I remember when Davpaz was an annoying twat to be avoided. I may have even had him on ignore. Then he became an excellent poster and then later on got voted in as a mod.

There's a lesson there somewhere. Probably that my memory is faulty or something.

His behaviour in the Far Cry 3 thread was just atrocious. He carefully avoids "abuse" of course, so he can claim the part of the victim when people finally have enough and lash out. It's classic trolling and designed purely for tearing this forum apart. Why this isn't enough to deserve a ban I'll just never understand.

It's attention seeking. As an experiment I decided to ignore him in the Mac thread when he was demanding attention.

In under 2 and a half hours he had followed up his own post trying to goad me into responding to him. All because I hadn't responded in two and a half hours (the time it takes to cook some dinner, watch some TV and play a quick game of Halo).

A perfect illustration of the problem. Simply has to be the centre of attention and if he can't get attention he just shouts louder. Classic forum troll.

Completely this.

I had my say when this cropped up three months ago. The new actual ignore system works for me and if it doesn't for others you've got the choice to go back to the old system in your user settings. Problem is that all I see is other people being wound up by it. It seems that being confronted with his disruptive behaviour three months ago wasn't enough for him to moderate his behaviour.

It's quite odd that the people who have brought up that the constant thread wrecking being a problem are being painted as some kind of unpleasant, childish, ranting, bullying misanthropes. Why not confront problems when they affect you? Or we'll just bottle this stuff up again and ignore it until everyone drifts away again. The Get Along Gang in action.

The worst part is that so far he is getting exactly what he wants: Attention, and people leaving.

I don't think AE does want people to leave or to tear this forum apart.

I think he is slightly on the Autistic spectrum, and having a son with a similar condition, All I can see is someone who doesn't realise he is rubbing people up the wrong way!

And from comments, he's not rubbing everyone up the wrong way.

Their are 3 things you can do, just ignore stuff you don't like (this is what I do, there are threads I don't have any interest in, and I ignore them), use the old ignore option, or use the new ignore option.

This is the reason I think the people attacking AE are in the wrong!

Oh just take a look at yourself Chinny.

You jumped on my back in the Mac thread for no good reason. My advice was CORRECT and it was EXACTLY THE SAME as your advice (I wrote my post at the same time as you), my advice was REITERATED by several other people, and NO ONE has contradicted my advice.

However, you still saw fit to comment 'is this guy retarded?' in that thread, and then followed it up with 'proceeds to carry on anyway like a retarded child who WON'T SHUT THE FUCK UP' in this thread and continued from there with:

1) viewtopic.php?p=746715#p746715

2) viewtopic.php?p=746716#p746716

3) viewtopic.php?p=746748#p746748

4) viewtopic.php?p=746802#p746802

posts on the same subject.

I on the other hand followed up in the Mac thread with one more polite post asking for an answer, and a final post not really addressed to anyone about starting a poll, which was clearly a response to the poll that had been started by then.

You can dress up your 'experiment' however you see fit, but the fact remains that you became rude and abusive towards someone who was (a) genuinely trying to help and (b) giving exactly the right advice to the person asking the question, and you did it with far more 'attention seeking' posts than I made.

Can't we just ban the dull cunt? Please?

Locking the thread won't make any difference. Just gives him another victory in his trolling. He'll just carry on in every other thread.

What difference will that make? The argument's been going on for ages & keeps being suppressed. It's about time it ran it's course.

If not dealt with everyone will spend the next 3 months treading on eggshells and noticing people are missing, and then it will all kick off again. It has to be sorted here and now. Why should the forum be held to ransom by a serial offender who will in all certainty not modify his behaviour? Haven't we been here before?

As you say, we're here every few months. I honestly believed the super ignore function would've ended it. I'm amazed AE remains so apparently confused as to what it is he's doing that is pissing people off when it was pretty explicitly explained when the new ignore function was implemented.

Yes WTB I would have thought the super ignore would have ended it and it is hardly AEs fault that it hasn't.

Of course I knew it wouldn't because that was all about people airing their irrational views about AE and nothing about getting a solution.

I understand the words on the screen, I just don't see what I'm doing that's so terrible compared to how some other people behave on here.

In the last thirty minutes we've had Chinny call me a 'dull cunt' and Dimrill calling me a 'rampaging cunt', this is just absolute plain base abuse and is far more against the rules of BEEX than anything I'm coming out with - and this is before you even start on the fact that this thread was basically created with the intention of giving people a sounding board to drive a single member out of the place.

Quote:
This is a friendly community that encourages intellectual debate, discussion and freedom of speech. Personal attacks and trolling will not be tolerated.

That post has your name against it WTB - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25

Look at the output of some members over the last couple of days and tell me, honestly, objectively, who's falling foul of those rules? If I am, then they sure as hell are too.

I don't disagree. But there's a well documented reason for their behaviour. They're fucking sick of you!

As I've said before, it's regrettable that people are resorting to calling you names, because it gives you fuel to play the victim, which draws attention away from the simple fact that you continually make posts that for want of a better explanation, I'm just going to start to refer to as troll posts.

How do you think I feel about them WTB? And yet I don't feel the need to resort to that kind of behaviour.

I don't appreciate how I'm basically being tossed around as an 'it' or a 'non-person' in this debate, who should be chucked overboard because folks like Meaty have decided to flounce.

You're dealing with another human being here, you do realise that, yes?

I do realise that, yes. But you're either the most sophisticated troll I've ever encountered, or you're completely unaware of what you're doing. Either way, NUMEROUS people have left because of you, people I loved talking to, people I've known for years, and I don't think that's fair.

I'm going to do the political compass thing because I've been asked to, and that will be my last post on this forum - for real this time - and irrespective of how many emails or whatever else I might or might not get to come back for the nth time. It's not going to happen.

I'm going to do the political compass thing because I've been asked to, and that will be my last post on this forum - for real this time - and irrespective of how many emails or whatever else I might or might not get to come back for the nth time. It's not going to happen.

Cavey

What happened there?

The same as ever. Can't blame the forum for Caveys on/off approach to posting. Was the same on WoS.

Will do Cavey, it's a damn shame to see you throw in the towel here, but I fully understand you doing so.

A few of the old guard are still around at FF (12 years online and counting :D) so failing everything else we can always be found there :)

I'll drop you a PM anyway though, and I'm on Facebook if you do that kind of dreadful modern thing?

Eh? Are you being strangely sarcastic/ironic or did you not actually read Cavey's post?
