidding.

We used to have drills. Thing is, we'd always know they were drills and try and "overpower" the "terroitzzz" who weren't allowed to fight back.

To be fair, if you didn't know they were drills, you might smash a CRT over one of their heads, or similar.

I wish we had armed nutter drills. The most exciting thing that happens to us is that we all have to go and stand outside in the cold every three months when they test the fire alarms.

We have red bags under every desk, complete with water, dried army rations, whistles, glow sticks, a poncho, and other such bollocks.

No idea when this might be useful.

Really? That's awesome. I want a bag of emergency stuff. I'd be totally blowing the whistle when people were annoying me in meetings though.

Also bandages, plasters, a razor, a surgical mask, a comb and a ton of other useless shit. It's basically like Bear Grylls got told to make Xmas crackers.

Pretty sure I can see an emergency use for all of those things...except the comb. I've never felt one of my priorities in an emergency situation was sorting out my hair.

One of the things that's so wonderful about the fact I've actually met you a couple of times in the past is that I completely, 100% believe this story. No-one else here has questioned it either. And I think that's pretty cool.
