I am in the same situation. Going to look at offers I think.

My father in law has recently re-discovered his old iPod Mini which has a ton of music on it he bought through iTunes. He has zero memory of his iTunes account details.

Anyone had any joy getting music off an iPod and onto a PC? I found something called icopybot but have no idea if it's dodgy or not. Any thoughts welcome.

My understanding was that the music is on the file system of the iPod and viewable as normal when connecting to a PC but that the folder system and actual file names were essentially obfuscated so you couldn't know what something was just by looking. The ID3 tags are kept intact though so if you import them into a PC app that deals in ID3 then you can organise and play them back that way. If not then there's bound to be something that will rename and reorganise based on the tags.

I had a similar situation and did this and it seemed to work, though some of my audiobook chapters refugees to play in the proper order afterwards.

The iOS11 update ‘files’ thing. I’m so (easily) confused.

Let’s say I’ve got a PDF that I am annotating. I’ve got it open in my iPad and adding annotation. Can I save that to the files and then open it with the annotations in my phone to keep annotating it? Do I have to save it in a difficult place?

Not used this but just had a look..

When I opened it I was presented with my Cloud storage (OneDrive and ICloud)

I opened up a PDF from Onedrive and used the pen to make some lines on it to test :)

I then clicked done and the changes were not saved

So I tried again then I found a save button and was offered to save the file on my Iphone (which didn't work) or my ICloud drive.

I saved it to ICloud and this time when I opened the file from there the changes were saved. I then added some more lines and just clicked done and these 2nd changes saved also

So looks like if you use ICloud for saving then it will work, not sure why I can't save to the phone, its a work one so has some management profiles on and may be blocked dure to this.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve just tried that and it seems to be working, which will be a big help for me so I can pick up work from where I left off on my iPad and continue wherever. Cheers!! X

Unlikely at this point. The demand just isn’t there given the trend for huge phablets.

Which is a shame as I think the Mini is the perfect form factor for me, but I don't think there's enough of a jump from the Mini 2 to 4 to justify an upgrade.

My current phone is an 8 Plus.

Tonight I wiped and reset an Ipad Air 2, once it had finished the wipe and had arrived at the "Hello Screen" I was invited to bring my iPhone closer...!?

So I did and the newly wiped Ipad took settings from my phone and set its self up.

I was required to take a picture of a graphic the Ipad showed with my phone, enter my iPhone lock code and finally enter my Apple ID password on the Ipad.

Wasn't 100% hands-free but a big improvement.

I got bored of waiting for a new iPad mini, and ordered one of the 2018 iPads.
Going from an A7 to A10 processor with twice the RAM means it feels a hell of a lot snappier, and I can still get quite a good price for a 128GB mini on eBay.

The only problem is that it seems quite hard to find a third party Smart Cover that doesn't have a rear case as well, and I'm not sure I can bring myself to pay £39 for the genuine item. They used to be plentiful when I last had a full size tablet.

Most of the smart cases can be used with or without the rear cases as the fronts hold on with magic magnets.

Depends what you mean by normalised. The mass market device Apple announced yesterday is the £749 iPhone XR; that’s the one that’s gonna sell. Hats normal. And it’s almost the equal of last year’s £1000 iPhone X, too. The more expensive models are for rich folks and nerds.

It does raise the question of whether an X or XR is the better buy at the same price.

Do you mean a preowned or discounted old stock X? Because Apple discontinued the X yesterday. The range now is XR - XS - XS Max.

The XR is 95% if the phone for 75% the price. I’m not saying it’s cheap, but I do think it’s comparatively good value and I think it’ll sell very well.

Author:  ApplePieOfDestiny [ Thu Sep 13, 2018 19:10 ]
Post subject:  Re: The Apple Thread

I actually think having the XR in colour, but not the premium models could be a misstep by Apple. I can well imagine a lot of people who are swung by the colour options over the OLED option, and going to thre cheaper phone. I think it’s highly unlikely that the cost difference plus Apple standard margin on the screen is genuinely representative of the price difference.

Also it’s unusual that the Max has no additional features other than larger screen and battery. Previously the Plus has ‘other stuff’ to recommend it over the standard model (generally camera based).

I wonder if they'll introduce a new SE, using the basic design of the 8 but with all the new features and upgrades specs of the X (or XR). For I dunno $500-600.

I’ve seen a few “new” X for sale for around £7-750. Some might be of suspect provenance, but there’s bound to be legit ones available too.

To be honest, I think I like the colours on the XR anyway, but it’s another option.

In a shop in the US earlier, where a friend was checking out the new iPhones. "Is the X worth it?" She asked. "Weeeell," he said, "$1,000 is too much for a phone". That poor salesman.

He did qualify it by saying if you could afford it, then it was excellent. So he covered both bases nicely.

£50 to get a newer generation of phone? That's a no-brainer surely. Well assuming you don't need the 128GB of space, but I assume you wouldn't even be considering it if you did.
