I don't like the vanilla bases. I use the lipped style ones such as: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30mm-Round-S ... 1658843957 . For dread-size upwards I use https://fenrisgames.com/ who are lovely and awesome and give me sweeties in each order.

Can't blame them, GW's prices are becoming unsustainable. Just read that their older kits are increasing in price by 12.5% on average to bring them in line with their extortionate new kit prices. If Forgeworld follow suit.. man. A drug addiction would be cheaper.

Post subject:  Re: Tabletop wargaming - nerdlinging to the max...

Wait... The old kits that have had their set-up costs paid a long time ago and they're increasing prices? Fuck GW.

Post subject:  Re: Tabletop wargaming - nerdlinging to the max...

Yep. It was either last year or the one before that saw prices hiked by almost 20%, too. As for Forgeworld, look at the price of Sanguinus. Without the big lump of resin that's his proper base, he's £80! I paid £45 for Angron and Fulgrim when they came out and thought that was heavy. And they don't even do free shipping.

Terrain building continues:

First up is a crashed Hornet, which, frankly, seemed to be the only sensible thing to do with this crappy Airfix kit. It will get a base and some piled up earth around it and various bits of broken plane scattered around - the intention is a plane that's come down after the pilot ejecting at the last minute and it becomes the "Capture the flag" objective:

I'm also working on a building site. Not the best angle to see the building, but it shows off the muddy water. Some of the ground will get grassed, obviously. I've scratch built a skip to go with it, which I need to photograph as well as I'm rather proud of it.

Now £84. Because 80 was just too damn cheap for a single model.

No-one buys the transfers, and the few people that do constantly ring FW customer services (which is two rather harried-looking blokes) and yell at them because they're really expensive. They're probably trying to kill sales so they can pull the range with a good excuse, then start selling you chapter-marked tank doors for £28 instead.

TBH FW is exactly as much of a ramshackle operation as it seems, much of the time. I got a proper bollocking for calling their office 'the Forge World Shed' in a newsletter once, as it was a bit too close to the bone.

At least they're physical items that can be sold (often for more) down the line. But these price hikes are scandalous.

S'a pity. I was really enjoying the "new" Gee Dubs with their focus on communication and kits that people were asking for. As the vaunted philosopher Paula Abdul once said, two steps forward two steps back.

Yesterday afternoon, my mates and I watched as a bloke came into the games shop with a deliveroo sized box. He popped it on the table and opened it on the facing side. There were three magnetised shelves, holding his Warhammer 40k chaos space marine army. He faffed about a bit and then his mate turned up with a similar box.he opened it and pulled out a giant robot bristling with guns. It must have been ten inches high and beautifully painted. He then produced another three.

I can imagine the discussion:

"A giant gun robot is 500 army points, you have 1500 army points left. What else?"
"Three more"

It wasn't clear who won but i saw one removed from play a bit later on and another facing the wrong way
