The animation of the little girl in the prologue is incredible. All the little mannerisms, the way she walks around, etc...

Yeah, it was more this than ("the bit that followed" - Ed) that impressed me.

I started playing this in anger last night. It's incredible, isn't it? It's also the only game I've ever known that my girlfriend is quite willing to watch being played, which is something too.

Those clickers are bastards though, aren't they?

It took me almost forever to take out that room in the tilted skyscraper, where there's a clicker and 4 runners. Even the clicker infested subway station wasn't that tough.

i got past that bit no problem by sneaking up on a couple of the zombies and then running around shooting and running away whenever someone got close. The subway bit took forever though! I was spectating and my gf kept throwing bottles at the wall she was standing beside by mistake :) I ended up having a go and walked round the whole area without being able to find where to go next, then suddenly she realised :D. It's really quite creepy and scary sometimes! I went to bed without playing anymore of my game last night because I didn't want to sit up myself at night time in case I got scared!

What's the best deal on a PS3 these days? Are they fine to get second hand, or is it worth getting a new one? This game interests me.

Not that many deals out there at the moment
£200 for a super slim 500gb seems to be the best
http://www.game.co.uk/en/playstation-3- ... fier=10468

Mine is a second hand 40gb full fat, that is still working. Gets very noisy fan wise every so often though :D
Occasionally the 12gb super slims go for around £120 new, i'm going to get one of those and put my own hard disk in it when it does fail, I expect.

I got mine last week, went to Game unsure what I was buying. Could get a new super slim (500gb I think) for £199.99 but I went with a slim 120gb preowned for £140. The staff then said that I was allowed to choose two preowned games from the two for twenty section included in the price, so I chose the second Batman game and Heavy Rain, then I also bought Fifa 13 for Jen and I got uncharted 2. I'd already played the first and loved it and the third is free on PS+.
I went back yesterday and bought this game.
The preowned console is great, it's in great condition and everything and comes with a 12 month guarantee which suits me fine since despite my best intentions, I will be completely distracted by the new consoles when they come out and so I doubt it will get much playtime past Christmas. The website said they are all refurbished when they get traded in and I would question that, although the casing and everything looked perfect, they hadn't performed a reformatting(!) so the previous owners login, picture, music and games were all still there. I just wiped it myself and created my profile though and it actually reassured me I'd bought a console from someone slightly older than me who looked fairly respectable rather than a jakey ned :) with the guarantee I wasn't too bothered.
Only thing I will say is if you are planning on downloading a lot of games from psn, bigger is always better. I am nearing my limit of space, but I went crazy and downloaded to a of stuff and now I've played some ill delete it.

Out of stock for the last one that Lewie had up

http://savygamer.co.uk/2013/06/06/sony- ... 0gb-94-99/

Which was only £95

You could get a more basic one for about £110 / £120 from Amazon (2nd hand) - although you might want to try a game shop since you can see what it looks like and how much abuse it looks like its had.

Thanks for the help.

I'd likely get killed for buying one, and I never get to play video games anyway, but it's nice to dream.

Also, having a media player for the TV that isn't louder than war and prone to overheating and crapping out (my 360 is on its last leg) would be nice.

Mine, on the other hand, is rather silent. About the same as my new 360 slim.

My PS3 fat is much quieter than my 360 and has never conked out over the 5 odd years or however long I've had it. Plus, I quite like the shape of it too. Upright, it's quite lovely to look at. In moderation.

Mine is about as noisy and has also never conked out, but then it's had about 1/1000th of the use.

I may just have been unlucky then but my original 360 was an elite and was pretty quiet , and the replacements (a late arcade and a slim) were both pretty silent , but my original PS3 was reasonably noisy and got *really* noisy when it was under load.

This was one of the first batch of PS3's so may just have been as noisy as some of the early 360's

more praise for the acting from me for the scene inside the building. Was feeling pretty tense while sneaking around in there as well, so I chucked a bottle into the middle of the room to attract the baddies then threw a Molotov at them.

I finished this on Monday. It was fairly awesome.
Overly violent at times but that didnt worry me, but I can see some criticism being levied there.
Touching story at times, wont bother writing spoilers even hidden ones.
Suffice to say, the intro hit me hard, and it was replicated a couple more times later in the game.

Truly some stunning graphics in here to boot.
Its not 10/10 and not game of the generation for me at least but it was worth the time and money, and thats a rarity these days.

If anyone wants my copy, mint, played to completion in 3 sittings and never left the console, let me know.
Mint apart from a tiny bit of water damage to the sleeve (damn cat knocking over glasses). £30?

edit - network code unused

I haven't played any more of this, just didn't want to. Hired it out five days ago and it's due back today, won't be bothering to buy it or hire it out again. I think it might be more of a gaming malaise caused by the nice weather. I'd rather be out doing anything than sat playing games. But that said in the end it just didn't grab me at all.

42% through and i'm on a bit that has to be done stealthily and I keep getting killed as I really don't have the patience for that shit.

This might be it for me, it was fun while it lasted.

Where do you see your percentage? Every stealthy bit I've come across so far can be done with weapons if you get noticed. Otherwise, just sprint away and hide then chuck a bottle to distract them. Of course, I'm saying this and you could very well be away ahead of me at a part where stealth is essential. I'll say vaguely where I am in the spoiler.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I've just encountered my second...bloater is it? Big and fat and spits at you.

Anyway, when I start finding a bit tough I revert back to my favourite technique. Chuck a few bottles to get them all in the same area then fling a Molotov or bomb at them.

That whole last level was very well thought out. Nicely paced, filled with a couple of moments and a nice race to the finish. Great stuff. This reminds me of Resi 4 in lots of ways.

That talk in the other thread reminds me that I keep seeing a picture of a controller periodically tapping the floor.

I only just figured out last night that I was shaking the batteries to keep the torch alive! Took me over 5 hours to figure that out. Well done me.

I'm trying to ignore most of this thread as I don't want anything inadvertently spoiled.

This is really well paced. I've not found any 'level' to drag so far. I've found the

to be hard as nails, but every time I've been killed I've thought it was fair enough.

It reminds me of Resi 4/5 mixed with the early levels of Manhunt so far. x100.

Very atmospheric and the voice acting and graphics are stunning. Loving it so far.

I've got into this a bit now. I think my problem with it was that I just wasn't in the mood, it's not a criticism of the game but I just found the mood so oppressive that I wasn't looking forward to playing it.

Oh dear. I liked those two... As Ellie might say "that was intense" if predictable. Did anyone save both? Who did you save? Did you even think about it when you fired or was it just a reaction to who you could get a bead on first?

I did like the quick exchange and change of mood that follows shortly afterwards - the high five, the bear grave, the sadness... Very accomplished.

You can keep your Rapture's and your Liberty City: this world exists, or at least it did. The level of incidental detail is breathtaking. The house in the woods in particular is fascinating and I spent very little game time actually in it. I don't know why they bothered, but they did, and it ought be appreciated (I suppose).

I'm quite a bit further than that. I think I've clocked up 12 hours but I am playing it on hard and searching everything.

That was a weird freezing bug though. You try to go through a door (the hunt level) and the cut scene won't load. I managed to pause and skip movie just before it happened and it loaded the next scene. I went back to the main menu and loaded the cut scene from the gallery just fine. Weird. I suppose you should know you can work around it if it happens to you, as I couldn't find any reports on-line about it.

It reminds me now of Resi 4, Manhunt and now Max Payne 3. Love it.

Also, I tried sneaking up on someone with a gun in their face to see if they yield. They don't.

The E3 demo (I think) showed it where Joel had no bullets but he was faking having a loaded gun. They must have removed it from the final game. Shame.

I've been hooked on this for the last few days and now it's over.

It was fantastic. It does deserve it's 10/10's ( or thereabouts). It's a masterclass of game design. It had me on the edge of the sofa. It was great.

... right up until I didn't get the Trophy for completing it on hard cause I didn't do two levels on hard. Bastards.
