Another thing to show just how messed up the whole Xbox situation is

Right now Amazon have another one of their warehouse deals , which will knock 20% off virtually everything on their warehouse offers.

They have Xbox One S's available in that for £177

Take the 20% off that and its £141 for an 'in box' probably unopened Xbox one and I cant bring myself to press the button to get it

I read the other day that Microsoft have sold a whopping 5000 Xbox Ones in Japan. Just five thousand. I know Japan is a tough market for Microsoft but damn that's less than not a lot.

76,590 as of January apparently. So pitiful, but not quite as pitiful as you thought. The first chart on this page is especially hilarious:

I meant 5000 in 2017, apparently.

Folk in Japan don't tend to buy non-Japanese kit (as I'm sure we know).

Here's some more numbers: http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/

In Japan, the Wii sold 12.8m, the PS3 10.5m, and the 360 only 1.7m! You could probably argue that one console is better than the other, but none are five times better.

I think you'll find that the Atari Jaguar was 64 times better... or was it the CD32 that was 32 times better?

Either way, it definitely wasn't the Wii.

As a day 1 Atari Jaguar owner I think you'll find it was 2 x 32 times better :-)

(it had 2 32bit CPU's but they marketed it as a 64bit )

And its probably Atari your thinking of because they had a big marketing campaign about 'do the math'

Lucky you. Do you still have it? I have a Jaguar but I think I've only actually used it once. I have Wolfenstein for it.

Probably - however it will be in a box at my mums house

Only games I really remember for it are Cybermorph / AVP & Tempest 2000

I've still got mine with Doom, Aliens v Predator, wolfystein, Tempest and a couple others I think.

It was the first and only system I've ever played Doom on. SatFactFans.

I find it odd that it doesn't seem all that long ago when I was at a computer fair and Telegames had piles and piles of brand new Jaguar and Lynx consoles for £7 each and then Game got in on it and sold a load of them cheaply too, but now a boxed console will set you back £100+.

Here's the Games With Gold for August. What better time to start Bayonetta again?

The others are a bit pump though...

Sorry, you're right. I was thinking that it was another game.

I enjoyed the first two Trials games but I would have been totally happy if they were a third shorter. There's no way I'd ever complete some of the later levels.

In Akhibara, I went to the famous Yodabashi Camera which (despite the name) is an eight story department store selling every kind of electrical thing you can imagine. The PS Vita had six shelves of games and accessories, including one entire shelf dedicated to Vita games with busty schoolgirls in low-cut tops on the cover. (I'm not kidding.) As you'd expect the PS4, Switch, and DS sections dwarfed this. The Xbox One had, in total, 1.5 shelves of space.

I still cant pull the trigger on it , but if you want an Xbox one - Amazon again have a 20% off 'select' items in their warehouse deals

So the 'used' version they have with Quantum Break comes down to £112 , and the one with Fifa comes down to around £119

It is indeed a funny article and the points are well made, this one stands out for me:

Quote:
When you see it in motion it's a glorious thing, but it's basically a gaming PC in a nicer-looking box.

To my mind that was also true of the XBone and PS4 when they were released, and that's a convergence that's only continued IMO. (Hence me going with a Wii-U as it actually offered something different and unique.)

In all fairness to the XBoneX it's quite a lot of power for the cash, you certainly couldn't build a similarly specced PC for the same outlay, although 1TB isn't a whole load of storage with game installs routinely coming it at 60-70GB, and running everything from an old fashioned spinning platter won't be much fun either. (External SSDs connected by USB3.0 might be an option?) The CPU is still those horrible old Jaguar cores, albeit upclocked and with various optimisations. The GPU looks to be kicking as hard as a Radeon 580, which is a decent midrange PC part. (At the higher end of midrange, at that.)

Nothing about the thing even vaguely tempts me. If I do buy another console in the next few years, it'll be a Switch.

This is actually something the console is good at so I can't blame them.

If I understand this right, the different the Xbox X brings is better visuals for games , if you have a 4K TV? I read a while ago that the games will all be the same and whilst they look better with a 4K TV on the X you won't get anything else extra?

It's something like that I believe. All games have to run on all hardware variants (original/S/X), and the only differences can be in the visuals. (i.e. The game's feature set is the same.)

If you don't have a 4K telly you can use superscaling or supersampling or whatever it's called to make games look nicer on a 1080 set.

Not sure if it's permitted to have the game run at 30FPS on the base XBOne, but 60FPS on the X, or if the X is just allowed to have more shinies at 30FPS.

Like the idea of the hardware, but have no plans to get rid of my Pioneer Plasma so don't see a 4K TV coming into the house anytime soon.

Here's your Games with gold for October.

Already got those two as well - still, brilliant games for those that haven't played them.
A bit too short, in some ways - but I suppose if they'd been longer they might've started to outstay their welcome.

There's been an update to the Xbox One dashboard and I'm surprised to say, it's actually an improvement!

As well as your pins section you can now pin individual games to your homescreen. It's difficult to describe unless you know the software but so far, I like it.

It seems a decent bit faster than the old one, but some of the annoyances are still there - you still need to be online for half the damn thing to work, and some things are still in a few too many sub menus

Pins, at least, finally work without an internet connection. Achievements are still entirely inaccessible, though. If they could work on the 360, why can't we have them on the Xbox One?
It's better than it was when it first came out, but there's still a LOT that needs done better.
