Tbh I have issues like that with my CV1. For example, I paused HLA and went out to the menu so I could take a screenshot of my very mature whiteboard content and when I went back in it was the generic white grid that you get when a game is loading. It was mirroring onto my monitor but I couldn’t get it working again without a reboot!

I decided there wasn’t enough in the larger one to justify the extra £100. You lose maybe 7.5 Gb to system stuff. But most games I’ve looked at seem to be hundreds of megs or a few GB at most. The 64 Gb one goes a long way.

The 128 is so rarely in stock it basically doesn’t exist right now, mind.

I know I'm talking to an audience of exactly one here (and that one, is me) but I managed to fix a persistent battery drain issue with the WMR controllers by dissembling and cleaning the battery contacts. Recodring for posterity.

There's my prediction. Remind me in 3 years to see if I was right, would you?

edit: I forgot haptics. Even a subtle feedback is awesome. The lightsabers humming in your hand was awesome

Managed to get the kids to try something other than Job Simulator yesterday. We played Waltz of the Wizard.

Well, I say we played it, but it was mainly me as it was "a bit creepy". We had fun roaming around the maze in one of the subgames, but as soon as the 'scary knight' appeared around the corner all three of us shared a collective pants-shitting moment.

Oculus Quest 2 now available for pre-order. £299 for the 64GB version, £399 for 256GB.

Snapdragon XR2, a significant improvement on the 835 in the original Quest.

4K resolution (well, almost)

90hz refresh rate (available later in the year, pegged to 72 like the original Quest at the moment)

Do Facebook have rule like Sony for PS4/PS4 Pro where titles can be optimised but still need to run on the old headset? If not that seems like a mightly short useful lifespan for non-pc-owning Quest 1 buyers.

I was tempted by the Index but it doesn’t seem to play well with iRacing at the moment without hacking, so I’m tempted by the HP Reverb G2. I’ll still have the Rift for room scale.

I’m trying to move away from Oculus anyway at some point. Deeper Facebook integration is coming in the next few years.

MS Flight Simulator was updated to support VR yesterday.

Apparently even with a top-of-the-line CPU and the RTX 3080 people are struggling to get over 40 frames per second

Same issue happened in iRacing back in 2015/16 when they enabled VR. Took a while until they optimised it.

All these inventions to escape from reality are both cool and strange at the same time. Yes, now, when not everyone can travel, it makes sense. But other times ... You have an entire planet to do something interesting. Expensive car racing simulators look especially strange to me. Many of these things are more expensive than you might think. The guys in Top Gear showed excellent how you can participate in real races with such a budget.
On the other hand, when you want to try a lot, modern computers and VR glasses allow you to try more on a tight budget.
Are there any good realistic games for those who want to feel like a space engineer?

After a bit of observation I think i can see where the Elite Strap for the Q2 is flawed in it's design.

Where it connects to the mounting points on the headset, the plastic arms seem to be constantly twisted by about 5 or so degrees as the human head (even normal sized ones) get wider behind the eye sockets. I guess the original plastic wasn't great under the tearing force of constant torsion.

We should have a bonce-off. I have to buy either L or XL hats and often find that one size fits all doesn't fit. As for those paper hats in crackers, forget it but I don't mind that so much.
