Eurogamer go into some detail about why the Pro is a worthy upgrade even if you don't have a 4K TV:

If I used my PS4 anywhere near what I used to, I’d be tempted. As it is I’m not even sure I’ll get a PS5/Xbox Two at all.

Certainly it's possibly not the best time to upgrade if you're considering a PS5 (or don't care at all). After the fucking bullshit hassle I've had with PC gaming recently I still like the reliability of console gaming so I'll definitely be getting a PS5; possibly even day one in order to maximise the price I could sell my Pro for.

It’s always about the games for me. I cancelled my PS4 preorder when I realised there was nothing I wanted to play on day one.

I’ve gravitated towards PC and Switch gaming now, partly because of the setup I have but also because my base PS4 has become suboptimal for a lot of new releases. Also I can’t see myself being able to spend £400+ on a games console in the foreseeable future.

For sure, but that's why I might go PS5 day one this time because backwards compatibility means I can just carry on working through my existing backlog on the new machine; whereas last time you were making an actual choice to cut off the last gen. And other platforms notwithstanding Sony have the most compelling exclusives so even if I did have a massively capable PC I'd still want a Sony console for yer God of Wars and whatnot. The Switch has very few exclusives I'm really interested in, playing it on the move isn't a compelling use case for me and it would be madness to play cross-platform stuff on it so I'm probably never going to bother with one of those. And I'm genuinely struggling to imagine a world where I'd ever give a fuck about the Xbox again.

Oh yeah, I read that before and promptly forgot. Looks promising. Still don’t know if it’s for me anymore, but it does sound good.

Wow.

I finally got The Last Of Us remastered today. It's been what? A decade ? Since it came out on PS3?

I've never played a game before that's made me tear up within the first ten minutes. Played it all day until my controller went flat. What an astounding game.

I finally have a reason to cherish my PS4.

Ah seems I'm confusing it with the launch of the PS3.

Played it for 10 hours straight. What a stunning game. I'm almost glad I waited now.

It's definitely up there with the all time best isn't it? It's just so amazingly written it just draws you in immediately.

Pro-tip: the DLC episode is very slightly more story than game but so, so, so worth it. It's a prequel and so very much more powerful once you've finished the actual game.

I saw that yeah. Says not to play until you've done the main story first.

It started getting a good chunk harder at around 1am so I've called time on it until tomorrow. That bloater was a right cunt, then we got t boned by humans and there's some tough gun battles going on now.

Will pick up again tomorrow.

IIRC I put it down to easy skill level to negate my shitness with a pad, and also so I could just enjoy the experience, because if we're honest about it the gunplay and combat aren't exactly earth-shattering.

Yeah it's on easiest and I'm still finding it tough but not insurmountable. I still prefer the layout of the Xbox controller though.

Another 2D Dark Souls?

But this one has graphics that look like Moonstone on the Amiga, for some reason!?

Was looking at PS4 for here at mum's. £199 used on game. Nearly stumped for one, then looked on eBay. Got a 500gb pro for £165 with 4 games and a weird looking controller. I don't like used controllers any way so I'll get a new one.

Happy. I can run TLOU at 4k now and bring my white unit here :)

Wasn't a pro. Good thing my mate has good eyes. Got a refund then found a refurbished pro on Amazon for £269. Not bad but still dear. Ended up going on the seller's website and it was £245 but had a £20 first order discount so £225 certified refurb.

That'll do. Damn game making me want to play it at 4k mumble grumble.

PRO TIP - play at 1080P/60FPS on the Pro for any game that has the option. Nearly all 4K games are checkerboarded and/or not true 4K, and even then the framerate gets janky, the GPU in the Pro just isn't up to it basically, but 1080P/60FPS is a lovely match for it.

Fair do. That's good actually as it means I can keep it in the living room rather than the bedroom.

I know it's a little under powered compared with the 1x but man the games on it still look awesome to me.

I'll probably bring the white one to mum's then that'll be good for winter.

Got it today, yay. Condition is excellent the only thing missing is the outer box skin. Remote is almost perfect and nothing a £2 wrap won't fix. I've set it up and logged in but no games argh. This is annoying as I have the new Mortal Kombat at home not even opened but yeah that's at home.

Ordered Fallout 4 for £4 and am downloading the Hitman demo now. That should give it a workout.

Very happy. It's very chunky and looks great.

Guys. Does a PS4 have cloud saves? I set my pro up yesterday and it asked if I wanted it to be my main PS4. I said yes. However I noticed it had a backup function where I guess you connect the PS4s together. Is this how you transfer your saves? I want to play it on the pro now but don't want to have to do it all again.

Cloud saves are part of the PS+ sub so if you're not paying for that then it'll be local only and you'd need to move save data manually between consoles using a USB stick or whatever.

Worked a treat. Swapped out the PS4 and installed my new BT Smart Hub 2 yesterday.

It didn't fit where the white one was by about 2mm. There was room to the left though.

I played The Last Of Us all day again yesterday. It's not short I know that. I've set it to run 1800p super sample and it looks nicer. Not overly different but the jagged edges on distant objects has gone and it's a good solid FPS too and I can feel the difference there.

So a resounding win.

You can play PS4 games on a BT Router now? You'd think they'd be making a bigger deal of that.

Haha. It's been sat for two weeks in its box. After spending about a week doing the cabling I was loathe to mess with it so I did it all at the same time.

It was a PITA, so I was right about that lol.

I’m playing Blasphemous.

It’s like that other 2D Dark Souls but not as janky! Yay! Also, I’m liking it because it’s fucking mental. Within 10 minutes you’ve killed your first boss and you’ve filled your metal hat with it’s blood and now you’re wearing it about like a fuckin psychopath.

It’s like playing Dark Souls but instead of the Euro-Gothic setting instead you’re playing inside the album cover of some sort of German rock/metal band. It’s all angels and devils and church words that you’ve never heard of.

Currently quite happy with it. And it’s quite hard and a bit frustrating too. Mind you, some of the animations are cool.

It’s not for everyone though, I can see that right off the bat, and if you’re looking for a normal platforming game you’re better off looking elsewhere.

Still isn’t going to be as good as Salt & Sanctuary neither.
