I may only have posted three scores, but I can assure you there have been more than three credits used.

Lots more.

No, I meant three games as in three out of the five in the challenge, hence winning the title early like Munich. I haven't done the maths yet, but I suspect you're uncatchable.

Ah, I see.

Next week I'm working away from home, so probably won't have much time to play Flying Shark, and then Space Harrier could go badly wrong for me.

With one point difference per place, it only needs one bad game for me to be overtaken.

Now if we had F1 style scoring I'd be feeling more confident.

Its a *proper* arcade game where it's possible to improve the more you play, unlike a lot of today's coin feeders.

Was it ever converted to the 8 bits? Chinny reckon no!

Only the SG1000, if Wikipedia is to be believed.

I don't think this is working correctly. Some of the current and potential figures are off.

This is just from a first 20 minute blast, I expect to be submitting better before the deadline.

Zaphod was showing 27 points after two rounds. He's now showing the same after posting three scores.

27 points seems about right (and he's showing 40 potential, not 27).

Dont worry about it right now - but there have only been 2 games so far so I should be on 17

9 for week 1 / 8 for week 2

I think you've just got the crossover point wrong on your calculations - its midnight Sunday (and for the first week there were some 'early' posts)

My 'potential' for Flicky should be 8 which means the main score should show me as 17 and the potential should be 25

I'm rather cross at this as I was doing quite well and then for no reason MAME ditched me back into Windows but with the game still running resulting in a lost life. When I got back into the game it seemed to be running at a faster speed which again made it harder. No idea what was happening.

Rather soured it all as I was on a decent run after hitting brick walls.

It's safe from me, for sure. The cats become total pains in the arse about 6 stages in, and I'm too hung over too put in much effort... :p

Flying Shark's ass is mine.

Sleepless night, so I got up early and had a quick go on this. Too knackered to make it very far! I love how quickly this throws the kitchen sink at you, though. I don't remember Flying Shark being as hard as Raiden, but its early stages certainly seem to have more teeth...

I remember playing this cooperatively so very many times when I was in primary school.

On the spectrum though.

End of stage 3 thinks you've played quite enough, sir. Really wants you dead. Managed to get to st4, though. It gives extends fairly generously.

The only scoring tips I have thus far are:
1) Shoot everything.
2) Collect bombs / don't bomb.
3) Don't die.

I don't think I'm going to beat that score.

It's one of those games where once you lose a life and all the associated power ups you are basically screwed - chances of you lasting much longer are very slim indeed.

Yeah, all I can suggest is tapping the shot button like a madman until you have 3 or more power-ups. Then you have some decent stopping power and can concentrate on dodging stuff for a while!

Ed: also, an obvious tip, but try to memorise the levels. A lot of the nastier attacks made by groups of enemies trying to pin you into a corner (e.g. the row of tanks at the end of st3) can be totally avoided if you know where they're going to come from...

Ed: be aware that the middle part of the big ship in st3 can't be destroyed until it has left the bottom of the screen and come back up again. Don't waste your bombs trying to kill it quickly!

I can't even get within an order of magnitude of YOG on this.

I'm not risking permanent RSI until someone else posts a more human score.

I'll get a more normal one tonight - expect me to get somewhere between about 150,000 mark

I got a score at lunch time but I couldn't read what it was because the screen was distorted. I'll try again later this week but I'm not hopeful.

I used to be good at Shoot em ups but it's seems that I'm not anymore.

I was thinking someone would have a problem with that. How about allowing autofire on this one? If you set the delay to, say, 5 or 6, you can get a very humanly-possible firing rate without knackering your hands...

That's Satan talking there, YOG, pull yourself together - autofire must not be allowed. It's a level playing field and you managed that score fair and square. For the rest of us it's 40K and a week in hospital :DD

I'm on 230000-ish I think.
Autofire isn't needed, it's just remembering the patterns at a few critical moments as Yog says.

It's not for me, but you can definitely do just as well on a keyboard. The best 'western' DoDonPachi player I've seen plays with one, IIRC...

D'oh!

I was having a great game with perfect rounds 1 and 2, including getting a 1up, then died after the first shot on round 3 and couldn't recover!

Still, I had a better go next time.
