I missed this before in all the, ahem, excitement, but that's very true also Mali.
People just don't realise how fast bikes are; even my Harley VRod will do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and that's before tuning. A GSX-R will do it in around 2.5 secs.

Even the old air-cooled CVO will do it in around 4.2 secs I think, and that's an out and out lazy cruiser!

Oh yeah, I never try to race bikes. The only time I get annoyed is when someone on a scooter filters to the front and then takes forever to get away.

@Myp - yeah, that would've been me when I was an annoying 16-year old oik on my mate's Kwak AR50 'ped that did 45 flat out, I thought I was it. :DD

@Mali - do you reckon you'd fancy trying to do up the soft tail? Could be a bit of a money spinner, as once done up it'd likely be worth much more? Dunno if these are your thing though, you're a young blade.

Bit of everything. Started out as a motorbike blog and now have their own place in Shoreditch with food, drink, barbers, shop, meets, events etc.

I've been there a couple of times for meetings but don't know enough about biking etc to judge them on owt.

Just wondered if my work had reached further than their back yard so to speak, haha :DD

Blimey small world Gaz, that is our flippin' local! Cannot fault the food or ale and Gary the landlord's a great bloke (total petrolhead, loves bikes, pub is full of racing car pics from Oulton etc. as you know)
How about meeting with Jem & Mrs C also when I get the CVO next month and the weather's better? :)

Only pub I know where you can order a half-dozen shucked Mersey oysters and a bottle of DP -or- an awesome steak & kidney suet pudding with chips and gravy, washed down with an immaculate pint of Weetwood ale, BOTH just as good!

@Jem, got a link? :)

It has crossed my mind. Old Man Afterthought has a bike trailer I could borrow (and the camper van to pull it). If it doesn't start it could be a battery, starter, fuel pump or plugs I guess. I might drop him a note on it, and see how busy he is. If he isn't, he could pick it up on his way to see us.

Thanks Jem, I've checked out that site in a little more detail now, excellent. :)

I've always been a total, total sucker for a Cafe Racer - almost as much as Hogs - and here they review the new, mouthwatering Triumph Thruxton-R (it's a 1200 parallel twin). What a beautiful bike that is. :)

http://thebikeshed.cc/2016/03/18/ross-o ... hruxton-r/

I've always loved the Thruxton but baulked at the drops and silly riding position, but looks like they've really sorted this out. What a fabulous, fabulous machine; you just know that big bore Brit twin is gonna sound great with an Arrow exhaust...

British Racing Green, please

That Harley is ridiculously cheap, so as long as it's not nicked, you should snap it up.

In further news from the Department of Planning ahead:

I changed the battery. Key in, and the lights lit up. Full choke applied, quick prayer and hit the starter. It caught on the 7th time. I cheered. I cheered again. My foot was wet. I looked down. Needs a new oil filter.

Yeah, you can see how the Jap bikes took over the world, they are amazingly engineered and so reliable. The Harley would've thrown its toys out of the pram years before (and probably would've actually seized by now, let alone started up)

It took some huffing and puffing and some 3 in 1 to roll it back so the exhaust was outside the garage (I did not want to risk a backfire inside)in you but time will tell.

@Grim..., yeah chopped in the Rod mate, partly for financial reasons but also, because bikes have to be ridden, not kept in garages. I barely have enough time to ride one; had two bikes before now and it didn't work

I do not understand motorbikes as most people I know who gave had one has come off to some injury. I've been in the back of one once, about three miles at what was a billion miles an hour down the North Circukar Road. Not for me. Also, leather trousers are very warm.

My sister was a biker. She used to work at the Ace Cafe in London (also on the North Circular Road) which is some kind of biker cafe, until she was banned for life from going in the place because of bad behaviour. I gave no idea what you could possibly do to get banned for life from a biker cafe, and she won't tell me :DD

Well, I suppose a close analogy would be thrill sports - snowboarding's dangerous, people frequently get injuries but it's just an awesome buzz? Ultimately, what is life for, if not for living; life is all about risk. I'm just not the kind of guy to spend my days wrapped in cotton wool (or in a Honda Jazz for that matter :D ), and I suppose it helps that the missus isn't either - she was on the back of an RD-400 at age 14, just as I was messing with these, and other old lairy old deathtrap '70s strokers at 17-18 too. It gets in the blood and once it is, there's no cure. :)

Having said this, people who scare their pillions, especially if they're inexperienced and it puts them off bikes for life, are dicks IMO. You'd love it on the back of the Breakout, Meems, as she's a great big friendly pussycat, despite the mean looks. :)

As for warm leathers, well, you don't notice that if you're moving (albeit I only ever wear a Harley leather jacket, which is ventilated, plus drag jeans. Can't be arsed with 'Power Ranger' full leathers, plus they would not be in keeping with my big ol' cruiser lol).

It's quite a common attitude amongst bikers to try and scare passengers though. I've had people do it to me, and it's possibly even worse when you ride yourself as you *know* how badly they are riding.
