What's that weird looking socket to the left of the switch? Also, clearly you now need some DISCO SLIPPAZ. |

Darwin has to take a hat to school, and we’ve lost his bucket hat in the move, so he’s only got a stiff straw one, and I thought a floppy bucket hat would be easier for him to hang on his leg. |

Yes, it's the MBJM one. They are now Waves and Wild, it should be a free download on their new website. https://www.wavesandwild.com/shop/sandc ... et-hat-ww/ I'd recommend using the two hat method where you make the two halves, sew them together inside out along the brim leaving a turning hole and stitch closed when you sew the lines on the brim. It's also recommended that if you use stretch, you downsize, but I haven't tried it myself. Would love to see your end product. |

Cheers jazzy, that’s really handy. I had searched that site and didn’t see the hat, so I must have missed it somehow. I’ll have a look through what fabric I have and hopefully find a couple of pieces bug enough x |

I can’t be arsed looking for the art thread. Pretty much finished this last night and am pleased with the speed with which it came together. Approx 60cm x 186cm, oil on canvas |

I finally got the craft room set up and the sewing machine in place. I made D a hat because his school have requested summer hats be sent and his has gone astray in the move. I thought seeing all the concentric brim circles would be tedious, but it was great fun and meditative. |

When I decided I was going to start painting again, one of my first decisions was to ditch off the shelf canvases. I don’t want to always paint square or 4:3 ratio. In fact I rarely do. And it’s not like I don’t own ALL the necessary tools to make stretchers |

DB that painting is just amazing, I could really Lise myself in it. Mimi, I love that hat! Did you use the same fabric for the lining? |

Trooper wrote: Look how neat and equal those lines are, and on a curve! I found a handy cheat was to just line the side of the presser foot up with the previous stitch line. That’s how I do all my seams as well. I set the needle to 1cm (or whatever the stated seam allowance is) away from the right side of the foot |
Mimi, I love that hat! Did you use the same fabric for the lining?
No, it’s lined in some plain blue. Well ‘lined’, it’s reversible like yours, but I reckon it’ll mostly be work orange side out. Don’t ask why this picture is so weird, but it’s the only one where you can see the lining. They’re just fabric scraps from a blouse and a quilt backing. Oh, and the 2-4 size was spot on, thank goodness. |

Just cotton lycra, it looks really nice. Unfortunately I was unable to topstitch them as my sewing machine has broken. |

Oh no!! Has it mechanically broken or is it not stitching/tensioning properly? |

Post subject: | Re: Crafty stuff |
Mechanically unfortunately. The stitch selector dial has broken. I can only sew zig zag stitch now. |

What a strange break. I’ve never seen anything fail like that before. Can you get a replacement dial, or are you having to take it in for repair? You’ve not had that long, have you? Hopefully it I s under warranty xx Edit: this might not be exactly the right one, but they’re about £5 https://eastman.co.uk/product/toyota-18 ... ny-series/ |

I think I might be able to fix it. I've had it a few years now, it it was second hand then. I've started to outgrow it now really, so this has pushed me to order something the next level up (keep an eye out in the new toy thread next week). I'm hoping to fix it though, it's been great to learn on and has a lot of extras, so if I can sell it on, the money can go towards my new one. |

Oooh, a bee machine. Can’t wait to see what you get. Fingers crossed on the new dial. I did see a place where you could print out stickers to fit a generic dial, but really you’d want that printed onto vinyl or something I think. |

Found one here. https://www.snuttsewing.co.uk/products/ ... titch-dial It's the exact right one, and I would feel better selling it on knowing it is fully working and less likely to break. I guess over the years the plastic has perhaps become brittle. I've ordered a Brother, completely new to me with a top loading bobbin. I'll need to set some time aside to learn it's ways of working. |

They’re a shade easier than a machine with a bobbin case, I think. Some people really prefer them, but I find them much of a muchness can’t wait to see the new shiny, though!!! |
