I missed this before in all the, ahem, excitement, but that's very true also Mali.
People just don't realise how fast bikes are; even my Harley VRod will do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and that's before tuning. A GSX-R will do it in around 2.5 secs.

Even the old air-cooled CVO will do it in around 4.2 secs I think, and that's an out and out lazy cruiser!

2 years too late, but I had no idea you frequented this place. I always make a point of stopping off there for a drink/meal whenever I'm coming back to Shrewsbury on the A49 - great place.

It has crossed my mind. Old Man Afterthought has a bike trailer I could borrow (and the camper van to pull it). If it doesn't start it could be a battery, starter, fuel pump or plugs I guess. I might drop him a note on it, and see how busy he is. If he isn't, he could pick it up on his way to see us.

That Harley is ridiculously cheap, so as long as it's not nicked, you should snap it up.

Yeah, you can see how the Jap bikes took over the world, they are amazingly engineered and so reliable. The Harley would've thrown its toys out of the pram years before (and probably would've actually seized by now, let alone started up)

I do not understand motorbikes as most people I know who gave had one has come off to some injury. I've been in the back of one once, about three miles at what was a billion miles an hour down the North Circukar Road. Not for me. Also, leather trousers are very warm.

My sister was a biker. She used to work at the Ace Cafe in London (also on the North Circular Road) which is some kind of biker cafe, until she was banned for life from going in the place because of bad behaviour. I gave no idea what you could possibly do to get banned for life from a biker cafe, and she won't tell me

Having said this, people who scare their pillions, especially if they're inexperienced and it puts them off bikes for life, are dicks IMO. You'd love it on the back of the Breakout, Meems, as she's a great big friendly pussycat, despite the mean looks.

It's quite a common attitude amongst bikers to try and scare passengers though. I've had people do it to me, and it's possibly even worse when you ride yourself as you *know* how badly they are riding.

Well, I suppose a close analogy would be thrill sports - snowboarding's dangerous, people frequently get injuries but it's just an awesome buzz? Ultimately, what is life for, if not for living; life is all about risk. I'm just not the kind of guy to spend my days wrapped in cotton wool (or in a Honda Jazz for that matter ), and I suppose it helps that the missus isn't either - she was on the back of an RD-400 at age 14, just as I was messing with these, and other old lairy old deathtrap '70s strokers at 17-18 too. It gets in the blood and once it is, there's no cure.

As for warm leathers, well, you don't notice that if you're moving (albeit I only ever wear a Harley leather jacket, which is ventilated, plus drag jeans. Can't be arsed with 'Power Ranger' full leathers, plus they would not be in keeping with my big ol' cruiser lol).
