I have a shaped keyboard which makes locating keys without looking rather easy, so no problems here.

How many f keys will you need? I've managed to play games for years using various controllers without needing to look at them. 99% of PC stuff works with a 360 controller these days.

Well, with Oculus Rift I would be mostly interested in space sims and flight simulators, which traditionally use a combination of joystick and many, many keys.

You could use voice activation. Also I like the concept of mapping through kinect!

My old competition Counter Strike layout used every key I had.

Genius idea!

I really want to try Oculus Rift, but I really want the consumer version long term, rather than the dev kit, so I didn't want to waste my money on a dev kit.

Ebay has dev kits going for around £250-300. I buy one, I try it for a month or so, I re-sell it on ebay for a similar price!

See you in five, i'm off to the future of gaming...

Most people who have used one seem to have come away quite impressed and without headcahes, but those people are probably idiots.

Just looking through at stuff I want to try out.

Euro Truck Simulator 2
Eve: Valkyrie
Surgeon Simulator
Assetto Corsa

That should keep me happy. I'm imagining Surgeon Simulator is going to be hilarious. :D

Which is only open 9-5:30 during the week and 9-1 on Wednesdays!

I has it!

I shall post initial impressions as and when they happen...

Firstly, installing it.
That was really easy, plug it in, set it as duplicate monitor, run the calibration utility and away you go. I'm using the B lenses as i'm slightly short sighted, and they work well.

Tuscany Demo:
Screen door is very noticable. People say you look past it and don't notice it, that's utter bullshit, you can't help but notice it. Nice demo, standing up it really feels like you are there, impressive.

Don't let go:
All you have to do is hold onto the keyboard while stuff happens around you, this is the best thing I have tried, the graphics are simple and that helps with the low resolution a lot. I'm very impressed with this.

Euro Truck Simulator 2:
Managed about 2 minutes of this before nausea kicked it. I'll give it another go at the weekend. First impressions are that it is pretty much unplayable at the rift resolution, you really can't see fuck all as to what is going on. I did crash into a barrier while I was looking right on a roundabout, and it made me jump, so the immersion factor is starting to get there.

I'm now downloading a huge amount of random demos and shit to try over the weekend, and i'll try and get Asseto Corsa up and running with it I expect.

Current thoughts are that i'm glad I've tried it, and I'll almost certainly get the proper version, but I suspect the dev kit will be back on ebay in a couple of weeks, as the resolution is shockingly bad and really takes you out of any real immersion.

RiftCoaster:
MAde me feel mildly queasy. Not because I felt like I was on a rollercoaster, but just the motion of the image without any corresponding motion of myself. Not the most successful of the demos so far, didn't really feel like I was in the world.

VRPlayer:
A virtual cinema, and this is really fucking impressive. The first thing I've tried where it feels real (or as real as it can be with the low resolution). It does actually feel like you are sitting in a cinema. I wonder if this is the most impressive because it is something I know what to expect, and my brain fills in the gaps from experience?

Aye, assuming it is of a format it supports, which is currently the usual crop of AVI, MKV etc... I wouldn't actually want to watch anything properly though, as due to the res you lose a lot of detail, and it doesn't have the best codec built in, so is a bit choppy in framerate.

Sit back and explore the solar system. This is very nice, it's on autopilot but you can look around all you like and when you want to move on you just look at the play icon. Jupiter is fucking huge by the way! :D
Had a bit of a mindfuck moment where I had my arms crossed in my lap and I looked down, and my virtual dude had his arms resting straight out on his knees, my brain had a little bit of a WTF moment...

No, just I imagine there is detail you need to be able to see, such as readouts on your ship and other ships that are more than a few feet away. The Rift just isn't up to that yet, needs a much better screen.
