Mimi, you're so talented. That knitted blanket is gorgeous! There is a bigger version of the quilt I did, the dinosaurs are in a rainbow gradient, it's gorgeous.

I love the painted rocks, such a cute idea!

I’m doing a few a week and leaving them around the neighbourhood.

Whilst procrastinating the task of cutting a long rectangle of fleece for a scarf that school have requested for a video tomorrow (a job that would take maybe two minutes, tops) I made a whole Santa outfit.

Still haven’t cut out the scarf.

Excellent! Very nice tree decoration too!

Post subject:  Re: Crafty stuff

Thanks both. I got his school scarf made eventually, too. And some bags for the teachers’ Christmas gifts. And the Grinch sweater GJ mentioned.

@Zardoz I got a new crow for the tree this year, but it’s really hard to photograph. That tree looks more impressive in real life. It doesn’t photograph well, and I have just never been able to photograph Christmas trees.

Speaking of which, where is the Christmas tree thread...?

In a fit to appease my crafty side somewhat, I've cut out the fabric for some pyjama bottoms. I won't get to do any more now until next weekend at the earliest, but it felt nice to at least do something .

They’re going to be ace, Jazzy. Are they for you or Joans?

I’ve not done anything in forever, apart from make a few gloves and mittens.

The lady we bought the house from did leave us a handmade card, though:

They're for Joan's, I've been promising them for ages. He's eagerly awaiting new undies too. :D

Aww, that's really sweet. Do you have a list of projects you are hoping to do in the house?

Post subject:  Re: Crafty stuff

Not really. There are practical ‘must dos’ such as get some curtains, but in more ‘craft’ terms I want to make some labels for the plastic storage bins I’ve bought to go in the fridge and larder, but we’ve got to get some shelves in that larder first.

Hot glue gun?

If it's for light duty, they're less than a tenner.

I have carved a spoon. It's all wonky, and an awkward shape to actually use, and I haven't treated it yet so it isn't food-safe, but I am quite chuffed with it. I have a feeling everyone I know is going to be getting spoons for Christmas.

I made a baby blanket for Luna, our first grandchild. She is the most perfect, precious little thing and I can't wait to smoosh her squishy little face.

I'm currently making 3 other quilts, WFH is going slowly and poorly by the quilts are coming along nicely!

They are absolutely beautiful, Flis. What heirlooms they are.

Edit: I’ve just realised that’s the front and back of the same quilt. It’s gorgeous both sides!

I suppose this could have gone in the DIY thread but.... I built a desk to slot into the bay window.

I got the wood from a local reclaimed timber place for about 100 bucks.

I'm pleased with how it fits into the bay nicely and matches the other furniture reasonably well. Some of the imperfections (like the bit I cut wrong and still managed to use) feel like they give it character and will be a friendly reminder to me to measure twice, cut once, next time.

A few of the edges are a bit scratty but I'll use a little bit of beading to hide that. For my first try at anything that wasn't flatpack, I'm quite happy.

Looks good! I made a small shelving unit to store a load of 7" singles and the sides were constructed like the top you've made. One thing I did was run a Stanley knife along the outside 'tongue' and snapped it off with pliers. I was going to bead the edge but it looked ok so left it :D

Or seeing as the imperfections give it character, as you say, making it art. Making it perfectly is manufacturing. You're an artist.

Ahh yes, Lady T did ask me to remove that bit as a finishing touch, but she also asked me to 'finish the bloody desk soon so the kids can start using it for their crap'.

I didn't think of a knife and pliers, that sounds like it would probably be simple to do - thanks for the tip.

I understand some folks here can make brilliant tables and heirloom quilts, but have you ever stuck bits of felt and woogly eyes to a hard boiled egg to make a dinosaur* because your child has to take a decorated (real) egg into school the next day? We choose this decoration because the term topic is dinosaurs.

*steg(g)osaurus.
